Ben McKinley, Mark Seaby and Brent Reilly

love your work dappa, but why the hell would we want a player like reilly

Hey [censored]. Yeah, I just rate him. Don't get me wrong, I don't get all googly eyed. I just see him as a damaging player. He's a regular and effective part of a strong side too.

Nothing to get overly excited about. But yeah, 3rd round in a skinny draft perhaps? Not that they'd give him up for that.

Posted

Integrally depends on what we have to give up to get any of them, but I wouldn't give more than a 4th round pick or a reject player that we'd delist in a year's time anyway (Johnson, Bell, Newton, Bartram...)

But, having said that...

McKinley: would just be another under-sized forward in a long line of them, Robertson being the most recent. Has had one good year and this one wasn't it.

Seaby: no better than any of the ruckman we already have and his age is a serious issue. Wanted out last year and had no takers, now he's a year older.

Reilly: the only one of the three that I'd seriously consider. Not going to set the world on fire.

Hmmm. Our midfield has been an obvious issue this year. If as expected we draft Scully and Trengrove then we will have gone a long way to addressing part of the issue. The one factor that is either down played or overlooked completely is the ruck situation. The much maligned Mark Jamar has highlighted this issue, because when available he's at least been able to stem the centre square haemorrhaging. Besides Jamar we have two development ruckman (Meesen and Spencer) who need at least another 24-36 mths. By which time they'll either be useful contributers or a complete bust. We also have two makeshift ruckman in Stef Martin and PJ. One is still a long term WIP the other unfortunately I've put a line through in terms of ruck work. In short we need another experienced ruck to support Jamar while the others develop.

Mark Seaby isn't a perfect solution, but he might be the best solution available. He's 26 next year so he's still got 4-6 useful years left - by which time hopefully the development ruckmen have come through. I say best solution, because I think he's a far better second ruck prospect than anyone else on the list atm and he could be got through the PSD. I'd make a pitch and wait for December. The reason that he wasn't traded last year is because West Coast were unreasonable with what they wanted. They have far limited bargaining power now that he's out of contract.

Mark Seaby = No! Mediocre ruckman who doesn't demand the number 1 ruck status ahead of Jamar so would be a wasted recruit.

McKinley & Reilly would be ok but wouldn't give anything more then pick 34 + a player like Bell, Johnson, Newton or Buckley for either of them. Could always look at a trade like that? If one of them was uncontracted could have always looked to pick them up in the PSD.

Scully, Trengove, Blease, Strauss, Grimes, Davey, Bennell.

Mclean, Moloney (maybe Jones).

I seriously doubt we need Reilly.

Posted
We need a second ruck option. Meesen and Spencer are still learning - so I'd look at Seaby to come via the PSD.

No to McKinley and I'd be interested in a direct swap of a player for Reilly.

The only way Meeson will learn & get experience at his age is playing seniors.

Seaby - list clogger.

Actually Ben McKinley plays as a tall by having good hands and a good jump to the ball.

Also Reilly in fact is a quick midfielder as you would have seen last night if you watched it. He is quite quick off the mark.

I think they would both be resonable if we could get them to slip through to the PSD.Both would offer something & if we can get them for free without trading i think its worth it.Crows seem to think that Reilly will go,also Haselby & peake both want to leave the Shockers so im not sure of theyre contracts but sounds like there could be a few good players in PSD

Maybe swap Bell for Reilly, know hes from SA & the Crows have talked about Bell in the past.SA teams love Sa boys coming back home. This way we get rid of Bell & pick up someone who is better & would help some of the young guys in the mid.Think the Crows would take it cos Reilly uncontracted & at least this way the get a player instead of losing him to PSD & this way we still get 1st PSD pick

This is the key point to be made.

... except his name is Meesen.

I am assuming your listing midfielders? If so, Strauss and Grimes are defenders. Bennell too. And Davey would be better utilized as a forward flanker.

Reilly's an interesting one - is he a Victorian?

As others have said, Seaby would be halting the development of our young rucks by taking up a spot in the side.

If you want to throw VFL at me, remember that PJ won the Liston a few years back.

McKin is still young and obviously has a lot of potential after kicking quite a few goals last year, this year has not been his best but like i said still young. He is a full forward and nothing else, he is pretty built and could be a power forward bails has been craving like the rock in the square

McKinley is hardly a Roughead/Kosi type!

Carlton were right into Ben McKinley last year to cross over - however with the Warnock trade being conducted concurrently they couldn't gather the picks needed to convince West Coast.

Ben McKinley also received offers from Essendon but chose to re-sign with WCE.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out come October (with WCE now knowing they can't lose him for nothing).

Grimes was recruited as a mid and will end up there. Strauss has played back flank and midfield in his junior days.

My hope is that Davey and Grimes are in our top 6 players and starring in the effing midfield.

If they aren't playing in the guts next year I will be very dissappointed.

And Bate is a better HFF than McKinley (and taller), Jamar is better than Seaby, and Reilly would make our slow midfield on a par with continental drift...

Heard Parko on Fox last week - League Teams I think it is with BT, Pickering & Co - say that Kennedy will end up back at Carlton. They will move heaven & earth to get him back.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Yeah I heard it too.

Parko said "Kennedy still is blue at heart"

Give me a break, He wanted to remain a Blue (which is why he signed on for 2 more years in July 07) - but Carlton shafted him.

Suddenly Parko thinks he'll just drop all of the things that are going right for him at WCE and turn around to come back Carlton like some sort of pathetic ex girlfriend?

Please.

Why would he have said that? Mind boggles.

Is Fevola safe at Carlton?

Maybe I'm trying to read something that's just not there. Throughout the year Carlton were either fed up with Fevola or they loved him. Worsfold comes out and is fishing for a small forward/or forward, prepared to part with their 1st draft pick. And Parko is adamant that Carlton will try and get Kennedy back sooner or later. Is there smoke here you think, or am I looking into it too much?!

I mean they have history these two sides, they both are linked to the Judd / Kennedy deal and they both tank. Ha.

I think I'll leave it here, it's too early for this crap.

Why's it so absurd? That's exactly what Trent Croad did.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
