Its due to match ups mate.

Martin is stiff but it was either him or warnock considering the collingwood forward line.

Really unlucky - but he will be back. Started playing footy very late - wants to play as a key forward - will learn the trade at Casey. Already knows how to play down back and is incredibly fast. Could be Melbourne's X factor in a few years time.

No Steph Marftin is not a new russian recruit. Just typo after two glasses of red.

haha lol u can change it mate just go full edit ;)

I agree if you think it has anything to do with potential or current form you know nothing at all about football. Thank god someone has finally spoken some sense of this topic. Thankyou

I predicted that poor Stef would get dropped. Stef has been playing all around the place as a back man whilst rivers was out and then Garland, the ruck when the Meese went down, and the forward when Robbo got dropped. Stef will be the better I predict, with the experience in many positions. Unfortunately for a kid that only just came out of Basketball, it has been a little silly to give him so much responsibility so soon, at only 22. He will put pressure on all positions he has played in and will give us so much depth in the future. Good luck Stef.

As much as i am a fan of the big guy dont forget we are the bottom side and aothers at casey have performed call it match ups call it what ever you want but seriously our backs are settled and we need goal kicking forwards yes he got 2 the other week but he is still learning and 2 or 2 weeks will do this guy the world at casey learning a key spot, sorry but Stef needs to do this and will come back so much better and yes i hear you all sayimg its VFL level bet he has only played limited time at this game.

with jack and we def needed robbo back 2 had to go what are we going to say if newton gets a start to i can hear it now, yet if you have seen this guy since his last game is whole game has improved and has his attitude yhat i have seen with my own eyes

Chin up Stef you will be back

Yep, on the one hand it's a shame he misses, on the other hand, it lightens the load for him just a little as her closes in on hideous exam time.

As a developing player, and with the mature head he's got on his shoulders, he'll hardly take it personally or even as a backward step.

I was startled to seem him dropped, but as pointed out, it's an appropriate call, this week.

While the view on his form is pretty positive on Demonland, he got three votes in the 'bad ones' on MMM last week.

That's true.

I love this guy, he has a great combination of size, speed and ability. For a bloke who hasn't played a great deal of footy, shows a natural ability to take a mark. And I did like seeing him play forward a couple of weeks ago at the G. Saw him sprint 40m from one flank to the other to provide support (and put a nice block on to free up Davey), impressive from a big guy.

BUT - at the end of the day, unless he can COMPLETELY refine his kicking style he's unlikely to become a key forward, and Warnock has to be ahead of him in terms of playing a disciplined man-on-man key defensive position, so if the club doesn't see a matchup the dropping is understandable.

It's an odd (but good) situation to be on the bottom of the ladder and have too many tall defenders!

at a function last night I went to, Josh Mahoney says they want Stef to learn to be a pinch hitter up forward, he states that he will learn the craft of being a forward back at casey. Personally I would like him to be a backman as he showed some talent down there, but they know best.

Hope he can learn his craft then.

I think that's the right thing to do, as ultimately Martin will be squeezed out of the backline when Garland returns.

Since he is raw, and still developing, making his learn a new position will be of great benefit to us. We still need to find another tall forward, and if Martin can learn the craft and make an impact as a forward it will ensure he will become a starting 18 player for years to come.

I'm a big fan of Martin also, but think he will be able to learn his new position just as well at Casey. Perhaps even better as there will probably be more opportunity (Insdie 50's). I really, really hope this kid makes it. He seems to be a fascinating person (his IQ is probably more than the combined IQ of the Collingwood cheersquad) and I am a sucker for late starters and low draft picks coming good.

bailey spoke about martin the other week - that he was being tried in a number of positions.... in the future he will be asked to go back and forward and the better he is able to do this, the mroe dangerous he can be....

for me, he is one of our most exciting prospects...

his pace, his vertical leap is impressive but mroe importantly, his ability to jump in the air and spoil at angles makes him very important....

he will be back and without doubt better for it....

is a great kid!!

This kid will make it don't worry about that.

It has been tough for him and a little unfair. He has played less than 20 games and has already played at full back, centre half back, full forward and ruck. He is a late starter to the game and it would have been in his best interests to put him in a position and leave him there as he learns the game and gets his "footy brain" into gear.

Unfortunately circumstances have not allowed that to happen. But he will be back and definitely will be part of our future plans.

Posted

I see him in future as our Adam Hunter-type key position player: automatically picked in the 22 as a very good backmen, yet still able to go forward and kick goals when needed. This is something ND tried to do with Miller, with very limited success, but i think Stef will be up to it. We haven't had a genuine KP who could play back as well as he did forward since Neita in the 90's.

He's got plenty of time, i'm not worried about his future one bit. He already looks like just a 'natural' sportsmen, like guys like JW, Scott Pendlbury and other ex-basketballers. One of those guys with amazing physical attributes who could pick up any sport and in quick time be quite good at it. It's one thing he certainly has over Miller, who is more of a battler-type rather than a natural, and thus playing both defence and attack seemed to do more harm than good to his development, as it almost confused him as to what his role was. Martin will be fine playing that 'swing-man' role as he's an intelligent, natural player and fast learner, as well as an athlete, who will only get better with the more positions he's exposed to. But ultimately, i see him as a backmen primarily.

I've been of the opinion that both Martin & Garland will be used as 'swingmen' in our future plans. Depending on the best matchups for us.

Warnock, Rivers & Frawley are more defenders & Martin & Garland both strike me as the types who can turn their skills to offence.

I like the way this clubs is heading..

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
