Dees to get 5 Rising Star Nominations

Scully, Trengove, Gysberts are all nominated.

McKenzie is well overdue and one would think the McKenzie is a shoe in for a nomination this week.

Watts is also one good game away from a nomination and looks ready for a "breakout game". You would think he gets nominated before years end.

Would 5 nominations in one season be a record?

hardingham from essendon is too old,

its a 2 horse race between jarrad grant and jordie, and i have a vibe they will give it to grant, as the doggies are the love side of the week with the media.. also they have come out recently and whinged about the lack of love for gran 20 disposals and 4 goals will be enough i reckon..

the love for jordie is aplenty around melbourne though, flying under the radar nicely

Grant of the Bulldogs might be a chance if he's of the right age.

Sweet. Thanks for that info.

Jordie will go close this week for sure.

Answering the OP. 5 IS the record, currently held by the Bombers, and I think maybe one other side.

My tip is Jarrad Grant this week. Stiff not to be nominated the last few weeks and will surely have that rectified this week.

Yes, the Bulldogs voiced their displeasure last week. I'm sure AA will do the right thing for the Pups.

Remember Jurrah (21 and only player 9 matches at the start of this year) is still eligable as well. Also the way Bail has played in a few games he is an outside chance as well.

I don't think Jurrah is eligible. Re: Age.

"To qualify for the NAB AFL Rising Star nomination, a player must be under 21 years of age as at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season."

Would this mean 21 or just 20 years of age?

If 20 years of age - my bad!

He turns 22 in September. Too old.

I look forward to next year for the RS. Watts should still be able to take it by then, and we'll have Blease, Tapscott, Gysberts, Straus, maybe Fitzpatrick and Gawn depending on their pre-season work. We could have a record breaking year for our nominations.

OK, so Watts will be out of contention by then. I thought it was more than just 10 games. Still, the rest of them are good chances. Add to that whoever we pick up in the draft this year and it could be fun.

It'll be Grant.

It's more of a popularity contest unless somebody does a Tom Scully and racks up 39 touches

Hard to se Jordie not getting his Nom, if not this week it will come.

One week at a time just showed an incredible stat. We have 17 rising star nominated players currently on our list, with more to come you`d think. Great stat!

My fav part was when Quartermain asked Darcy and Walls how many flags we'd win in the next decade and they both said "one" in a manner that suggested they had to restrain themselves from saying more.

I'm still grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Tappy is a shoe in for me. Assuming his body stays ok, he has the build to make an immediate impact. And if he does, goodbye Maric.

Yes, when you see Tapscott play at Casey he has class written all over him. It would be surprising if he didn't debut this year and make an immediate impact like Gysberts did in his first couple of games.

Bleeze though is more problematic. He is still playing in Casey 2s and his form is ok but by no means dominant. It is likely he is still carrying a legacy of his previous injury. I wouldn't expect him to make an impact until next year after a solid pre-season. Who does he replace though? At the moment I would put three or four others in front of him for a call up.

I agree Tapscott looks great and looking forward to seeing him. Maric was ok on Sunday. Certainly showed a bit and adds a bit of depth. Maric, Bail & Bartram are 3 that really helped that result on Sunday. Just more good signs IMO

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
