2009 Player Review - # 18 Brad Green

Brad Green – A really consistent player when he played. Brad hasn't missed a lot of football in his career but this year, unfortunately, he had a few injuries. He broke his jaw against Richmond in typical Green fashion – going hard at the ball. And then he had a scaphoid injury, which ended his year. Similar to Cameron Bruce, he is a really good leader and his consistency throughout his career has been a highlight – Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au.

Get fit and get at it Brad :) he ought to relish the chance to really play now the 'experimenting' is over :)

Clearly MFC best player

Davey is that.

Green could kick 40 goals in a pocket next year, and I hope he embraces that role because he isn't going to be in the midfield.

Good leader with a few good years left.

May be a Ben Dixon though, if you know what I mean...

definitely has some role in the midfield next year. cannot expect kids to run the show the whole time.

puts head over it, has the body size, and the skills, i dunno why you wouldnt want him helpng the kids out in the midfield.

He can go in there for half an hour every now and then, but we need to put time into Scully, Trengove, Blease, Strauss, Maric, Bennell, Morton, Grimes, and Petterd.

Added to this list are regular mids in the prime - Davey, Moloney, Sylvia, and Jones.

The older players need to realise that they will have to play a periphery role. Macca in a BP, Bruce off a HBF, and Green in at FP.

Besides, if he has a role in a flag tilt it will be as a 32/33 year old Brad Johnson-type FP.

What are people thoughts of Brad's role next year?

With some younger mids coming through i wonder if he will be moved to either end of the ground.

He could return to his sweeping role he played a couple of years ago to free up Grimes and Morton for more midfield time.

Or he could take a place deep in the forward line and return to where he started his career, sort of like Yze in his last couple of seasons.

Brad was never really a midfielder. Well not a really good one.

He's not a damaging kick which is why he should play more in the forward line and utilize his set shot.

The older players best positions are on the flanks which is kind of the reason why we are where we are.

if he had of been left forward he couldve been a very damaging and consistent forward over the years. but then again we already had an undersized player playing tall in the forward line (robbo) and green did play good footy in the middle/off the back flank. i would like to see him used forward more often, especially when we are really looking to win games as his kicking makes him dangerous when forward.

i agree his role in the midfield will become less as younger players come though, and given that he has the versaltility to play at either end of the ground as well as in the guts indicates to me his role will be to play where we need players. if young players like grimes and strauss step up into the midfield, green will play more on either flank. if these younger players do not come through or play most of their footy in the back half then green will be utilised more in the guts.

i would however like to see him swung forward when we need a change up there, or when we need a couple of quick goals, as he can provide that.

He's a great shot for goal, use him of the flank I say. Right now he's in out top two best players. He is in his prime right now, and he has a big part to play in the side during the next 2-3 years. He's not ready to start taking a bit-part role yet. He will be in the thick of it - albeit most likely off a flank or in a pocket more often than in the middle - but he will continue to be one of our most important players. Will bring up his 200 early in 2010 which will be a great milestone for one of our best players. He'll turn 29 at the start of the season, and he's got at least 4 years left in him I'd say.

Disappointing year injury-wise after the 'controversy' this time last year. IMO he has important leadership and 'example setting' roles to play with our young list over the next couple of years. He has proved that he can be a strong contributor both back and forward, as well as (to a lesser extent) in the middle. He will be a very important player for us in the short / medium term, and I expect that he will be used in a variety of positions, as the need arises.

Not knowing where to put Green is proof of how our young list is improving in talent and structure. Green is a quality footballer and offers flexibility but no real positions screams out as his above others. Can see him used through the wings as a midfield rotation or as a Chris Knights type half forward next year.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
