so they bloody should. ruined my dreamteam aspirations last week.

Yeah at the time i wondered about the ramifications of that move.

Fair enough really- we name 3 emergencies a late replacement should have to come from them.

Not a massive deal really, it had to be expected by the club. They would have known the penalties, and thought having Warnock play was worth it. Turns out it probably wasnt!

Bit steep though

It's funny. Someone goes on TV and abuses an umpire or an official or even another player, and they essentially get a slap on the wrist. Being an abusive homophobic these days gets you a petty fine. But a late change in a football game only really affects the opposition, and is their having to rush around to change their line-up really worth $15,000? What a crock.

Sheesh! 15k!! Bit harsh, especially seeing Simon Black copped only 2k for going off at King Andrew's precious umpires...

Better get that AAMI Stadium shop open and stock it with lifesize Jack Watts punching bags real quick, from what I hear around here there's a bunch of Melbourne "supporters" who would scoop them up!

AAMI Park.

You had me wondering for a moment what the Crows had to do with this...

Wrong. its a practice that undermines the game itself. If one club could do it then all would play ducks and drakes with their sides to create unfair advantage that I am sure the football public would hate.

If there werent stiff rules barring this practice why would you bother with team selection on Thursdays at all. While MFC did nothing untoward, the practice is one that should be penalised.

It's $10,000 for this offence plus another $5000 suspended from 2008 for doing the same thing (IIRC that was Round 2 vs the Dogs when Jace Bode was a late inclusion when he wasn't an emergency).

It might be steep but it's such a stupid thing to do; we deserve it.

I am sure the Club were well aware of the situation when they did it. Frawley had a late back spasm and they made an unauthorised replacement.

You cant have team putting players in and out of the 22 that are not named emergencies.

The AFL are right to fine for this midemeanour and MFC gots its fair whack under the AFL rules.

Move on.

Bloody stupid move on the clubs part in my opinion. Cheney could well have done as good a job as Warnock and deserved his opportunity. DB said matchups, matchups, matchups. A load of poo if you ask me. I went to the Casey game and Kyle did not look to happy when he arrived at qtr time. We had to play one man short until half-way through the 2nd qtr. I give credit to the kid he played a great game when he came on.

Wasted $5k going to Geelong (Cale Morton said that he would have rather slept in his own bed and was amused by it all), now another 15k and who knows how much for the Tiwi Island goodwill trip. I don't wish to be a spoilt sport but the club has rung me twice in recent weeks for money which I am normally glad to give. It's hard enough for the club to balance its budget without looking like millionaires to the media and I'm sure some supporters.

It just gets up my goat when we are still trying to finance debt and then throw money away because the damn emergencies don't matchup. Very unprofessional if you ask me.

I can really understand Cheney being frustrated now. To be named as an emergency in the backline, then get overlooked because you're essentially not tall enough to cover the guy that got injured would just suck. I think the club saying that we didn't have an appropriate replacement is a weak argument. We had another defender who could've filled in the gap and his name is Cheney. It would have meant only having Rivers and Garland as tall defenders but that's the luck of the draw.

Hawthorn did the same thing in Tassie to North.

Renouf withdrew after the final teams were announced (ie after the 90mins rule) and Kaylor Thomson came in.

Brad Scott was ropable, Hawks were let off though. Agree, stupid to do it, but surely one size should fit all when it comes to something like this.

Maybe they received a suspended fine?

We did in 2008 but I didn't know about it until today.

Or you could look at it this way - The club appears pretty determined to foster mateship and unity amongst the playing group. Spending a night in Geelong instead of having all the players, coaches and officials drive back and forth to Geelong seems a pretty cheap and effective way to help achieve this. With regard to Warnock, he was the obvious choice to replace Frawley in the side. It's unfortunate but the club would be seen as complete amateurs if they played Cheney to save the money. Correct decision in my book.

point well made theo. May have crossed minds within the FD at quarter time last week whilst the team was down 5 goals and $15k.

Unprofessional by the club. Clearly Warnock should have been listed as an emergency, irrespective of whether Frawley's ailment came out of the blue. "Emergencies" are emergencies for a reason.

Disagree. We look like amateurs now for forgetting to put Warnock in the emergencies.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
