Our early draft picks

dee-luded

A bit of a hypothetical here :

What would be the chances of a young player not liking the look of the teams getting early picks, so has a chat to one of the bigger clubs and agrees to take it easy at carnivals / draft camp to ensure he slips through to them. Far fetched or not ??

I remember that one of the many theories on websites last year was that WC had told Daniel Rich to take it easy & I think his carnival wasn't too special. But history shows ....

There is no chance that a kid would ease up in the hope of getting picked up by a certain club. We've seen countless of highly credentialed kids have poor finals seasons in their last year of u/18's miss out of selections, or fall through to a rookie spot making it bloody hard for them to prove themselves. For a kid starting out their career it's just not worth the risk.

In saying that if a kid were to go down that track then I agree with the posters before me, i wouldn't want him in my team and I can't imagine any recruiter who would disagree with that sentiment. Recruiters want to see kids peform, their jobs are on the line as well, why risk it for a kid of dubious character?

I've been a big fan of the notion of Scully and Butcher coming to us, but the form of Trengrove is very hard to ignore. If we were to get both he ans Scully we would have our elite midfield. The two questions then are do we have enough in our forward line to make things work with these guys sending the ball in? and Is the "go home" factor too big a risk?

Watts, Jurrah, Miller, Maric, Wona and Bate for instance, is not the best forward line, but it could have potential with the supply we'd be getting. We also could find ourselves picking up a pretty good KPP in the second round. There were a few highly rated guys who slipped down into the 20's lats year.

Bailey may try to develop Wona and Maric, Grimes, Jetta into mids. If just a couple come up trumps then off we go. If Butcher is assessed by the club as capable of playing good AFL footy then we should go for him at 2.

Read on BF that Scully is AFL ready now.

If the club wants 2 AFL ready players them Morabito or Trengove will be a chance.

May have to be patient with Butcher

This isnt our last draft ever. Sure next years is dfferent but if we finish bottom 2 which i think we will we will still end up with pick 4 or 6. Still could get a very good/elite key forward of midfielder next year. Go with best availabe and if we end up with 2 many mids like Geelong did we could trade one out for what we need. Like Moloney for Ottens.

Scully is apparantly a lock in at 1. From what i read on BF Morabito's stocks are rising. Big, quick, acceleration factor, can kick goals and they say AFL ready.

Does anyone know his height and weight? Is he a possible forward. Currently plays wing for the WA team.

Shhh! Don't tell freak?

Morabito - 190/90

Lucas ---- 188/79

Panos ---- 192/85???

Trengove - 185/82

Scully ---- 182/74

All class players - don't let WC get 2 off :)

I think we'll get a good Key Forward around the 20s - 30s.

And another, as you say, next year.

In the paper they wrote that Trengrove's championships have been so good that some recruiters rate him equal to Scully. Anyone who saw our side on Saturday night know that we need to go for 2 mids.

I want two mids that canb come strait in and play. Stuff this development stuff, like what were doing on strauss etc.

Your right, thats true, & I was one who followed that theory. Because I wanted an Elite midfielder that could kick & was one of the best Picks.

I was right to like Rich, he's going great, but we wanted class players that would take a little time to develope. Obviously this was to allow us to be in a position to still pick up 2 elite players this draft. In hindsight the club was spot on, my way may have taken us down the Road towards a Richmond type outcome. In betwen Hacksville team.

The Best Roast takes time to cook.

ge tthe two best kids. i think it's that simple.i don't think we're in a position to draft for needs just yet as there are so many of them. i do like the look of panos and hope he's around for our 2nd round pick. wishfu thinking i think though

It looks like they're planning a list that'll come together in 2011. Next year I'm sure will see us improve on this year a bit, (4 - 7 wins) close to 30% win ratio.

2011 IMO will see us close to the Eight. (7th,8,9,10th).

NO, but its the last fair and even one for quite some time. Any team bottoming out in the next 5 years is in serious poo.

We cant take on board forever an attitude that we are perenialy bolstering our stocks, continually topping up or getting this kpp of that. At some point in time you actually have to gel and start playing winning footy. For mine thats next year. We need to start climbing ...next year. We cant be bothering ourselves over;ly with what we might get in a draft 'next' year, or that we'll still have a really good pick, ( 'cause we're still playing crap !! )

We have some kpp's coming along. They do take a bit longer. What we really need is some get up and go. We are far from having too many 'real" midfielders !!

I totally agree and would love us to win as many as possible next year. Finishing 9th would be an awesome result even. Im just not sure how many teams we can pass next year if any. So as much as i want us to win as many games as possible at the end of the day i still think we will get another high pick, so there is no need to panic and think we really need another key forward lets take Butcher even if he isn't as good as Trengove.

Some vids i found on Mathew Panos looks the gooods. IMO from the highlets ive seen shows more than Butcher.

What did Butcher say in public a month or so ago that turned us all off for a moment. I just have in mind that he seemed to be quite arrogant but maybe that is a good thing to have that self confidence.

Its not what he said that turned me off, itrs just from what ive seen besides that big grab or mark on the lead its all his really got. And doesnt see much of the pill other than when marking. But dont shoot me down thats from what ive seen.

If it was simply that quote that honestly turned you off then I have serious doubts about your intelligence...

That quote was such a non-event. A mountain made out of a molehill by bored desperate posters.

Scully and Trengove for me! Other draft selections should be used on KP or best available. Would like to trade for another low draft pick but will find it difficult. I dont think any clubs will budge and I dont think we have anyone to offer!

Agree.

Scully and Trengove are the two that are standing out for me and I like the little footage I have seen of them both.

Morabito doesn't do it for me at all. I don't know what the hype is about him. I wish people would look at his kicking. We need players that can kick !!! We have very few who can really hit targets. He has a terrible action and from what I have seen blazes away blindly.

I hope there is good KP player for us to get with later pick.

It seems like pick 1 will be a mid. Is Scully still the lock as #1 pick for most?

If pick 2 was a choice between an equally-ranked KPF and mid we should take the KPF (assuming we've already taken the standout mid).

However, I'm not sure there'll be a KPF ranked in the top two unless Butcher happens to turn it on in a couple of days.

I don't think he's a lock just yet. Although he is favoured to if you read or listen to most commentators. Of late Trengove has made good progress according to some 'anonymous' recruiters quotes in papers.

In the paper they wrote that Trengrove's championships have been so good that some recruiters rate him equal to Scully. Anyone who saw our side on Saturday night know that we need to go for 2 mids.

Indeed.

Whilst decisions can't be made on one game alone. Will keep a watchful eye on prospective draftees mentioned throughout the threads today at Etihad, and give some insight later tonight/early tomorrow.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
