I was reading a history of the MGC and discovered that there has always been a morgue at the ground, and by the way it has been used. Does anyone know where it was located or have any other stories to tell about it?

Ask any Collingwood supporter

some answers from my family all incorrect:

was it built for the 56 games, Billy Grahams tour in 59 or was it after the 58 grand final?

Little known fact: The MCG was built on top of an ancient Indian burial ground.

really, can you prove this, is the morgue mentioned in your history files?

Er . . . no. You got me. It was a joke.

It was built pre olympic games era.... '56.

Only because all the times we BURIED Collingwood.

Probably in the dead centre of the ground.

Pretty sure there is a morgue in the Southern Stand. I had the unfortunate experience of watching a lady have a heart attack at a Melbourne/Geelong game once. Pretty sure there's a facility to cater for this situation.

That would not suprise me. A Ground the size of the MCG, if at full capacity the odds of someone dying is reasnoably high.

I was at the 2006 GF and people around me nearly exploded in that last Quarter!!

I hope we bury a lot more Colliwobbles in the not too far distance.

Cant deny / confirm being a morgue at the "G" The US troops used the ground during the war, maybe they set up a temp morgue.

There used to be one where 'Fed Square' is located.

The site of Federation Square has had a variety of

former uses. The Gas and Fuel Buildings, Jolimont

Yard and the Princes Bridge railway station were the

immediate predecessors, though in the nineteenth

century there was a morgue on the site. The result

of an international design competition held in 1997

that received 177 entries, Federation Square was

designed by Don Bates and Peter Davidson of Lab

Architecture Studio.

Hoping that doesnt confuse matters.

There is/was an actual magpie buried in the centre of the MCG. Can't remember who, but i read it in the Red Fox, than an MFC player buried a magpie in the centre square after we defeated Collingwood in one of our Premierships.

Thats a bit poor.... cant remember who the magpie was?

Probably the one with a leg missing (most do)

So therefore was on its last leg(s) anyway

There's heaps flying around, maybe one of its mates has a long memory LOL

Noel McMahen nearly buried Lou Richards at he 'G' (Lou took a dive)

There is a funny story on that incident.

I emailed the MCC to qualify, this was the response:

"The club used to have a morgue next to the Bay 6 administration office in the old Olympic stand. The morgue however was not deemed necessary in the new development and therefore is no longer in existence."

Ewww. I'm glad they didn't. You really have a way with words.

I think the morgue is near the the tunnel between the olymic and southern stands. My mate who works there told me this a fair few years ago!

Thanks for your work Tricky, that solves the riddle.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
