Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

which melbourne listed players supported the dees as kids

Brock Mclean did not support any club as a kid, so that he wouldn't have any torn loyalties when he was drafted. (Not kidding!)

I think that counts, in as much as the Demons are his only ever club.

I know Jack Watts has supported Melbourne since he was in High School...

After watching the team enjoy singing the team song. l started to wonder which players grew up supporting Melbourne ?

their are three that l no of

1 Simon Buckley

2 Brent Moloney

3 Jack Grimes

I don't know of any others, but it's likely there might be one or two more on the list.

It's a romantic notion, but i love the idea of kids who grew up barracking for the team they're eventually drafted to. I suppose, it's very much a way of living vicariously through them. The three guys you listed above are literally living my dream!

Call me sentimental, but that in itself is enough for me to support them just that little bit harder, and feel for them that much more when things aren't going their way. For this reason, i hope Buck's can get his body right and have a good year next year, or at least a red-hot crack, and not die wondering. How shattered would u be, getting drafted to the club that you've supported your whole life, only to not make it because of a horror run with injury?

That's almost as bad as when the Hawks traded Trent Croad, who grew up a passionate Hawks supporter, to Freo. Actually, that's like my ultimate dream (playing for the club u grew up supporting) mixed with my worst nightmare (playing for Freo). Luckily for him, they got him back and he won a flag with them... Some stories are just meant to be i guess ;)

we have all kicked the winning goal in a grand final playing for the team you support in the backyard. How good would it be to just play for them on a weekly basis for real!!!!!!

I am pretty sure Brock was a big Essendon supporter as a kid, I know he attended Essesndon training a bit before he got drafted.

He was just doing the right thing in an interview by saying he didn't support a club, supporters don't like it too much when straight after you get drafted the player says "I was a big supporter of your rival team".

I heard Brock was a doggies supporter! Although like you, I heard those stories about him attending Essadon training sessions.

However of late, Brock seems to have put his money where his heart is. And I'm proud of him for it. :D

Yep pretty sure Bret was a one eyed supporter as a kid.

Isn't it just beautiful to see though...? I watched the team song about 5 times this weeks already, just watching Moloney go nuts and almost have a seizure singing that song gave me goose bumps. Was beautiful to watch. I was very surprised to also see Russian belt it out with lots and lots of pride.

Really? I know he said he didn't follow a team, which I never believe. Surely everyone in Melbourne who has anything to do with footy has at least a slight preference. I'm sure someone gets into their ear before they get drafted and tells them to play the "I don't support one particular club" card.

You'd think so, but I have mates that have never looked like getting drafted, watch footy just as much as myself, yet claim no allegiances.

I don't get it either...

Speaking of this, and you're quite right BBP, after Jones' first game they interviewed him on the group and he exclaimed how he was a massive Saints fan.

Didn't Brock live in the Northern suburbs?

Bombers training may have just been the closest AFL team to where he lived.

I think you're right. I recall John Barnes on one of the old foxtel programs when they went through the teams, he stated that Brock McLean used to go to training at Windy Hill as a kid and have a kick, hang around the club.

Thats not he first time i have seen Brett sing the song with as much passion ( and somewhat more in some instances) as our supporters!

He lived in Aberfeldie, which is in the West.

Its only a few minutes from Windy Hill.

Danny Hughes was a massive melbourne supportet, i remember talking to him about it a few weeks ago. He also mentioned he still has a photo with him and jim stynes from when he was just a kid up around the house!

I've been a big advocate of Danny getting a game soon. Knowing that he was a MFC supporter prior to being drafted, now i really really hope, more than ever, that he gets his chance to don the red and blue before the season is out. He's been on the rookie list for 3 of the last 4 years, c'mon Bail's... give him his debut!

Even if he doesn't make it, at least he'll be able to say he played a game for the club he's always loved! A story for the grandkids... ;)

Was anyone watching AFL Teams just then on fox?

David Parkin just said he was a big Melbourne fan when he was a kid.

Good on the old bloke.

It was kinda relevant to the topic......well, not really.......

How did BT react? His hatred for the MFC is sad and quite disgraceful really.

Good on DP but I'm sure his allegiance now lies with Hawthorn.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
