I dearly hope he doesn't play nxt week for the young lads sake....as the media will have a field day and un fairly compare him n nic (overrated mophead)naitanui....rather i hope he returns the week after against port in darwin to ease him gently back in the side n then get him ready to burst onto the scene and tear the filth apart on queens bday!

Go dees

1. What makes you think he'd be worse than NicNat if he did play?

2. He's picked at CHF for Casey this afternoon. It's up to him whether or not he does well enough to get a place next week.

Fair call. We have to get him playing soon. But it's a tough one. We can win the next two against the WEagles and Port, so do you want to put him in the side? And like the Melbourne staff have said, "We are taking our time with Watts". The pies are going to be much harder to beat than Round 2.

They also discussed whether it would be better to play him in AFL and make him want to apply himself in the other areas or leave him at Casey until he strings a couple of good games together. I think it was Gerard who said that he had played golf with some Melbourne people and he said that there skeletal issues - his weight mass not keeping up with his growth. There are obviously issues there that we are not privy to and I hate all the talk about Jack Watts in the media every time a Melburne official is interviewed. What pressure will he be under when he finally does play this year.

Yes, I thought it was all pretty ordinary. There were numerous suggestions of what was wrong and none of it unsubstantiated, but much of it passed off as fact.

I've had enough of the speculation as well.

Kicked 4 at Casey today, seems he had a great game - including a contested mark + goal from outside 50, and a one-hander running back with the flight.

Get him in the team!

yes,,,we are playing west coast next week...i'm sure playing in the same game as nic nat would put some fire in his belly.

Yeah, if he has shown the form I'd back the kid.

NB I don't really care how many goals he has kicked or contested marks he has taken - it's the effort, the intensity & the adherence to the team rules I'd be looking at.

I don't want him in the team next week. He kicked 4 today, and I'm extremely pleased, but leave him at casey, at CHF, and let him do it again. And again. Let him develop at his own pace, don't try and speed it up by throwing him into the big leagues every time he kicks a few against a crap team. He'll come in later in the season, and I'm looking forward to it.

Went out to Casey to see him play today. I think we need to change the name of this thread to MR Jack Watts. He could have chased a little harder on his fourth efforts, but otherwise I was very impressed. 4 goals 2 and a few assists is a pretty fair return. On that one-hander, he not only took it against two opponents, he also brushed them off, ran to the goalsquare, stepped around another opponent and kicked it from point blank. On another day he might have had 6 straight, as the two he missed were gettable and not far off going through.

Cheers, as to playing him next week, i dont really mind.

Imo the main problem is finding a spot!

I also headed down to Casey for my first ever Casey game, I was very impressed with some of the Melbourne boys.

Jack Watts played well today, 4.2 and one of the behinds shaved the post. He is probably about 3-4 games away from the 22 for the MFC.

FYI - He is far from being a 'dud footballer'... Newton = Dud Footballer.

This was part of my review in the Casey v Coburg thread.

But I figure that this part may be relevant here for people who do not look at the Casey stuff....

Jack Watts - I just want to start this by saying one thing.... That Jack Watts thread is ridiculous and anyone who has bagged him, considered he won't make it, said we should have picked NicNat etc.... I just wanna say STFU. Now, he was really good today, kicked 4 goals and gave off 2. Thats 6 scores he was a major part in. Sadly missed 2 set shots that were pretty difficult, could have been 6 today. He has soooooooooooo much time with the ball. Makes smart decisions and has quick hands. Loved it today, almost everytime he got the ball he did something positive with it. His one handed mark, play on, side step, run 5 metres, side step, snap, goal... was awesome! There was 1 moment when he ran up field to the midfield, the ball was bouncing in the air and he was waiting for it to come down, he looked up, he looked behind him for about 0.2 of a second, picked up the ball and immediately side stepped the player who was about to mow him down. The time and awareness in that situation to know exactly who will hit him was priceless and my fav moment of the day. I am still in love with Jack Watts haha.

I've got nothing to add really just wanted to point out that we're one week closer to realising a little fantasy that pops into my head at various inappropriate times at work. It's all very simple really. It involves Scully exploding through the middle of the MCG and hitting Jack Watts lace out. The hum of excitement that follows will be our way of saying to the footballing world that the last major piece of the jigsaw is in place and we're ready to explode!

... thats before a vicious tackle laid down by McKenzie which forced the turnover and then picked up by Scully ;)

I was also at the Casey game today with my mate who's a St. Kilda supporter. In my mates own words "He was best on ground by a mile, why isn't he playing?". He looked very classy and a very good set shot at goal, I must have missed one of his goals as I only noticed the 3.2, but I'll take everyone elses word for it, could have been when I was getting a hot dog?

His goal after the one handed mark gave me a nice warm feeling inside and soothed the pain of last night on it's own.

His recovery is amazing also, in the final quarter there was an instance when at half forward where he and a Coburg player went up for and mark and fell to the ground and the ball spilt behind them. Watts bounced up and grabbed it in one hand and took off while his opponent was still getting up off the ground. Then kicked a left hand pass into the pocket to I think it was Miller who didn't mark it, but got the free kick. Needless to say Miller let him down with the conversion.

Watts will play this year if he continues this form no doubt, wouldn't be suprised if it's as early as next week.

Any word on the Blease injury from anyone yet?

I heard he had some shin soreness in the first quarter, though that would't generally keep you out of the last three quarters.

Luke Tapscott told me today he hoped to start running this week.

Great news there. Luke would be itching to get out there with his mate Trengove and the rest of the red & blue.

Getting back to Watts, I'll throw in another thing that comes to mind. Two actually.

When he tried something and failed, he got angry. Like pounding a fist into the ground angry. He expects a lot of himself.

He kept on leading. Had a passage where he led out from the goalsquare, and was ignored. The kick went to the boundary at around the 50-60m mark. He turned and led again at that player, was again ignored and then when the ball turned over was involved in tackling the opposition. Yes, both leads were into space and looked like pretty good options. He was screaming for the ball but the guys just didn't look in his direction.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
