I thought Scully's kicking on Saturday was brilliant, despite the conditions.

He hit some great pin-point passes.

I think we underestimate how nervous these kids might feel early on, so I'll reserve my judgement on Gysbert's kicking.

Yes he did. He is reputed to be a very good kick. He is finding his feet and getting used to the speed of the game. I think he will learn very quickly. Smart player this kid.

Come on Jaded, his kicking was far from brilliant. It has not been brilliant all year. He did have a few good kicks but many of them, to use a golfing term were high fades. He got under them and they just lobbed forward without any penetration.

Don't beat around the bush, both he and Gysberts need to work on their kicking which they will I am sure. Exciting players though, don't get me wrong

why not? it is a clearly flawed kicking style but the good thing is that if he is an inside player he won't need to kick as much as an outside reciever.

There is a reason why James Strauss is one of the most exciting talents on our list, foot skills. He has them. At the moment we only really have Davey as our man that we can trust the ball with. in time, I think James will be this person. unlike anyone else

Gysberts will be a handy inside player that we crave for but he will still need to kick the footy, and it's important that he does. He might need some fine tuning, I'm not so sure of your opinion that it is "clearly" flawed though, Freak. He looks to me to be most capable at kicking the footy and can only improve.

Elaborate some more. What is your concern. Is it Gysbert's dropping of the ball too high from he's boot ? The angle he drops it at ? or how he holds the ball ?

Davey's out on the full kick was the first terrible kick I have ever seen him do. Yes he can be a little too cute with his precision kicks through the middle at times, (the extremely creative one's), but Davey does not need to fine tune his kicking, I mean come on? No player in the game will ever have 100 % execution and effectiveness every time.

My concern about Gysberts' kicking is his action/technique. He almost does a 'bruce' if you will. Rather than guiding the ball to the boot with one hand, it seems he

drops it a bit early, giving the ball a bit too much time in the air before hitting the boot. Have a look in some of the replays. He gets away with it when going for a short chip to a target 15 meters away. But when he is on the run or is kicking 30 + meters to a player on the lead, it looks as though he struggles a bit. Not saying that it is unfixable and as I said in a previous post it's fantastic to see that he can accumulate so much of the ball. Let's just hope he can improve it over time and not become another Bruce !!

We don't have enough damaging kickers in our team. Tapscott looks to be one. Davey, Green and Strauss. Not enough IMO.

I think you're asking a bit too much of them. Even when Gysberts got 27 touches on Saturday and 26 the week before, and Scully's consistently 20 plus.

They're inside midfielders anyway, they're not going to kick that much.

THat's what everyone said about Bate in his first year and people are still on is back about his kicking. It is cause for concern. The fact that they are inside midfielders is no excuse. Lenny Hayes and Sam Mitchell are both beautiful kicks. Gysberts will have to fix it at some point.

FFS. A fair assessment of a player is not moaning. I highlighted the positives and negatives of his game.

P.S.

Players don't learn how to become elite kicks once they play AFL. They can improve. Luke Hodge was an

elite kick before he was drafted.

Gysberts' will never have a Luke Hodge kick but it should improve with the correct coaching. Hopefully it will.

Happy to be wrong on this occasion. I'd imagine the crew on "Lionland" would have a thread right now pretty dark that their boy missed out again. He got more possessions, with more contested and at better disposal efficiency in both of the last 2 weeks than Gys while playing in a win and a 1 point loss. I reckon if that was our boy we'd be ropeable.

Interesting note from the AFL article, I hadn't realised that Gys & Blease were at school together. They've played footy together most of their lives. I like it.

Me too. If there was anyone who was stiff, it was Rockliff. (No pun intended). Happy for Gys' nomination all the same. Back-to-back solid games may have swayed the biro to tick the Gys' box.

That's the thing though. Rockliff had back-to-back better games than Gysberts.

I'm obviously not complaining, but Rockliff was certainly very stiff to miss out.

Scully, Blease and Watts all played Vic Metro together are a quite a close bunch....

Add Gyzza to this who played U/14 - Present with Blease and who went to school together....

I do like all these combinations, I think it will definately be benefical down the track
