Jurrah update

Was at the Junction oval today watching Jurrah, Strauss, and Spencer going through a few drills. I couldn't help but notice LJ moving so freely, leading and marking over his head at full pace. I asked how far away he Is and was told he's ahead of schedule, maybe playing 2's In a couple of weeks.

Saw him in Darwin and thought he was carrying a little around the midrift.

I thought that today also. He looked good sprinting in bursts but was struggling trying to keep up with the others when he had to run more than 50 meters. Id say he'll need a few weeks at Casey before we see him line up for the Dees. Would be great If he could be back for QB but I don't think he'll make it.

this is fantastic news. you would think he's fitness should be ok as he would have been walking/jogging almost straight away he would be close too full training without contact. By the sounds of things i am really hoping for queens birthday but when his ready his ready can't wait.

Good news but we need to make sure he is right before he plays

No doubt we have missed him in our forward line

l don;t think this is right and might need to temper that expectation unfortunately/give him time to work his way back to full fitness - With serious shoulder injuries you often aren't allowed to even walk/jog for 4-6 weeks at all, as it can create undesired movement post operation.

I'd be pumped just to see him running and kicking again. If in 4 weeks he's playing at Casey, he could be used in the seniors. Watt's played a half last week pretty much and was useful. Jurrah could be used in the same way (though not simultaneously)... and I reckon come the end of the year we'll be getting a steep climb in Watts' fitness as he's being forced to stay on the ground. And if we don't? Jurrah is a sensational like-for-like replacement.

If you can get 2-3 goals a game out of him, that will go a long way to keeping us in the finals race.

Liam would have done no running for weeks after that injury. You cannot run with a dislocated shoulder. The running gait would put constant movement on the shoulder joint.

He would have done very little apart from maybe leg weights in the gym.

I'd be pumped just to see him running and kicking again. If in 4 weeks he's playing at Sandy, he could be used in the seniors.

If in 4 weeks he's playing at Sandy, WTF is he doing on St. Kilda's list all of a sudden?

FYI - Casey is now our VFL affiliate.

Before everyone gets excited, Mfc have made it clear that all the players must earn selection.

Possible timeline (speculative) for return:

Round 10 Geelong - NA

Round 11 Carlton - NA - maybe return in 2nds ? (June 5)

Round 12 Collingwood - in Casey 2nds/seniors ?(June 14)

mid year break - could play in Casey seniors again. (June ~19/20)

Round 13 Adelaide - in Casey seniors ? (June 27)

Round 14 St.Kilda - in Casey seniors ? (July 4)

Round 15 Essendon - I'd say (speculative guesstimate) this might be when Jurrah returns. At the G. Possibly the St.Kilda game a week earlier at Etihad if things have gone well.

Before everyone gets excited etc

Too late for that. But really I'll just be happy to see him at some point this year, moving freely and terrorising backlines.

Well worked out- I think the club will be very conservative with him. We do not want him to break down

That seems about the best we can hope for HT. We must always remember that we want Jurrah as a key part of our forward line for 2011, 2012 and 2013 when we win the flag. Rushing him back now would be exceedingly shortsighted.

As long as we get a look at the future forwards some time this season I'll be happy. Watts, Jurrah, Bate, Bennell and Wona in at the same time will be enough to frighten any team in the competition. Whether it's Green, Miller, Morton or Martin in there with them is open for debate, but it's looking good.

Posted

I'm in No rush to see him back too soon. I want to see him play his great skills... But NOT before his Shoulder is Back to FULL Strength.

Get strong JapalJarri.

The way I see it, we keep ourselves 'thereabouts' for the bulk of the season and then aim to finish off with four in a row to storm into the finals with the full team sorted out, back together and with several weeks of match fitness behind them.

We finish with

Richmond,

Hawthorn

Port (aami)

North Melbourne

It is do-able. Hell, we could be knocking three other teams out of our way in the last three rounds.

That is how I see the fairytale, anyway.

This timeline is way off. LJ is still 4-5 weeks. That would see him potentially playing a half for Casey 2s when we're playing StK. Then this schedule gets going. I'd be hoping to see him back around Rnd 19.

Sorry to ruin the party.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
