How did Watts go in the end?

Watts played on the wing all night. Did some real classy things. Worked into the game very well. It was the first time I have seen him up close this year; he is a real lump of a lad. He was quite instumental in Casey getting back into the game in the third quarter and getting on top in the last. He will be much improved by the run.

Read somewhere Bailey wants to see 3 good games from Watts for Casey before playing him...not sure if true. Personally would like to see him in the squad against Richmond, playing against a younger team where he'll find it easier to hold his own, and hopefully raise his confidence with a win if we can manage it.

Martin started forward, went back, then finished forward. McNamara played back, I didn't think he was best for Casey.

Miller forward, no good.

Maric foward, kicked a nice goal but was ordinary.

Watts was good but doubt he will play for the demons next week.

Firstly, a great first up win for coach Brad Gotch. The Scorps are slow starters and they nearly kicked themselves out of the game in the first half. After half time however, they were the dominant side albeit forced to play catch up football and, in the end, they caught up in the nick of time.

Stef Martin was the team's tall forward playing deep and he could easily have kicked six but for the fact that he was off target early. His goal just before half time when he baulked an opponent and kicked accurately at last was a gem. I'm still not sure if attack is the place for him - he comes from a basketball background and I'm sure he still has a lot to learn. He may be forced to become a forward because of the lack of places in the team available for him.

Tom McNamara was solid in defence and was close to Casey's best against a quality opponent. He will also suffer from lack of opportunity as Colin Garland and Jared Rivers are both well ahead of him at this stage.

Miller played at CHF and just went. Maric started slowly but was better after half time and kicked a crucial goal.

Jack Watts was in Casey's best playing half forward and wing. He picked up around 20 disposals and was both creative and effective. He is growing and bulking up and should be back in AFL ranks within the next couple of weeks if a place opens up for him.

i drove out to casey last night, neally got lost getting there haha

ill start with martin because he is the first player i noticed for melbourne out there! and how could you not in the first quarter he flew like superman for three massive marks, he didnt hold on to them but looked dangerous and ended up being the main tagert for the night kicking three important goals.

spencer, he looked good with his ruck work, but wow he can move. I saw him several times move like lightinig through the midfield, setting up play, he really is what a modern ruckman is all about.

watts, first quarter played at centre half forward, set up two shots on goal and looked super slick, the rest of the game he mainly played on the ball and wow i have never seen such composure before! he hardly got beaten all night.

Watts kept setting up play, also when he had the ball it didnt matter how hot he was he just looked like he had all the time in the world, twice i seen him easly beat off two geelong players, just dancing around there tackles and finishing off with a nice kick, all night he hit targets, looked really good! although i wish they put him at chf or ff and just left him there.

well they are the main three players i watched guys, but i did see some other nice bits of play from melb players, maric kicked a really nice goal from fifty out near the boundary which was game turning, cheney did some nice skillful bits of play.

overall it was a good game, and what a beautiful ground melb get to train on over summer, this can only be a good thing guys and thanks to the freeway casey is easy to get to

I saw somewhere that Watts had multiple shots on goal and missed. Any truth to this? From the sound of it he was otherwise everything we could have hoped for, but I'd like to know what really went on with his goalkicking.

They probably trying to get some stamia into his game.

By having him roam around he doesnt have to worry about beating a stronger bodied player. In time,this will change, hopefully,he'll be our go to man, up forward.

Why didnt Simpson and Moore play?
