Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Changes vs Roos

After todays match whats your thoughts on the changes vs roos

there should be some good ins

in: morton, mclean, wheatley, moloney, sylvia

out: spencer, whelan, jetta, valenti, newton

We can beat North and ruin it all.

Newton is the greatest tanking weapon currently at our disposal (PJ a close second).

Also Spencer played really well in the ruck today. He has a good future ahead of him, even though he is an awkward looking gigantisorous.

Depending on injuries, Martin, Bennell, Whelan and Rivers may miss. If we're serious about picks 1 & 2, Grimes and Davey should take a hike.

Not sure how long we can keep Sylvia out of the side, and Morton is likely to get over whatever made up flu kept him out today. Also if Watts is fit, I'd like to see him get a few more matches before the end of the year.

But whichever way you look at it, today's team cannot possibly be made worse for next week, and that makes me nervous. Gotta hold on for just one more week!

I agree with Jaded, but take some heart in the fact that North are a considerably better side than Richmond, and us too for that matter. I'm still nervous, though.

I would like to see Watts come in, and I'd like him played all over the ground. I'd be keen to see this even if we werent tanking, but considering we are, it should be a no-brainer; it'll be a good learning experience for him and he won't have any huge influence on the game. Maybe they could rest a guy like Bate or Jones in order to make way for him. We probably can't justify keeping Sylvia out any longer, so bring him in and don't take him out of the backline unless and until we are no chance of winning the game.

I'm almost tempted to suggest we drop Grimes, but I'd hate to see us lose the plot and curb the developement of younger players in our effort to lose. The more games we can get into guys like Grimes and Jurrah, the better- its a good problem to have actually; playing the kids with a view to getting a PP, but being worried that one or two of them might be so good that they'll win a game off their own boot.

I hope Cheney doesn't get dropped. I thought he was pretty good today. I certainly want to see our youngsters getting game time over the next 5 weeks. We have to do something productive in these 5 weeks, rather than just working out how to lose.

Bennell did a medial ligament, Martin injure his calf in the 2nd qtr and took no further part, Whelan injured his foot and Rivers also limped off at the end of the game. So all these players are possible. So most likely there will be no omitted players out of this clash even though newton was horrible.

Ins: Buckley, Sylvia, Morton, Hughes

Outs: Bennell (Knee), Martin (Calf), Whelan (foot) Rivers?

Crap, I hope Bennell's isn't serious. Pity about Martin too. And wasn't today Whelan's 149th game? That would be very sad if he couldn't get to 150.

If anybody deserves a milestone game, it is Whelan.

Watts for Newton (unfortunately the only positive for him was his stats). This only proves that if you run around in circles long enough the ball wiil eventually come to you.

Otherwise Sylvia for Bennell assuming he is injured,

Hughes for PJ or Spence if he is injured.

Didnt see todays game Titan, but definitely agree with the gist of what you're saying re: Cheney and others. The first two picks are fantastic, but the main priority always has to be developing the list.

I felt really conflicted when we beat Port Adelaide, for exactly this sort of reason. We played the kids with a view to fast-tracking their developement and getting the first two picks, but when the kids come on better than expected and you end up winning (and jeopardising the picks), how are you sposed to feel?

First of all, you didn't miss much in terms of quality. In fact you missed nothing.

I want us to get the PP because that gives us the best chance at getting the best kids available, which in turn gives us the best chance at a premiership. However, I also want us to put significant time into Grimes, Cheney, Bennell, Jetta, Spencer, maybe also Watts and McNamara, in order for those guys to be even better next year, when winning 8-10 games is a must. But, as we saw today, if there is a danger that we might win, Bailey will be happy to change things up to ensure we don't. Frawley's a good example of that. He's a pretty good chance to win Most Improved 2009, but he was shifted forward today.

i think Crocker will be desperate for his first win as coach, so i think we can afford to bring Mclean, Sylvia and Morton in.

I thought Davey looked tired today ;) so drop him.

Grimes has a sore back again, need to take extra care of that ;)

Bruce is due for is rotation in the grandstand ;)

there should have been more from players trying to get themselves suspended.

go punching people. appeal. lose. get max weeks.

no one can argue we are tanking then.

not to mention the satisfaction i would have had from seeing miller smash cousins in the nose

every chance Davey will be outed for two anyways...( hopefully ;) ) that bump may attract more than a reprimand with any luck.

Look at that, even Y_M agrees Bruce may threaten our PP against the Roos.

Either Bruce played an 'inspired' game...or he just played normally...either way...keep him in :P

I think it will be another week of weird and wonderful selections when they come out thursday night, and then the following week could be 6, 7 maybe 8 huge ins for us and we destroy freo and then back to the "list management"

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
