Brisbane v Carlton

...

Recommended Posts

carlton are absolutely screwed without fevola. and they have NO depth. take out murphy, gibbs judd and fev and they would get beaten by a LOT of teams.

one advantage of our last few years with all the injuries and experimentation is that we will have fantastic depth going forward - lots of players with talent and experience to cover the odd injury or two.

Great start to the commentary by Quartermain:

"It's been a long time between drinks in September for these two sides."

Haven't Brisbane won 3 flags and appeared in four Grand finals this decade?

Happy for him that he doesn't follow the Dees or the Saints.

It's a bit like last year. People all talking about Hawthorn 'ending their premiership drought with their first flag in 16 years'. Well, there are 16 teams. So on average, you'd hope that each team would win one every 16 years.

Journalists seem to forget about Melbourne, St Kilda and the Bulldogs when making these comments.

Will Judd be required to explain an unprovoked hand/fingers in Riscotelli's eyes when the Lions player was on the ground?

Damn well hope so. But I think the footage is inconclusive. I mean, how lucky is he that another Carlton player's legs obstruct the vision just as he sticks his hand in Rischitelli's face?

The evidence from the other angle is damning. He had no need to have his hand near Judd's face.

On the other hand, Andy Maher singing the Carlton song in the 3rd qyr just typifies the malignant culture at CFC.

Did he really?

Last time I heard a Carlton supporter get that far ahead of themselves was the qualifying final against us in 2000 and we know what happened after 3/4 time that day.

Carlton, we know your chokers!

I acknowledge your point regarding 'premiership droughts' for teams that haven't won a flag in a few years.

However, that's nothing like Quartermain's comment.

Half the teams in the competition play finals each year.

The Dees played in a final in 2006, the Saints last year.

Here's a list of the AFL teams, ordered by year they last played finals:

Adelaide 2008

Collingwood 2008

St Kilda 2008

Sydney 2008

Western Bulldogs 2008

North Melbourne 2008

Geelong 2008

Hawthorn 2008

---------------------------

Fremantle 2007

Port Adelaide 2007

West Coast 2007

Melbourne 2006

Brisbane 2004

Essendon 2004

Carlton 2001

Richmond 2001

Didn't Ratten decide to rest a few players, including Judd and Stevens, after Cloke kicked what I thought was the sealer?
He sure did. The vision immediately went to the box and whilst i am no good at reading lips, he immediately looked to make those moves straight after that goal. Perhaps even close things down.

I had a very enjoyable evening at a Carlton mates house watching the game.

About 5 minutes into the final quarter, he was all 'woohoo, look at us Blues.'

The remainder of the quarter however consisted of him screaming the word 'NO!!' with varying degrees of disbelief and desperation.

Top night out.

On the topic of premature celebrations, my Granddad used to tell the story of being at the 1984 Grand Final and seeing Hawthorn supporters popping champagne corks at 3quarter time. We all know how that ended.

Of course he had no need. But from the footage I've seen, there's no proof that he gouges Rischitelli's eyes. So I reckon he'll get off (undeservedly).

On the other hand, Andy Maher singing the Carlton song in the 3rd qyr just typifies the malignant culture at CFC.

Was Maher on the radio? He wasn't on the TV coverage (it was Mark Howard and Bill McDonald).

I believe so.

Sam Lane was talking about it on 774 on Sunday and how embarrassing it was. It was also mention that section of the Gabba ground infested with Blues supporters could be heard singing Lily of the Laguna in the last quarter. Beautiful.

Their unbridled arrogance remind me of the Carlton supporters I was surrounded by in the QF 2000. Derisive and disrespectful in theier slurring of MFC players (eg weak) and the Club (eg salary cheats). Oh how the wheel turned!

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
