James Frawley

I'm with you on this. It really isn't that important.

They update it start of the year and that should be good enough. No need to annoy MFC about updating everytime James Frawley eats a piece of cake.

It is important, to those who are interested enough. And also the misinformation is just another deceit of this modern world.

Competitiveness gone mad.

I'd like to see the AFL take charge of all Height & Weight data at the start of the season.

The clubs don't put accurate information in, as they try to keep it secret most times for a competative advantage.

Even having said all the above, I think Frawley is in certain AA form, but he may not get picked because he is seen as having time on his side and there are a lot of other decent options.

It wouldn't be right, but I can easily see it happening (I mean, come on, KB is on the selection committee!)

That's my feeling too. Why do you think I bumped this three weeks before the season is over?

I think that "time on his side" thing may apply, but only relegate him to the bench.

At the same time, its gonna be hard for them to ignore the stat I read on here the other day, that only two players have kicked 3 goals on him this season. I think Riewoldt and Fev. That's pretty compelling, considering he's actually known for his run and rebound from defence. I would like to see what stats the other defenders have in comparison. Lake's had an amazing year. Scarlett's missed a lot of footy. Grundy has dropped off and is behind Chip now. Who else?

Prediction of the decade.

Can it beat this? Well it's not quite a prediction but you get the idea. http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4475

Frawley......... the most excited I have being about a 1st year player in a long time. For the 10 minutes he played he looked composed, agile, smart and ridiculously fast for a 192cm player. His run down the wing was....... brilliant. If he can have the same attitude in the big stuff then he will eventually be a valuable contributor to our side. His conesting skills were surprisingly good.

Some interesting observations from some learned posters. Frawley was the standout for mine. Good to see I never viewed Warnock as a long term solution.

Nah, I think picking someone such as Chip to be All-Australian after not exactly showing that much signs is harder than saying a first-round pick will be a valuable contributor.

Time on his side WTF? Surely AA selection is for the current years performance. He may do a knee next year and never play again. If he doesn't get a guernsey this year they have no clue. Its like when they place a midfielder in another position because they can't fit him in the midfield.

MASSIVE THANKS TO DAPPA DAN.

After reading this thread i went down and put $50 on young Chip getting AA selection...

Looks money well spent at this stage.

Oh jeez. If the rumours are true, I might have cost you there.

Remember when Pavlich was named at FB because they couldn't squeeze him in anywhere else / were loathe to leave someone else out in favour of an "unworthy" actual FB?

The award is judged by KB, of all people.

Thats my point here AA positions should go to the best player in each position otherwise you might as well pick 22 midfielders and just allocate them positions!

Hey, I didn't say I liked it.

I do kind of get the thinking though. It's kind of like the Oscars. You have to lose one before you win one.

I reckon you're right. If some hack like Jake King has an AA year, he should get the gurnsey ahead of a guy who gets a lot of media. That's not always the way it is though.

Money well spent I say...

I dont think there have been 6 better defenders this year than Chip.

IMO all the AA judges have to look at 1. Chip running down Jetta against Sydney 2. Chip playing on Fev, Brown, Riewolt....

That versatility says he can play KP or off a flank... In saying that they do like to have a couple more mid fielders off the flanks...

Chip is the new Glen Jakovich, combined with Scarlett. He is easily amongst the 6 best defenders, in fact as good as anybody at the moment. Garland is shaping up very well too, now that he's settled back in. And that bloke Bruce that everyone was lambasting a while back - can't kick, can't handball - there's nobody better at stitching up a smaller defender.

I do have to laugh, however, whenever the 'All Australian' team is discussed. I just can't help it. It's the team that doesn't play anybody. And ALL the players are Australian, right! Amazing. It's got the same sort of cachet, if you like, as the 'Hall of Fame', another excruciating idea taken directly from the USA. Ah, those meaningful debates about whether Ablett Snr, Carey and such-like deserve to be in the 'Hall of Fame'!

He's got one thing neither Jakovich or Scarlett have had - the ability to play on little blokes like LeCras or Milne.

Sets him apart from a lot of defenders actually.

In defense of E25, he said in this very thread...

Nope. Just chip.

It might sound stupid, but I'd seen enough in him midway through last year to be 100% confident he'd make AA this year or next.

Most of us backed Chip in.

Greeny was the contentious one.

Yeah. It's all in fun...

If he starts a thread on someone for AA next year and they make it (in a break-out year) then I'd be congratulating him...

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
