I've been reading up on the whole stadium deals of late and that the main problem appears to be Docklands rather then the MCG as such. What I want to know is if the AFL took a hard stand and moved games that draw a low crowd and moved them to Princes Park (which for Melbourne would be 5 games this year) how many people would actually go? Or would we be betetr off staying at the MCG for these games if only 10,000 would turn up at Princes Park.

I for one would still go to Princes Park, and I'd like to think my reserve seat membership I get for the MCG would carry over at PP but would other people also? Or would we be better selling home games to Belrieve Oval Hobart?

I come from the eastern suburbs and I despise Prices Park. The only reason that I would go is that my daughter will want to go.

Good ground. I enjoyed my last few visits enormously. Waite's first game and early goal ending in a Dees win.

And the Blues last game there, ending in a flogging by the Dees.

Big wins and nail biters sum up our last few visits.

It's a good ground to watch a game but it's a beast to get to, unless you ride a motorbike...then parking is a piece of p---.

Agree with what all of you have posted. Some major work needs to be done on both the parking and public transport out there. And I'm not convinced that they'd get more then 12,000 to those sorts of games out there. Makes you think it'd almost be worth their while doing up Casey?

Went to numerous Nab Challenge matches at the start of the year. Was absolutley fantastic. Very low crowd numbers made it feel as though you had the whole place to yourself watching two afl clubs go at it in a suburban setting.

Do up Casey all you want, but the fact remains no games will be played there until 2025 when the current contract with the Docklands runs out. As part of the clause no NEW stadiums can be developed in order to host AFL games.

As Princess Park was being used as an AFL ground when the Docklands agreement came to play it is not considered a new ground, therefore can still be used without any contractual ramifications.

In short, yes, I would go to Princess park

I celebrated a few years ago when I knew I would be attending that s#%*hole for the last time. If it comes back I will go to follow Melbourne but I don't enjoy going there.
Yes I would go anywhere to watch my team play. Have some good memories there. When we won after Neitz broke his ankle and stinger returned.

So does that mean that Victoria Park (as terrible as that place was) would also be able to host matches if able, seeing as that ground was still in use when Docklands came in?

Marcus Seacamp's right hook on that mongrel pearce for a squirral grip. Gold, nearly got my self lynched at half time in the CFC's members seats for that one! Beating them was even sweater that day!

I also remember Nathan Brown's debut out there with long blonde hair back in 98!

Yep, it has been mentioned, but because the ground is so dilapidated it's not worth the additional costs. Its that bad even the VFL team doesn't play there.

The cost to get Vi$y up and running is much more viable, especially considering it's going through a kind of re-development at the moment.

I used to live in Brunswick, so Princes Park was no trouble getting to. And generally enjoyed the games there as it was the last of the suburban grounds.

I no longer live in Brunswick and now live a little out of town but still go week in week out.

If we played games again at Princes Park I would go. But like most have pointed out, its a terrible ground to get to unless you live closeby.

I think most on this forum would go to the moon to watch the Dees play. It's convincing the 'maybe' element to attend games there that is and has been the problem in the past.

I'll never forget that and by memory first contest he was like a battery ram head first into a contest. I knew from that day he would be a great servent of the club

Great day that day. 3 goals down in the last quarter and we come back to pinch it.

I still don't think Macca's goal in the last was a goal. But so what right? We won.

Ah yes I remember that kick, well and truely a point! But a wins a win. The way I see it if Aussie Jones's out on the full against Brisbane at the dome back in 04 was a point, then Junior's behind this game in 98 was a goal. Think that was the first time I ever saw him play also.

id go there. its better than that abomanation of a stadium next to southern crab station

Agree, I can't stand Docklands, and the fact you need about 36,000 there to break even is a joke. Also our record there isn't the best. Can't wait till 2025!

I remember that 98 game, Junior had a shot at goal that pretty much won us the game, it missed by a foot and a half, but called a goal. I was right in-line with it. Happy times.

Like others, I'd rather go there than to Docklands.

I'd go there... Parking isn't great, public transport is okay, there's heaps of trams that run up royal parade. And it's only 700 metres walk from Royal Park station. With extra services to accommodate the match, public transport isn't hard.

Looking at the situation from purely a financial stand point, do we rather play Fremantle at the G and get 18k there and make a loss? Or 12k at Princes Park and make a profit? That's the sort of question we would be looking at, with a clean stadium we could make a tidy profit at Princes Park, even with a crowd significantly smaller than what we'd attract at the G...

As long as Carltank make nothing from it I don't mind it as a venue. Small ground, you feel like you're on top of the action, they need to upgrade the access to the beers though! It used to be very long lines for the good stuff. I recall going there in 95/96 and they still had the standing room area on the Royal parade wing/pocket was a great day with the boys.

If Carlton make one cent out of my money i would not go there. I Hate that place & am glad i have not been in there for years.

The name VISY Park makes my stomach turn. We have to make a good long term deal with the MCC. The Docklands is a smaller problem for us thank god.

Princes Park ? No. Skilled? Yes. Shrug.

why would you go to Geelong, so far away from Melbourne, yet wouldn't go to a ground just outside the melbourne CBD, and less than 6km from our traditional home ground?

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
