Davey for Captain

The longer this year goes on the more and more I can't see how anyone else can be Captain. He's a leader on and off the field. He's far and away our best player and he's got the respect of his teammates and the wider football community. He'll be our most senior player next year and deserves the honour. In 5 years when he retires a premeirship captain of the MFC Watts, Grimes or Scully will be well situated to takeover. Anyway you look at it, he ticks all the boxes.

I have been thinking exactly the same thing over the last few weeks. He is the only standout at the moment. There may be others in the future but Davey really stands out now.

This was discussed in our group at The G today ,you have a few more in agreement here on this suggestion!

He must now be under consideration for this job!

I'm not discussing our retiring Captain but who should be our next captain.

i'd have Mclean or Green ahead

I know Davey has been on our list for a couple of seasons now but watching him today he was just brilliant. He never wastes the ball and his kicks are jsut dead accurate. I love watching him play and I think he will be a great captain. This season he has just been awesome.

Mclean can't become the Captain on form alone.

Green - not sure he holds the respect like Davey

Brock McLean for mine, might be rough around the edges but he is our best leader and the guy I want representing my club as captain. Also for anyone saying Brad Green, MASSIVE NO, he played hard-ball with the club over contract negotiations to beef up his price right in the midst of the debt demolition.

Brent Moloney is my call for captain, he's the real workhorse and vocal leader on field, though i wouldn't be upset if Davey or Green got it. Green's probably missed the boat now, but Davey and Moloney are in the right age bracket to get it long-term.

He could have had more money if he went somewhere else. He quite rightly assessed his options before deciding that he couldn't leave the club that had given him so much. If anything, this decision only enhances my opinion of him as a future captain.

I think it has to be Aaron or Brent.

Aaron is the best player we have, our only star, and he works harder than anyone.

Brent is the best leader of men at the club and would give his left nut if it meant he could win us a flag.

They both have 5 years of good footy left in the heart of the midfield and can, and do, impact games and those around them.

One person alone has been consistently leading by example on the field. Well done Aaron :)

That's because he's been the only one on the field every game! :D

That doesnt detract from his efforts !! would think youd want a leader out there each game ?

Others can easily emulate if they choose..few do.

Whether he is captain or not...he leads.. thats a serious requirement I think

Made the decision a tricky one, has Flash.

But there are players out who have as much claim. Had Green been there, I reckon he'd have had just s much of a day out.

Posted

But wait... is Davey even in the leadership group??

I can't remember exactly who is, but surely this would exclude him from the equation for now.

And Junior hasn't given up the reigns just yet - I wouldn't be hasty to assume he will.

We all know it's going to Bruce. What we think we see on the field just isn't enough. We don't really know what he's like in the locker room, and Bruce might be more respected among the playing group.

But I think it will be between Bruce and Davey.

Leader YES. Captain NO.

I would still give it to Brock.

Green for mine. That said, when you're not in the inner sanctum you don't know about so much that is relevant to the decision.

IMO Green leads by example in each game he plays.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
