Rising Star Nomination

I think one of our young guns could be a chance for a nom this week. Tom Scully was probably the best of the 3 today but Jordie McKenzie and Jack Trengove both played well and have been better so far this year.

All 3 were fantastic at winning their own ball today, Jordie and Jack had 9 contested possies and Tom had 8. Jordie kept up his status as Junior junior with another 8 tackles this week and Tommy had 5 clearances. Exciting times ahead.

I'd like to see Jordie rewarded for a fantastic start to the year. He's been consistently good each week and has stamped himself in our best 22 atm from the rookie list. He'd be top 5 in the league for tackles and after 2 rounds he was top 15 mids in the comp by dreamteam points.

Rohan Bail deserves a mention here as well, don't think he's in the mix this week but I'm incredibly impressed by his disposal and his run, he's definitely been the surprise packet of the year so far for me.

So which of our boys do you hope to see nominated this week?

Nik Nat? 13 disposals, 1 mark, 1 goal? If that's what it takes to get the nod then the standards have really dropped. And especially not when he was overlooked for his 20 contested possession game.

He's gonna get one eventually. May as well get it out of the way early..

I think it's what he does with his touches that impresses. I'd be interested in his hitouts to advantage stats cause I'd be surprised if they weren't already very good, and his mobility for his size particularly down below his knees is freakish. I concede that he wouldn't be as hyped as he is if he didn't have the novelty factor going, but you can see why he gets crowds coming through the gates.

Until today I thought Hanneberry from the Sydney had It sewn up, but after today's match i think it's between him, Scully and McKenzie.

I'd give it to Scully, but I think they'll give it to the swan.

If they hadn't already given it to him in round 2.

NicNat is a sure thing. A good performance in a winning team on a Friday night, combined with being the overall favourite for the award, combined with good performances in all his other games. He's got it locked up.

Well, Scully performed better in a winning team and has had good results for the past three matches also. The only issue for him could be the public profile if NicNat.

NicNat for sure this week but we have some great rising stars within the club and dont need an award or nomination too proove what everyone can already see. IMO Rowan Bail was very impressive again in his 3rd game, can't wait too see Tapscott and Blease!

Did they? Missed that one.

NicNat may be the most eye-catching young player, but it doesn't make him the best.

If Scully gets 30 possessions every game for the rest of the season he could take it. I wouldn't put it past him.

NicNat will get it because there's so much hype about it. But Scully, Trengove and McKenzie have been in the running every week, where as NicNat has been inconsistent, so from that point of view NicNat shouldn't get it.

Interesting that Richmond tagged Scully with Cochin in the 4th quarter. Waste of a good player but shows other sides are taking notice of major Tom.

They also took him out early in the 4th and gave away the free. Scully was knocked to the ground after disposing the ball. He was hurt but didn't show it. Got up (richmond forgot to put someone on the mark) and ran thru the centre to deliver a pass to Duun who goaled.

This kid is something special.

Get used to that.

NicNat will go down as one of the most over-hyped players ever. The way the coaches box for the Toast has been behaving has lowered them in my eyes.

If they don't get it this week it'll be the week after or the week after that - these kids are too good to ignore.

Todd Banfield from the lions is a goer too, he might receive the nod

I watch a lot of footy and I reckon he's the best young player this year by an absolute street.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
