You obviously didn't see Robbo's comments in the Age re comments made on blogs that really do offend players. I think you would be surprised who reads this forum. So maybe we should contain our comments to legitimate arguments and not personal insults. We can all have opinions but keep in mind that some on this forum can be offensive in the extreme and we really don't know who reads what.

Well Said, we are dealing with people here not chattels.

Be Diplomatic please.

I reckon this thread ranks with the DNA test for Scully thread. I'm wondering if I slept a bunch of months and it's April already.

It has been mentioned a few times that Newton is contracted for next season so unless there is some massive off field stuff up or the club pays him out- which is unlikely, he will still be in the red and blue next season.

I think our club has enough integrity to honor contracts so IMO Newton whould given the oppurtunity to prove his worth next year

Doubt it (sacked). We'll see.

Re negativity in general : It's probably worth noting that the Ignore User function is only a few clicks away.

Click on their name. Click View User Profile. Once loaded, in the Options section of the left hand bar, click the Options droplist. Ignore User is first in the list.

Certainly doesn't solve everything but sometimes people don't even know it exists as an option (to consider for pests / sanity / signal2noise / etc purposes).

The good thing is every subsequent post the ignored user makes you get the option to UnIgnore User, so you can review the ignore at any time.

Doubt this is true, but if it is, as many have already said it will be because of off-field issues.

I, like many, don't believe Newton has a future at the club, but it would be just silly and irresponsible of the club to sack him whilst contracted, both $$ wise and in player relations.

I'd much prefer him to be traded for a pick 90 or whatever to another club, which we won't use, to free a spot up, or keep him and pray like nuns that he improves his kicking, decision-making, body-on-body contesting and strength! during the pre-season, and actually offers something next year.

i hope that no one is ever sacked by the club unless they stuff up big time, like has happened in recent times. a contract is a contract, and i think it should be upheld regardless of the line of work.

its not like newton is on much, and with wheelan, wheatley and robbo gone, its not like we are desperate for delistings either. given that newton does have some upside, and extra year on his low pay cannot hurt us that much...

How do you handle a breach of contract deanox where there is non performance of key terms of the contract by one party?

We need at six delistings. We have three delists/retirements.

For all you Newton haters, blame the insane list manager that gave him a 2 year contract at the end of an unproductive 2008.

If anyone deserves the sack it's the.......

Look no one hates Newton but there have been some tasteless and disrespectful posts deleted.

Just for the record BBP, Newton was signed to a 2 year contract prior to the end of 2008 at a time when we had no forward options. He is not on big coin so it aint breaking the bank. And given our lack of options up forward we need to exhaust every avenue. He is not going to make an AFL player.

And you would be the last person to put in charge of sacking having wanted to lynch Bohdan B. for the spate of contact injuires suffered in 2007.

Put your torch away and have a lie down.

I doubt the story very much, it just doesn't seem right to me.

As for keeping him, well I think we are obliged to. The upside is that in 12 months we will know with absolute certainty if he can play or not, I suspect the latter.

Posted

Lol so if hes not on big coin, then why keep him? and if we cant sack him then trade him, for whatever we can get, who knows what we could find. Give sumone else a go up forward, not like we want to win or anything, Put anyone FF, who cares, stop wasting room on the list with dead wood

Were there key terms of performance in Newton's contract RR?

The kind that were not met, and hence breached?

Reading between the lines here RR, are you alluding that paying out Newton will not be costly and therefore he will unlikely make the list for 2010.

Most contracts have terms of performance for each player some general. some player specific.

If there was any truth to the SEN, like everyone I doubt it, then I can only think that there may be reason for terminating the contract. Sometimes these things can be done mutually (eg Nicholson)

This is all speculation. I have no inside information on Newton. Unlike some supporters clubs just dont "sack" players and pay out contracts. All I know is that Newton is contracted for next year.

My only comment on Newton's contract value is that common sense would tell you that as a fringe player he would hardly be sucking up too many valuable dollars of the salary pool.

100% IF he has been sacked and that's very doubtful, it's almost certainly as a breach of contract and not because we've raised a surplus of cash from our debt demolition.

Why do people get integrity confused with stupidity? He's a list clogger that you couldn't possibly trade for, no team in their right mind would want him. If we want to be a better team we can't have players like him on the list contracted or not.

Actually DD, I'd say that in a way his presence on the list is harmful. We're going to have a tough time delisting players this year, and he should be the first to go. If we're after 6 vacancies (1, 2, 18, 34, PSD 1 & 1 rookie elevation), then we need to find 3 characters to add to Robbo, Whelan and Wheatley. Obviously I'm not advocating dumping listed players, but there are going to be one or two stiff blokes next month.

Load of old garbage. HE'S not hurting the club. The people in charge of the list are. We recruit, trade for, draft about 4-7 players every year... some of them aren't going to turn out to make it. That's not Juice's fault. He's putting in, he's just looking like he's not up to it. Always had the talent, and the physical gifts to go far, his problem is just a mental/application/desire/ego thing.

For all you Newton haters, blame the insane list manager that gave him a 2 year contract at the end of an unproductive 2008.

Well maybe not the sack, but it's certainly not a tick against his name. As RR has said, at the time he was given his contract it was the right call. He had PLENTY of talent, but the mental stuff was yet to show itself. In 2008 he COULD have made it, so it was the right call. In 2010, we'll know more. Nuff said...

Posted
You're going a long way to being tool of the year on here.

Why would you get excited that he's going? He's not hurting the club. If anything, it just makes MFC look bad if we let him go now. That, and we don't have the opportunity to delist him the respectful and correct way.

So he wasn't up to it. So what? You pull on the boots and play in the Red and Blue. See if you kick any goals, win MOTY.

Rubbish Panta is 100% right and you are as usual 100% wrong.

The old you can't do any better response that's the best you can come up with. Never said that I should replace him just hoping someone else does and when a player on our list gets the sack when he should be on the list and Newton is still on it I will be proven right.

Hey, he is a human being ,not a piece of ###$%%

His efforts may not be up to your perfect standard, but I will bet he has attempted to make it. WHich is probably more than your negative "  ëfforts"

Sorry Mrs Newton

I am sure I have already explained to you the complexities and implications of paying out a contract early just because you think a player is a dud. At first I thought you were naive now.. and its got nothing to do with integrity.. :)

Read my post carefully. I never suggested the list managers weren't responsible.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
