I recall watching Juice in a game v North Melbourne and his lack of strength was obvious as he struggled against physically bigger opponents. Good on him for putting in that bit of extra effort in the gym. I hope it pays off and that the extra size also gives him the confidence to turn 2 goal games into 5 and 6 goal games.

Because its been a few months since we've seen this "High Flyer" in action you could almost forgive yourself in thinking maybe there was hope for him. I'll dress up like superman and streak across the mcg queens birthday 2011 if he is actually still on the list.

You might get Wrathchild to dress up as Lois Lane and run across with you if Juice is still around.

I bet me dressed up as Lois Lane would make your "Redleg" stand up on end. If Juice is still on the 2011 list you might want to buy extra Kleenex that week.

If you'd actually watched him play a game this season, you wouldn't be making comments like that. You can say many things about Newton, but his defensive pressure is no longer a deficiency in his game. In fact, it is now one of his strengths...

I really think he's a confidence player, and if he can find some confidence with his goal kicking, then I think he'll prove to be a good target next to Jurrah and Watts...

Agree

It is really unfortunate that Newton maybe one of those that lets the oppurtunity pass him by

Has got to get his mind right to give himself any chance

Time ISNT on his side

I can't deal with it.

He should have been paid out this year so that we could have kept Buckley around for a little longer or used another draft pick.

Yeah, they screwed up.

Let's hope the costs are not that great.

I don't think they will be.

I reckon he's a confidence player. If he had converted his opportunities over the last two seasons, I don't think we would be cursing his 2 year contract. Full forwards are so hard to find - that you've got to give prospects the benefit of the doubt.

If someone could teach him to kick - he's still a chance...but only just!

This may cause laughter from some of you, but I believe that Juice is such a confidence player, that if he could have a day out it could completely change his football future. He doesn't have to kick a 100 a year but rather contribute in a meaningful fashion. That could be a few goals and some assists each week. With the spread of goalkickers we have, he could still be a part of our future, but it is completely up to him.

His bigger frame can only help.

Agree. He's got a year. In that time, either he finds the confidence and becomes something, or he's out the door. I don't see why we're gnashing teeth over him this year.

And I don't see Buckley as having been such an exciting prospect that we need to argue one or the other.

Speaking of Newton, I saw him with Martin at Derby Day today. Newton pretended like he didn't play for Melbourne, obviously because he didn't want the attention, but Martin was pretty happy, advertising that he played for a Melbourne to a few nice girls standing near where we were.

To be fair he doesn't very often.

How exactly do you advertise that you play for Melbourne?

Was he walking around with a mega-phone trying to pick up chicks?

I was with some friends on the grass right near the finish line, and I saw him but wasn't sure if it was him. I just asked if he played for Melbourne and he said no, and I said it was alright, I'm not some deranged fan that really gave a [censored] that he was there (I actually said that lol). It's not that big a deal that he said he didn't play for us - obviously didn't want the attention. But then Martin rocked up and started speaking to the girls that were there and he was happy to advertise that he played for Melbourne. The funny thing is that when they left, the girl turned around to me and said "god! why didn't you pull me away? they just wouldn't leave!" lol

Hoopla -sounds like Juice is your next project. If you get him going you'll be like the Horsewhisperer of MFC.

Despite his bad kicking he still averages over a goal a game at AFL level.

He cops a lot of [censored] from our supporters who don't watch games (He doesn't chase, he's a pea heart etc) but IMO he could be a decent player at AFL level. Remember our forward entries are IIRC the fewest in the comp, if we improve next year like we all hope I think a 40 goal season is a realistic target for Juice.

This is rich. I went to all games at the mcg last year, and i still give him [censored]

and 40 goals? he gets pushed off the ball too much to kick that many

I question his commitment away from the field. I hope he has rectified the issue of his undeveloped upper body, because he certainly hasn't done the work in the gym up to this point.

As for the 40 goals...

Are we to have injuries to Green, Jurrah, and Bate?

He would have to play 20 games at FF in 2010 to kick 40 goals. And why should he have the privilege?

Why not give that to Jurrah (20 goals from 9 games, and a star in the making) or Green (anyone for Carlton in 2000) or Bate (27 goals in 2009 from HFF!).

Lord knows all three would kick more than Newton at FF.

Just for those of us too young to remember this game (ie me) what did Green actually do in this infamous final. I can't even remember Carlton even being in finals.

Green played out of the square and kicked 4 goals. 3 (I think) of which in the 2nd half as we stormed back from 5 goals down in the third to beat the heavily favoured Carlton by 9 points.

He provided a deep lead up target all day and single handed, some say, won us a final in his first year.

(Note: Bruce also played a ripper from memory)

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
