Vs Essendon just because of mates giving Melbourne so much [censored], so much that it made me put 100bux on the line wed win one before them.

And hopefully Brocy as captain playing really good football proving that the speed of the game hasn't taken over!

It would have to be a close win against Carlton. With Meesen (who no-one else had faith in) and either Spencer or Johnson absolutely carving up Kruezer who they tanked for and Warnock who was seduced by there dirty money and false delsuions of grandeur. Moloney for Captain to erase the hurt of missing out on Geelongs success. Morton for Norm Smith as final insult to their tanking.

I'd want to beat the arrogance that is Carlton. They also started our premiership drought, after stealing Barassi from us. Since I want Aaron to be our next captain, I voted Bails and Flash holding the cup. Although, wouldn't mind someone like Jack Watts either. ;)

Ok, coffee break, we're almost at the weekend and yes it's a another poll. Just thought I'd ask Demonlanders this: -

If "The Mighty Demons" were playing in the AFL Grand Final next year (of course hypothetically  ; but nevertheless possible), which team would you want The Dees to play and win the Premiership against?

So think about who you might despise the most, etc....

I have a sneaky suspicion who the most voted team may be, but I won't influence voting by alluding to the team I have in mind. Vote away....

Also, think about who you would like to see lift the Premiership Cup on the victory dias. For the sake of the exercise it must be Dean Bailey and someone.

FootNote: Hey Swamp fox, I've put in *West Sydney & *Gold Coast, just in case you complain about another poll! ;)

**Did you want me to include a Tassie Team as well? Well I did just in case the poll copped flak!

Living in Perth, I would love to beat the Weagles in a 100 point thrashing. Might just keep them off the Back page for a day or two. You should read the crap over here,eg. Back page headlines, "So and so of the Eagles in doubt with a split finger nail on his little finger" and so on and so on. And some of my Melbourne mates ask me, because I now live in the west, if I now barrack for the Eagles! Ha funny ha! Once a Demon ALWAYS a Demon!

Vs. C'wood. We win by two points, the decider being a set shot by Greeny after the siren (from 50m. on the boundary, of

course!). The thought of it takes me back to '64. I'm not sure the heart could handle it this time around, but geez, I'd die a happy bloke.

Haha, I'm an idiot.

I saw the "1" in the Bullies column and didn't even see your post.

I used to live in the west and I have a big soft spot for the Bullies...perhaps because I've moved away?

If i had a preference it would be Hawthorn because of the rivalry we had in the 80's early 90's which the hawks had the better of mainly due to the 88 premiership. I hated them with a passion and still do. Bombers would be next for me. Ironic these two were the ones that beat us in the two GFs and that is probably the underlining reason why. Still hate the collingwood and carltons. The bottom line for me really is i dont care who it is i just want a premiership.

Interesting to see Collingwood is the preferred loser of any Demon Premiership. Sure it would be great to beat them, but jeez, going into a Grand Final against Collingwood would be one for the nerves. Winning, heaven. Losing, absolute hell.

As for how I would like to win a Grand Final, I always loved how Essendon beat Hawthorn in '84. Something like that would be special.

As for the poll, I think if one of the options were 'Any of the above', it would win hands down.

A Grand Final victory Over Hawthorn, Carlton, Essendon or collingwood. With a special mention to Footscray who beat us in '54 so we owe them one. Imagine how good the 50's record would be if we had snared 54!!! Brad Green Hold that Cup Aloft

....of course...

Having survived watching the Gablich run from the wing as a 10 year old kid in 64 beating the filth by less than a goal is the ultimate premiership dream! (enjoyed 66 and 70 also even wasnt the dees!)

Thumping the Bummers would be next best because of 2000 GF treatment of our young players!!!

After so long in the end would not care as long as we break the drought!!

Aaron or Jack Watts would be worthy candidates to hold the cup up as both likely to be in the mix in 3 or 4 years and not only have the talent but also quality individuals off field too.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
