Ball's Presentation

Dean Bailey briefly mentioned the club would be prepared to visit Luke Ball in New York whilst he is on holiday to convince him to come to Melbourne.

Greg Denham thought the Demons should, if they really want to convince Ball to join the Dees. I think it might be money well spent. Thoughts ?

Start spreading the news...

If they think it will get him across the line, then why not...

This is how it should go...

Luke Ball, about 10pm on a friday night, has gone for a walk with another St Kilda team mate, to get a slice of pizza. They are walking through Times Square, when James McDonald, Aaron Davey and Dean Bailey suddenly appear.

"Luke, theres something we would like you to watch" James says

Suddenly, one of the HUGE screens that cover the buildings in Times Square goes blank, and the famous you-tube video that everyone loves gets played

Luke says yes, everyone is happy!

that is very good... as long as they dont put a power point pres on the big screen in times Sq.

We should meet him at the top of the Empire State Building on Valentines Day.

It would be too late though...

We're doomed.

Oh, HT, you romantic fool!

We should meet him at the top of the Empire State Building on Valentines Day.

Why don't we just tele-conference from Seattle?

I just got inside info

Dean Bailey will be making a musical plea from out side Ball's hotel window dressed as the Naked Cowboy

As long as we dont have to wait till new years eve to see Ball drop in times sq!

More likely a powerpoint presentation :)

More like they would scribble on a bit of paper with crayons they rolled a kid for cos they spent all out money on tickets to NY :)

Just what we need, another 10k on the Demon Credit Card!!!

He'll be home next week and the drafts are 6 & 8 weeks away.

Sounds like he doesn't want to join us,so i'm not fussed either way,his hearts not in it.We need speed through the midfield,he'll slow us down anyway,i'd rather Scully,Trengove and Grimes in there,if Ball's in there, one of those guys isn't.

Let's draft an 18 yo kid that would be proud to wear the Red & Blue, rather than a 25yo that will only join us because it's his only realistic option and he'll grow to like us.

1.5million in debt. Why dont we fly the whole team to NY! Seems that we spent less effort on trying to recruit Judd (although Carlton always had $$$ plans for Judd)

I am all for getting Luke Ball, but this is ridiculous. What happened to the statements about "him having to want to play for Melbourne". Flying to NY and twisting his arm is hardly him showing he wants to play for us.

There's a fine line between keenness and desperation.

Well we shouldn't be that desperate to get Ball. Keen, yes.

He'd be very handy from a couple of perspectives but no great loss if we don't get him.

It certainly won't be the end of the Demon world as we know it.

What makes you think an 18 year old kid is going to be so 'proud' to wear the Red & Blue??

A collingwood would be over there in a flash to work something out, I don't see why not Melbourne shouldnt be on the front foot. Send 2 over to NY - CC and BP spend $6k and seal it. If you want something bad enough sometimes you have to go and get it.

footy is meant to be about playing with good mates,,

Where has Ball said he doesn't want to join us?? Answer: He hasn't. He's never made mention, nor has his manager Connors about Ball's refusal to play for Melbourne. In fact both have never made public comments about Ball and the MFC.

In the rush that was trade week, he expressed a preference to be traded to Collingwood because they satisfied his 2 requirements. He's never expressed any intention about the MFC. In fact Bailey summed it up pretty well, when he said it best that Luke should take some time to think about his future because he's no doubt had very little time to think about it post the GF.

I'd much rather draft a proven 25yr old contested ball winner, who is one of the best tacklers in the competion and who has the one quality we really need at present with our list - Leadership and experience in the midfield than some 18yr old. I believe if we can secure Ball it will be a massive bonus to the MFC and will do the following:

1) complement and assist in the development of Scully, Trengove, Jones, Grimes, and Blease

2) provide support and free up the pressure and tagging of Davey, Moloney and Sylvia

3) help develop Jetta, Wonaeamirri and Maric to become midfield options.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
