Just a heads up, dean bailey will be on the couch tonight with gerard and mike and james. Great timing. Green, watts and Wona goal assits on the menu. Also a good comparison with Geelong and the pies in the way we are scoring.

He might crack a smile tonight, good timing.

Shame I don't have Foxtel. Instead I'll watch Garry Lyon rave about Melbourne's performance yesterday

Dean Bailey was all class. He had high praise for Bennell -Bailey's BOG on the weekend.

I really rate this bloke. He understands the importance of building trust and rapport with his players and, in general, in creating a great club culture.

He had high praise for the run and chase of the players at the moment. Seems to be a good bond between the players and coaching staff.

Said that at Essendon and Port, the football department had fun. They trusted one another because the coaches were open about themselves too. Predictably high praise for Jimmy and his influence around the club - in all facets.

Didn't otherwise talk about individual players (other than Jamie - also Watts will be an extremely good player and is getting better with each game).

He said the speed of players and speed of ball movement was incredibly important in the modern game, and the current list is developing really well in these aspects.

My take out

The sun and the moon have literally collided for this club. We now have the holy trinity: Stynes, Schwab and Bailey.

We are going to win a premiership soon. I'm absolutely convinced of that. And Bailey will have had a MASSIVE contribution to that.

Dean Bailey was all class. He had high praise for Bennell -Bailey's BOG on the weekend.

He didn't say Bennell was his best on ground, he said that Bennell's chase with 4 seconds left in the game, was probably his favourite highlight from the match.

Posted

Stand corrected - he did not say the words 'best on ground'. Rather, Bennell's last quarter effort was his 'highlight' of the game - however it was his highlight, not in isolation, but in the context of the game that Bennell played over 120 mins.

He also singled out Frawley, Garland and Bartram as illustrations of speed in rebounding out of defence being one of our great strengths.

He's a class act no doubt.

Posted

I agree, Bennell's dashing run and kick to the square in the first seconds of the the game set the tone for how the game was going to be played out.

Posted

Yeah he said the most pleasing was Bennells run at the very start of the game and continued until the last 4 seconds of the game.

Yes, that was Bailey's point -- Jamie's efforts from the first few seconds of the game right through to the last few seconds. Clearly, Bailey was pleased to note that the same guy who was giving his all at the start was still giving everything with the siren just seconds away, and a big victory already in the bag. I read that as him implying that was the type of effort that will see the MFC continue to repeat Sunday's effort on a more regular basis.

I remember being hungover after my birthday on the 16th of Feb 2008. In my defiance i made the trip down to Geelong to see the first game of the Dean Bailey era and the start of a new season. After 2 hot dogs a bucket of chips and a powerade to get my brain functioning again (i would like to thank the Skilled Stadium snack vans for that) I sat down with my mum and dad to watch the start of a new season.

What a shocking game. No structure, no cohesion, players were trying to implement the game plan yet didn't know what to do. Players in the clear would slow down and wait for a teammate to handball to. Players that should have kicked instead handballed and vice versa. I came away after that match thinking what the hell was this guy doing.

After Sundays match it is clear what Bailey is trying to do and i applaud him for sticking to his guns when it comes to his style of play he wants, weeding out the players that aren't capaple of playing it, finding the talent to implement it and training the players to execute with continual improvement every week.

As Vince Lombardi put it..."Run to Daylight!"

We are taking risks, playing the corridor and the general public are starting to get on board.

Exciting times all round.

Great work Bails...so far.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
