news a moment ago, but the record (expected to possibly be broken on the weekend with the cats v pies match) was back in 1958 when Melb played Collingwood.

Just interesting stat i thought. That's all.

I remember at the Hawks v Geelong GF in 2008 there were almost 101K there.

Something like 100,821.

They missed the grand final figure in 1956 when Bluey Adams and Des Healey collided. Melb V C'wood. 116,000. There were people spilling over the fence behind the boundary line and even some got up onto the roof of the Great Southern stand. About 25 metres up. Great view if you didn't fall. Thanks for getting those facts. Is that still an Olympic record?

Rest easy we'll still be part of the Home and Away attendance record. They will not have more than 96,000 tonight. In fact, I doubt they will break 93,000.

Regardless, it will be an absolute cracker to watch as a neutral observer. Two great combatants. MCG at it's finest.

Officially, the capacity of the Melbourne Cricket Ground is 100,018!

At the 2008 grand final there were 100,012 so "officially" another 6 people could have attended.

As for the all time record of 120.000+ set at the 1970 GF: unless the MCG is rebuilt or they throw out current health and safety regulations this will never be beaten.

And I doubt the 99K+ home and away record will be beaten! Although all records are up for grabs - aren't they!!!

Maybe when the Dee's are a powerhouse again!
