Melbourne supporters cop an unfair beating at times.

I thought the crowd today was excellent! The way in which it felt like we had won the match at the end. I recon about 80-90% of the dees fans waited around to send off the boys, and the fact that the crowd started to sign the song and prompted the speakers to start was fantastic.

I also thought it was a pro-Melbourne crowd which is a good stat to have against the expecting premier team.

Surely that wasn't the case...

We lost yet they played the song 3 times for us! Great atmosphere.

I heard the crowd singing the song in unison prior to the first time the PA system played it. It seemed to start from the cheer squad end of the ground of the ground as far as I could tell.

Great atmosphere at the end of the game. Winners all round.

I also thought it was good that the Saints players stayed on the ground for the guard of honour for our 3 retiring champs.

I was a little embarrassed that St.Kilda won the game and yet our song played three times.

I thought they were great in clapping off the Melbourne retirees.

I thought it showed a tiny bit of MFC arrogance that I haven't seen in my life time. It was good. About time we start to get arrogant! ;)

I don't know about you, but I was celebrating our great victory in gaining picks 1 and 2.

Whether the crowd singing prompted the G to start the song, or whether it was always planned, i can guarantee that we got through one 'Grand Old Flag' before the speakers started playing the tune as well and we all sang along.

I really did have a ball at the game, while 'Milne is a w@nker' was brilliant fun (he just stood there between the goal posts, not moving, looking straight ahead and not looking back), the "ROBBO" chant followed by the "WHEATLEY" chant were memorable, but hearing the stadium erupt in the grand old flag from complete silence, after an 8 goal loss to cheer off our boys was, as Bruce would put it, ssspppeeecciiaalllll

Fantastic effort by the Saints as well... it did take them 15 minutes to even go and celebrate with their cheer squad, and to hang around for the sendoff was great sportsmanship as well.

I expect to see you all at the games just as vocal and passionate next year!

I wasn't disputing the fact that the song was played...

I didn't think you were either. :)

I trust we would have done the same if they were in the same boat.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
