Paul Cribbin off Down Under for AFL trial

KILDARE minor star Paul Cribbin is off to Australia today (Wednesday) for a trial with AFL club Melbourne.

The Johnstownbridge man will spend two weeks down under but is expected to return a week before Kildare's all important Leinster semi final clash with Meath in Navan.

Some web search have found these quotes

"Cribbin oozed all the skills and football attributes of a complete footballer – high-fielding, terrific balls skills and first class scoring ability as he banged home 1-2 for his team"

However here talks about Collin#$%d

How come we only get the minor stars and others get the major stars?

The kid's only 16. Can't get drafted for a year ot two.

GAA minors is the premier under 18 competition in Ireland, basically the TAC Cup. Cribbin is starring for one of the best teams in that competition.

According to Croke Park officials, the very modest Cribbin is allegedly good kicking goals on his back... ;)

Good luck Paul.

"terrific balls skills and first class scoring ability as he banged home 1-2 for his team" ...

Let's not get too carried away with Irish recruits. While I applaud the fact that we're getting back into the business of trying to find players from outside the usual sources, we should remember that the percentage of these players who make it to the AFL is still relatively low. Our last aspirant from Ireland was Nick Walsh who was brought out here and went to one of APS schools. Apparently, he once tagged Chris Judd in a school game and gave him some problems. We all got excited about our new Sean Wight but he spent the next two years either injured or playing with Sandy seconds and then went home.

Hopefully, we get a better return from this lad.

Turns out he's training here with Collingwood. Too much for us to expect us to take such an initiative.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
