David Hale is not a good option just more dead wood.

We'll need some experience & mature bodies to add to our depth if we want to really climb the ladder over the next 2 years, whether they be a charman to call on if PJ & Spencer are gone, or a Hale type, whilst Fitzpatrick & Gawn build on their frames.

The competition for spots will push the kids to raise their standards. And when they need to be spelled, their is a mature temp, to step up, that doesn't cost an early draft pick.

I hereby dub this "The Michael Newton Rule".

Looking at the AFL-CBA there are only references to minimum salaries and senior match payments for rookies. Unless the AFL have a policy which restricts this somehow (which you'd think would be unlawful) I don't see why the club couldn't negotiate an acceptable deal with Newton and keep him on the RL. The only thing I was unsure about was whether he could stay on there which it seems he can.

Not that its a total surprise, but there is now confirmation Miller will definitely be delisted at year's end.

From TheAge today: Demons development coach Brad Gotch, who is also coach of the Scorpions, said yesterday that Miller was not in Melbourne's plans for next season but was a chance for a farewell match against North Melbourne - after 133 games with the club. "Hopefully, another AFL club might look at him but if not I'm not sure what he's going to do," Gotch said.

That now confirms 3 open spots on the list)

- JMcDonald (spot opened by Green replacing him on the veterans list)

- Brad Miller

- Plus we all know Daniel Bell is a certain delisting

With McKenzie and possibly Spenser being upgraded to the senior list, the only question is how many picks we want to use.

Assuming 3 draft picks will be used (around pick 14, 35, 53ish), we therefore need to delist 1 or 2 more players.

Options include McNamara and Maric, or we may even lose a player to GC17 (Bruce? Warnock?)

This mornings Age has a report from Brad Gotch of Casey regarding Miller.

Looks like his last game with the Dees this weekend.

P.S. Just noticed the List Management thread - sorry.

After taking into account that this years draft is a seriously comprised one

and listening to Cam Schwab last night I think we will only make the min. number of draft picks

Which I think is three!

We have a lot of picks from the previous couple of years that have not had a run due to injury etc.

e.g.Sam Blease.

I think 2011 will be about seeing which of the current crop of untried players can cut it at AFL level.

So a couple of players we all assume will go e.g. PJ may stay on the list for another year.

Paper today says that 'several clubs', including the Gold Coast, are expressing interest in Miller:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/brad-green-wins-keith-bluey-truscott-gong/story-e6frf9jf-1225913539920

I'd be very surprised if that's true.

same here, MFC would not have delisted him if GC were interested.

We haven't delisted him, we told him we won't be offering him a new contract. If GC offer him a contract presumably we'll get compensation. Otherwise they'll have to draft him which they could do. If there's interest from more than one club we could trade him.

This leaves us with 7 unsigned.....

Warnock, Bruce, Jones, Johnson, Moloney, Blease, McNamara.

and go....

Blease and Maloney i have no doubt will sign. Johnson and McNamara i feel will either be delisted (with the chance of being re-drafted, if nothing better comes along) or being re-rookied. Jones, Bruce and Warnock are very likely to continue in everyones trade talks and speculation, more so Warnock and Jones!

This draft is so strong and deep, I don't think we can afford to not at least use our 2nd round draft pick.

I think PJ and McNamara have to go, with Tommy Mac a very good chance to be rookied if he hasn't been taken by the GC.

Im hearing the interchange rule of 3 interchange and 1 sub player will definetly come in next year. This makes it very hard to pick a second ruckman on each team for a game week. I think PJ is gone. We need a player that is a big target up forward that can contribute and pinch hit in the ruck to give Jamar a rest. Surely Stef Martin and Fitzpatrick are options we already have here??

With Max Gawn and Jake Spencer as depth players just at the moment?

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
