Scully and Trengrove have been locked in at 1 and 2 for weeks now, Butcher is going to Sydney or Port Adelaide, and Ball has no choice really... retire or play for Melbourne... I think he'll chose the latter. :D

I don't expect you to name your source, but can you at least provide some details about why Melbourne expect Butcher to slide to 11, and how we managed to convince Ball that we'd be a good option, just to show you're serious? I'd love to believe you obviously, but it's hard to take you seriously when all you've said is "this is definitely going to happen", without elaborating. You've got to give us something.

i knew this would come. a close friend of mine is on the Melbounrne list and he told me today.

I didnt ask details but melbourne thinks Butcher will slide, and Ball has many options.

Firstly, I don't believe that a listed player would have access to that information, as BP doesn't even tell his own MFC scouts who he's going to take, and secondly, you said that a "contract was close for Ball" and now you say "he has many options", which is contradictory to the first statement - although true.

Well Ball does have many options but im saying that we are very close to signing him.

And i didnt think listed players would know much about the draft, but when i asked him if there was any news that is what he said....you be the judge

I hope Scully, Trengove Butcher Ball doesn't become a regular sentence.

Some of your sharpest there DA.

Cale Morton said recently on MFC.com (I think) that the players keep a close eye on what is going on in the draft. I believe that the player you talked to is simply speculating and mentioning the two prominent names that the whole footy community is discussing. And yes, it has also been discussed that Butcher may slide.

Thanks for sharing your conversation, but I don't believe that it sheds any new light.

Being pedantic....how can you sign him? I can understand the organising of details of a contract. I don't understand how you could sign someone without drafting them first

In this case you can. He agrees to go into PSD and we have first pick and we agree to pick him.

We can even advise the AFL of this and he can get permission to train with us before the PSD.

probably just means he is close to fleshing out the deal we are proposing and, once he's happy with it, nominating in the PSD

and Ball has many options.

re-sign with St Kilda - no, retire - no, enter the ND and risk ending up anywhere in the country - no, this leaves one option and the only realistic option. I claim no insider information but am 99% certain he will be in the red and blue next year.

Sort of interesting but pretty vague and not really anything to get too excited about. Scully and Trengove look like a lock anyway, Butcher sliding is a "maybe" at best and out of our control and the Ball bit just sounds like we are at least having our offer listened to - which while nice - isn't anything concrete.

Dont be suprised if Melbourne take Griffiths over Butcher with pick 11. I think the top two look pretty set but Griffiths looks like he has a lot of up side and can kick the ball a mile. If Port dont take Griffiths at 8 or 9 im sure Melbourne will pounce.

My mother always told me not to count my Balls before they hatched and I've always considered that to be sage advice.

I won't believe the Luke Ball story until I see him in red and blue. I think ATM he would still be even money about Ball remaining a Saint.

It's bizarre how many people think we'd pick Ball if he told us he didn't want to play for us.

Haha.

It's all hearsay, I don't believe there is anything new here.

Butch won't slide to 11,he has far too much upside-great lead, pack mark, huge tank. His kicking will improve at AFL level,if he does nothing but kick all preseason,he'll improve out of sight,he's extremely good at every other part of his game.

He'll never kick like Fev or Lloyd but Rewoldt has struggled for years and improved greatly this year.Look at Richo, struggled his whole career and has still kicked 800+ goals.

Just a shame we won't draft him.I expect him to go 5-8.

except Griffiths is injury prone... might throw them off. don't know how bad though.

Yeah I heard that too. But if he does a couple of full pre seasons he could be something special. Great physique. Big tall and strong. We'll have to wait and see I guess. I think Port might be keen at 8 or 9. Not many talls in this draft by the sounds of it.

Think they are into young Jordan Gysberts aswell ... However, heard from a reliable source Port complained about how the Eastern Rangers kids lacked preparation for their interviews.

You wouldn't hold that against them.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
