Fantastic news like others have said.

Was worried that he was getting forgotten about.

When out there this year he showed PLENTY and hopefully gets a full pre-season under his belt and really shows something next year.

So many young up and comers on 2 year contracts? Must be the norm? is this a good thing?

In two years time might we be in a bit of strife if all these young guns prove something we may struggle to fit all under salary?

Not sure just a question

Great to see the club signing up the young ones. I think he, given that he has not had a proper pre season as yet, can add both as a small forward or a run in the centre as well. High potential

MELBOURNE forward Addam Maric has re-signed with the club for the next two seasons.

Club list manager Tim Harrington confirmed the 19-year-old had inked a new deal for 2010 and 2011.

"We've just locked in another one with Maric," he told melbournefc.com.au.

"There are a couple [of contracts] still in progress and I'm confident they'll be done, but they're not finalised as yet."

great news, will be interesting to see who else gets signed up before trade week...

Glad to hear that.

Did Maric play only forward as a junior?

Played a fair chunk in the midfield I believe

I haven't got to see much of Maric play, but taking it from the posts here that he did ok?

Also thought worth noting how Harrington mentioned reviewing the squad after trade week. Says to me that Melbourne's going to try get involved in trade week more than normal. Seems like quite a bit will depend on our success there.

Very glad that [censored] has signed on for a few more years. I personally think he will be a star. He has the ability to become a star midfielder in the Ablett mold if his body lets him build up his tank and core strength. His reflexes and disposal skills around the ground (barring his first game this year) have been outstanding. Funnily enough his set shots werent great, despite being the most accurate set shot ever recorded in the under age competition!

Look forward to big things from Maric in a few years time!

I'm also impressed by his decision making.

So far I've noticed he often makes the right choices considering the situation, whether he pulls it off or not.

I think he's an important key to our future, not just a fringe player who might be trade bait if the right deal comes up.

Class act.

Congratulations to Tim Harrington and co. Keep up the good work.

One of the smartest users of the ball at the club and the strongest mark pound for pound.

If Maric hadn't come to the Club with such a big wrap on his efficiency it'd be interesting to see if fans were so adamant about his skills. I don't think he's lived up to that reputation yet, which is fair enough - he's only played a handful of games. However, I think the Champion Data stats from his junior days have framed the discussion.

Anyway, good news that he's signed up but it's a signing you'd expect. Hopefully we can sign up our better players soon.

The percentage of people would not have seen his champion data stats from his junior days. There are a lot of Melbourne suppoters I know who are not demonland freaks (there for wouldn't know about his junior stats) and love the look of Maric. I agree he has not quite lived up to his rep but he has shown footy smarts and good use of the football at afl level.

maric is a player i dont have too many doubts about. he will play 100 games at least, and hopefully will become a 200+ gamer for the club. while he hasnt set the world on fire, he is clearly adjusting to afl pace and to playing in a different team etc this year he was starting to find his feet a bit better before he got injured, and looks a likely type. hasnt got heaps of ti, but generally uses it well, and doesnt seem to be overawed. hopefully will become a very smart afl footballer.

This is fantastic news. after speaking to his junior coaches i'd say maybe 250+ games

You need to play a lot of games early to get to the 250-300 mark, since 250 is 10+ seasons of not missing a game. When you think about it that way, there's a lot of players in the 19-21 year old age bracket who have probably already missed the boat for 250 games, and Maric is probably one of them, as is Grimes.

Cale Morton is on track so far though.

in the history of the mfc, only 6 players have got to 250 games, only 23 have got to 200 games.

if maric gets 200 i'll be stoked. as promising as he is, he is a lnog way off yet.

current players mcdonald 235 (injury free season gets him 250) green has 198 and bruce 203 (might get 250 if they plays 3 seasons more uninjured).

our next most experienced players are miller (127), davey (119) and mclean (94). it is way to early to speculate on anyone else getting 250; brock would have to play 20 games a year until he is 32, davey and miller would have to play until the were 34-35.

jones may be on track (70 games and is not yet 22), bate (68 and 22). morton has 40 and is 19.5, so is probably the best chance as you said nasher.

Yeah i'm a little worried about the short term contracts for all our young players. I guess it gets them passed the gold coast period though which is the major concern at the moment.

Agents wouldn't want their young players signing long term contracts before they've reached their full potential though. They need to be paid what they're worth and Maric will be worth alot more in 2 years i hope.

I dont think we have to be to concerned with a mass exodus in a few years time. History shows that players are usually reluctant to leave the club they were drafted to.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
