Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Burgoyne meeting with Davey & Bails

I thought it was Hawthorn knocking back pick 9, not Port??

If Port are saying no to pick 9 they will probably lose him for nothing, because nobody will give them much more than that. He may be a good player but at 27 and with a dodgy knee, 9 is a very very good deal.

I think Hawthorn have always been happy to part with pick 9, they are happy with their youth stocks. Pick 9 and a player is pretty good but Port are after pick 9 and a "good" player. 3 players mentioned by Port are Ryan Schoenmakers, Grant Birchall and Jordan Lewis. Understandably they are all required by Hawthorn.

I stand corrected.

Port really are gonna screw themselves in the end. Burgoyne is determined to leave, so take the best offer on the table (which is a fair offer!) and just move on. It's Nick Stevens all over again, which is great for us!

Edit: Port are delusional if they think Hawthorn are giving them Schoenmakers, Birchall or Lewis PLUS pick 9. No wonder the Hawks have backed down a little.

Well, if you believe the papers, Essendon has put Lovett and Pick 10 on the table for Burgoyne. I suppose the difference is that Lovett is already leaving.

Absolutely and this is why I reckon Burgoyne would have to be starting to get jack of it all. The whole world knows that what Hawthorn has offered is quite reasonable given the circumstances so if Port continue down this road then I reckon Burgoyne could say stuff 'em and go in the PSD or ND.

And with all due respect to Lovett, you'd rather Schoenmakers, Birchall and Lewis, who are significantly younger and more promising.

As I said, pick 18 and Jamar allows Port to cover their ruck needs plus they get pick 18. We can also swap third round picks.

But I suspect we're meeting with Burgoyne to try and grab him in the PSD, and not because we're willing to upstage any possible offers to Port.

To be honest I'd rather not spend pick 18 on a 27 year old with a suspect body, but he is an A grade midfielder and he will significantly improve our team next year, taking the best tagger and guiding the likes of Scully, Grimes and Trengove. Could also be another good mentor for Bennell, Jetta, Aussie and LJ, which may explain why Davey is meeting him.

Jaded- as a major topic contributor- may I ask - if we let Jamar go- What about our ruckman- none at this stage as classified as worthwhile -would nearly be classified as the 4 weakest ruckman in the league overall. At least Jamar played well as a ruckman and kicked 5 goals in a match late in the year. Last year was his best performance BY FAR - why let him go?

Another midfielder for our best ruckman- you would be joking- hopefully

The only way Burgoyne is going to Hawthorn will be if a third club is involved in the trade. Hawthorn and Port won't agree to terns so it's time Port start looking at a third party for that additional player they are after.

I think you are right about the PSD option. I think it's the only way SB will get to Melbourne.

Port are keen on Lovett apparently, but you are probably right, especially with relation to those players ages. But Lovett would be an asset in Ports team. Averaged 21 touches a game this year, and was in the top 10 for goal assists as well as being dangerous around the goals himself. They lose Burgoyne, Lovett could step into that midfield role.

This is slighlty off topic, and this is probably where I differ from most on here, Jamar isn't much chop. He is hugely overrated by most on here. Talk of getting pick 9 for him is some of the most fanciful stuff I have ever heard. Whether Port need a ruckman or not, Jamars worth to Melbourne is much greater than his worth to anyone else. If you got a 3rd round pick for him, that would be about it.

I reckon Melbourne want to keep him anyway.

Being the first tagged in the bottom team doesn't sound very enticing to me. Part of the reason why he chose Hawthorn is undoubtedly because he would receive less attention with the likes of Mitchell and Hodge around the packs. Not to mention they could very well win the flag next year.

Burgoyne via the PSD = BEST DEAL FOR MFC....(99.99% of melb supporters agree wit this)

giving up draft picks/players for Burgoyne = 'Not a Good' DEAL FOR MFC

I would be happy to have Burgoyne for his experience but not for his price...if it's players/draft picks...then that's not on.

Aker went to bulldogs as a 27yr old for a second round pick in a normal draft. at that stage Aker only had 3 preimerships and a brownlow...

Burgoyne has 1 premership...and is a little younger...suspect knees...Burgoyne is only worth a first round draft pick..At best.

Burgoyne please come to us via the PSD only...pretty please...

I dare say Burgoyne is meeting with Melbourne just to make the Hawthorn deal look a little better. Basically Burgoyne has positioned himself well enough to give Port the impression that he is happy to go to Melbourne and Port get nothing or he can go to Hawthorn and they'll get Pick 9 & McGlynn. Balls in thier court, I don't think they'll make the same mistake twice. Burgoyne is just forcing thier hand.

Well I don't really rate ruckmen.

I think they're only useful if they contribute around the ground, but that generally all you need is someone able to physical compete in the ruck and a very good midfield. A good ruck won't help a poor midfield, but a good midfield can compensate for a poor ruckman.

Ours are woeful, but Spencer gives me a lot of hope. I'd also rather Martin pinch hitting in the ruck then contributing around the ground, over some giant beanpole who taps the ball then doubles up as a goal post.

I wouldn't trade Jamar for anything, and as has been stated many times already, he is worth to us a lot more than he is worth on the open market. At pick 9 you could not refuse, but at pick 29 you'd sign him on for another 2 years, which is what appears to be happening.

Edit: I'd be [censored] if we traded McLean to gain a 27 year old. It goes against everything we're trying to achieve. Pick 18 is the absolute limit IMO. I'd rather use pick 11 on a tall, which we need more desperately than Burgoyne!

Just heard but not 100% that it is going to be Jamar and pick 11 for Shaun Burgouyne. Just waiting for confirmation.

Hmm perhaps. I was speaking to a key stakeholder at Melbourne over 2 weeks ago and he remained adamant that the only way we were going to get Burgoyne was by offering him a pile of cash to come into the PSD. When I suggested that we trade pick 18 for Shaun, he stressed that we would not be giving that pick up. However that was before Brock came to the club and asked for a trade so maybe things have changed????

Not happy Jan.

Wont go wild as this is just a rumor, but not good on so many levels. This deal would leave us with:

No genuine 1st ruck option.

No opportunity of drafting a serious KPF prospect.

Shaun Burgouyne, no doubt an extremely talented player, but coming in as a mature age recruit under an injury cloud.

As other posters have suggested he will draw good opposition player away from our younger more inexperienced players but at what cost?

More than happy to receive Shaun through the PSD, Pick 11 + Jamar is TOO MUCH !!!

Opps, promised not to get to wound up!

I think you're right, on two counts: Jamar isn't much good (i'd say second rounder), and we want to keep him.

If we were looking to trade him then I would be content with a second rounder, because we desperately need him I say we should set the bar very much higher.

Only just heard it hey?

Obviously not from Peter Rohde who just said that Port have been focusing solely on getting Burgoyne to Hawthorn and haven't even contemplated getting Mark Jamar to Port in any trade.

I will go buy 60 tablets of St john's wort if this happens, or get a prescription for zoloft.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
