Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Here's how I saw it (whoever i randomly noticed, for better or worse):

Frawley had a shocker, plain and simple. Struggled against LeCras, generally a bad day.

Junior McDonald got a fair bit of the ball, had several clearances which were all long bombs to the forward line... not helpful.

Bennell was really really good early, but dropped of late... like much of the team. Several fast, evasive runs out of the backline. So classy.

Scully got a fair bit of it, some of his kicks were beauties and some struggled. Incredibly fast.

Maric put on some good pressure in the fwd line, just hardly got a kick. Tried hard though. Also fast.

Petterd was very quiet.

Strauss had some smooth disposals, but was put under way too much pressure when kicking in. THERE WAS NO MOVEMENT FROM ANYONE. It was like we were forming our own zone. WTF? This looks like a major weakness of our game at this stage. We just battled to get it out of the back line. If this keeps up, IMO we could ruin Strauss' confidence... how is he meant to get it out of there?

Jamar and Spencer did fairly well against Cox, Nat and some random guy. Spence just battles with disposal though, is a liability at times.

Martin played forward and looked lost, just battled. Where does he fit in? He's not a forward. We don't need another tall back. IMO he should be back-up ruckman, has a great leap and better disposal than Spencer.

Miller presented well at times, but went missing for large stretches.

Cheney struggled, had one great tackle though i think. Bail did a few good things but didn't show a heap.

Trengove didn't get much of the ball, but looked so classy when he did. Always has oodles of time. Played a fair bit in the middle, good to see.

Bate had a few good moments, but was quiet... first hit-out, acceptable.

Hughes hardly got a touch. Not sure about him.

Davey had some trademark runs through the middle, played forward at times... faded later on.

MacNamara.. meh. Played on Hansen I think, didn't do much.

Moloney got fired up and generally played OK... not his best, but when he got going in the third, we looked much more likely.

Jones was very solid, some good grunt as usual.

Warnock.. did well against NikNat in the second, otherwise not a heap.

Dunn played quite well, good chance for Rd 1 now that Sylvia has gone down. Played middle and forward at times.

Just generally...

TOO MUCH HANDBALL.

The Umpires struggled. Inconsistent at best, very frustrating.

We need Watts ASAP as a target around CHF... delivery just breaks down too often.

The set-up for kick ins needs a heap of work. Was our defensive coach on holidays all summer? If Hawthorn play a zone in Round 1, we are no chance whatsoever.

We didn't run out the game. 2 1/2 quarters of passable play, then we struggled. Was it the heat which suited West Coast? Who knows.

Need to eliminate the high bomb out of the centre square. Just gets turned over too often, esp when there's no-one to mark it.

Too many freak injuries... aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh it's annoying.

Great turnout, 5,000ish apparently. Beautiful day for it.

Took 25 minutes to get out of the carpark... needs improving lol.

That is all.

good point regarding a lack of options when kicking from the backline - the same thing has happened to us for years now.. why don't they teach them to create space, make leads, present, run etc etc like in junior football we always were taught this.. melbourne always seem to just stand there. it is very frustrating as a supporter!

why don't they teach them to create space, make leads

I don't know that we can presume that it's not something they're not being taught or working on. From comments in the press and from reported discussions, it seems pretty clear that Bailey and the footy department are aware of the various shortcomings, and do work on them.

This is a side that's low on experience, confidence and a settled line-up, and it shows.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
