Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

It looks like this was the perfect execution of tanking. For better or for worse, this game was lost at the selection table.

All over...

Dees 6.14 - 50

Swans 10.8 - 68

Weird match, we had 2 more scoring shots!

Not many players. Davey, Bartram, Bruce, Jurrah (injured), Martin, McKenzie, Miller (NOT his kicking), Beamer, Morton and Petterd... were all successful in patches...

Jolly probably BOG? Or Bolton?

Swans would be [censored] with that. We got exactly what we needed, except perhaps the injuries to Jurrah and Martin who both played the game out.

if they played with same side as last week we wouldv won by 50 points, the swans are terrible.

they also said that he has added another string to his bow with his defensive pressure.

Shame he can't do much else.

That forward line was comical. That Bailey threw PJ in there as well, just topped it off.

Jurrah vs. 6 Sydney defenders > Miller + Newton + Bate + PJ

A respectable loss in the end, and very well executed by Bailey and co.

We need to look to rest Jurrah (shin?) next week and maybe Davey. Morton is also performing dangerously well when given new tasks.

We have to hold on for just two more weeks, then we can unleash a mighty smashing on Freo and finish the year off with two loses to Carlton and St. Kilda.

It's a small sacrifice in the big scheme of things.

On the positive side, I like McKenzie. He is much better than Valenti, has decent kicking skills and very good hands. Potential rookie elevation for next year IMO.

Just get lost Newton!

Miller, you were supposed to become a club leader! Hilarious stuff,

Bate , you just are not capable of playing at this level!

I think we'd struggle against the Toiges anyhow !! lol.. But no harm in 'resting" any soreness ;) Cant take any chances

Despite the fact that many/most of us want to see us lose, we can't ignore the ineptitude of Miller, Newton and Johnson. Another woeful goal-kicking display from Newton and Miller, neither of whom should be on our list next year (contracts aside). Johnson is just hopeless.

Liked McKenzie's game though.

After watching this game I'm certain that the club is now doing it's best for our long term future.

Consider these examples in the last quarter when the game was to be won...

Martin in the ruck and Moloney, Valenti and McKenzie in the centre square

Two key forwards in Miller and Newton

Jurrah playing further up the ground

Morton playing a key defensive role

Jones doing the kick ins

This is just a small sample. Nice work Bails.

Was I the only one who thought Newton was okay today under the circumstances? He tackled hard, led well and won the ball, and the delivery in to the forward line was as bad as it has been all year. Could've easily had a small bag if not for average kicking for goal.

Must've been watching a different game to everyone else.

In that case Miller also had a good game.

He took better marks, had more shots on goal, and led better.

But in reality, both had ordinary games. At least Miller provides us with a moving target.

The issue with Newton, kicking aside, is that he lacks football smarts and just has no idea what to do most of the time. Couple that with horrendous kicking skills, and you got yourself someone who IMO is beyond salvation.

Careful what you wish for. Too big a thrashing of Freo and they'll end up with the wooden spoon and Scully

No.

They can end up with the wooden spoon, but if we finish on 4 wins and below West Coast (which going on percentage alone, we should), we still get pick 1.

Whether we get pick 2, 3 or 4 will depend on whether Freo finish last, and if West Coast also finish on 4 wins.

If the ladder after round 22 is:

14. West Coast 4-18

15. Melbourne 4-18

16. Freo 4-18

Then we get picks 1 & 4. If West Coast win one more (they could given they play Richmond and North at Subi), we get picks 1 & 3 at worst.

I'd be happy to avoid the spoon and get picks 1 & 3, particularly if it looks like Freo will take a Western Australian with pick 2, meaning we end up with Scully, Tangrove and no spoon.

Hhhmmm ...

Their kicking for goal cost us the game, obviously. (Thankfully?!) But they also gave us the chance to win it, with their work-rate, structure and marking. 'Ordinary' is probably the least appropriate adjective. Such was the incredible gulf between what they did well and poorly, they are anything but.

Obviously Jaded's inferring this possible mismatch may have played in favour of the Swannettes and helped their advantage ( our position..nudge nudge )

Seems Cales up to the task...thats great. We do actually want some player advancements...just not to the detriment of our aim ;)

Yep, I agree with Jaded. But also, Morton has the endurance to play a style similar to Goodes game, what better way to teach him how Goodes goes about it, than to play on him. Win/Win, nudge nudge, wink wink.

absolutely disgusted in the selectors....let's see who will be dropped next week!!!!!!!!.....if it's on bad form out Miller and Newton. Reminded me of Whitnall round 22 ...CARLTANK. All those missed goals was embarrassing. !!!!!!!!!!!!

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
