Which player would you personally prefer over the other if given the choice now ? And why ?

Imagine. You're in the school yard in your halcyon days. You have first pick. It's between the two. Which one ?

Furthermore do you think this might help decide in your mind, who might be the better player between the two overall ?

i like Ablett he is a great player and likes to stay private. Judd is good but the team depend on him too much. Ablett helps the other players jell together (chapman, bartel, selwood)

Ablett is better and can be used up forward more effectively.

Also makes his teammates better more than Judd.

Judd, he's now twice gone to ordinary clubs (West coast & Carlton) and helped get them into the finals and in West Coast's case helped them win it. Gets harder balls then Ablett and he does it with nowhere near as much support as what Ablett gets.

Ablett's always been with a pretty succesful club (almost always in the finals) and mightn't be as effective in a weaker team.

The question is not clear enough. Right now I would take Ablett coz Judd is past his best... but if they were both at their absolute career best I would probably take Judd.

i believe ablett is better.

i dont think god(judd) is as good as what he use to be

judd has stepped up time and again this season. he blitzed Junior in the last quarter against us. won them the game. just as good as he used to be.

Does it have to be Judd and Ablett or can it be Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson because if its the latter I cant decide.

These are my halcyon days after all!

That is what it is based on..."now"

Judds ability to win the contested ball seems better, but I believe that more due to he has too and ablett can let Bartel, Selwood etc do it.

Ablett offers more. Hits targets more often (I think last year and a bit Judds kicking has been ordinary)\

Ablett also splits games open more at the moment.

Judd was at his prime in an elite midfield at West Coast. Ablett is better now, as the midfield he is playing in is superior to Carltons.

Both are superstars, although Judd in his Eagles days was a better player for mine.

No doubt Judd!

Ablett is a gun and surrounded by other guns.

However Judd, as good as he is, gets more out of his team mates!

Geelong would be statistically better if Judd was in a Geelong team rather than Ablett.

Ablett, marginally. That's not to say Judd isn't a superstar in his own right - I believe Carlton would be bottom four without him.

Ablett's influence is also profound from 04-06 I would say that Geelong and Melbourne were about the same - perennial finalists but nowhere near the best.

Geelong's success from 07 onwards IMO mirrors Ablett's transformation from good player with potential to complete superstar.

For mine Ablett has it over Judd in terms of field kicking, goal kicking, defensive pressure and overhead marking.

Both great players. But I'd go for Ablett. Judd's greatness during his heyday at WC is somewhat diluted by having the likes of Kerr, Cousins etc around him essentially doing the same job. Since going to Carlton Judd's just been a standout in an ordinary team but hasn't really had the same influence in raising Carlton's stocks. Ablett looks like an awesome dynamo and IMO it appears many teammates feed off his energy and play above themselves.

Judd was marked as a superstar when he first started playing and appears he peaked at WC. Ablett was a slow starter who seems to get better and better and has been at his peak for 4 seasons now.

Its a not so easy to answer question this. Interesting. Im leaning towards Ablett. But theres no obvious choice. Judd in a team of duds is still a very strong competitor and yet no nealry as effective or a game turner as he once was. Ablett is companioned by a stellar support act and he thrives on it. but if I had to pick one....and qualify it as inclusive to our lineup then Ablett. I think hed just bring more to the game and has a gereater and longer upsid.

I'll stick with Judd. He was a Dees supporter after all!

Without the bias I still say Judd. Geelong's midfield has much more depth than West Coast's when they played off in GF's which is of greater benefit to Ablett.

IMO players like Selwood for example take a fair bit of pressure off by getting in for the hard balls at stoppages where Judd ALWAYS seems to be the one that has to instigate this, especially so at Carlton as they have many more midfielders that play the outside and kick. Ablett certainly wins his share of his OWN ball but he gets a lot of help in this area.

There have been a few games this year (V Melbourne for one) where Judd has taken Carlton to victory, I think it was in Adelaide his first game back after suspension and he took that side to another level.

If Ablett goes to Gold Coast I'm not so sure he could do this. There is some suggestion here that Judd is past is best, he does seem to get agitated more often, simply because of what I outlined above. I see that similar to a big CHF like Brereton & Carey, his body has taken a heap of punishment and some of that is taking a toll.

Both champions, for mine Judd is a superstar.

Ablett because he is (slightly) more consistent, but i think Judd is more capable of smashing 10 possesions in 10 minutes or less, and turning hes team around. Perhaps its because of the teams he plays in, but i rate Judd Better in that area

*BUMP*

I'm not entirely sure why some people think the captain of Carlton, Chris Judd is no longer playing at his best. In fact, I'm certain Judd is playing just as influential footy today as he was when at West Coast Eagles. I certainly don't believe he has lost any speed.

Can some who have communicated this view in this thread, please explain why you think he is past his best ?

Tonights stats v Essendon: -

Possessions: 28 (14 Kicks, 14 Handballs)

Marks: 3

Tackles: 5

Contested Possessions: 12

Uncontested Possessions: 13

Centre Clearances: 6

Inside 50's: 7

Goals: 1

Behinds: 0

Disposal Efficiency: 75%

Very good numbers. Quite rightly featured as nearly BOG along with Garlett. Certainly instrumental and his running to make contests was first class.

Right now? Ablett. Over the journey? Judd.

OP specifies right now, and the way they play ATM I would go for Ablett. It's not just that he is a great player, but I think more of him as a person. He's much more the sort I'd want around the club than Judd.
