All week, the talk of how many possies G.Ablett would get, how good is he? blah blah blah

And our first centre bounce today, NOT ONE PLAYER WAS WITHIN 5 METERS OF HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

then just trots off and kicks the quickest, easiest goal in the history of the AFL

2nd bounce, junior had the presence of mind to stand next to him!

Whilst we covered him pretty well, the start of the game was just plain dumb

Yes I noticed it too and wondered whether any forethought was put into team planning at any stage .

This was THE biggest oversight ever imaginable , and who was to blame ?

I couldn't help but laugh to be honest. It was that ridiculous the way the game started.

But after the Cats got their second and were looking ominous, the guys really settled well and displayed some genuine self belief. I thought we genuinely won the first quarter. Just couldn't put it on the scoreboard, as has been too often the case.

Oh, we definitely won that quarter around the ground, we just didn't put it on the scoreboard.

9 Seconds from a centre bounce is nothing, remember the Dawks goaling with 7 seconds remaining on the clock kicking out after a behind?

Nice memory. Yes, it was 7 seconds.

And I still can't believe it.

Incorrect. His after burners were just to much for the Old J-mac to handle.

Was anyone really that surprised? I was expecting us to lose by more than 100 points. I would've been surprised if the game hadn't started like that.

Makes a fool of posters suggesting we dont tag Ablett.

It was a poor oversight at the start and hardly unpredictable.

LOL, I new this was coming 10sec into the game!

Key to it though was Blake getting the first tap. He dropped it perfectly into Ablett's path. Blake killed us in the first half ruck contests. Anyone who thinks ruckmen don't matter just don't get it.

They dont.

Cox and Sandilands have been the best rucks in the AFL for the past 2 years and their teams have gone nowhere. Ruckman dont influence games like midfielders and the way they used to.

Sitting in the MCC seats yesterday, we heard a loud high pitch voice coming from behind us. Turning around it originated from the 3AW box. It was Rex doing his fat lady singing, 10 seconds into the game! Perhaps a tad premature, but nonetheless accurate.

But didn't you like how, when we played one-on-one in the first quarter we actually broke even with them?!

We choked up their options when clearing the ball out of the backline and forced them to kick to one-on-one contests.

By the way, don't kid yourself, Ablett was down on form yesterday because he was carrying a groin injury, not because we successfully shut him down.

Oh and go refer to my post from last week and quote me saying that we should leave Ablett on his own in the centre square and let him do what he wants  ... that was the stupidest line-up at a first bounce that you are ever likely to see!

P.S.- Ablett may have 'struggled' (I wish all our players struggled like he does), but that still left Bartel and Chapman to do as they please. You cannot shut down their midfield, but as Bailey said before the game, the key is not to stop them getting the ball, it's to stop them from having options to kick to... which we did really well in the first quarter in particular.

Rex Hunt is a FAT PIECE OF S%$T, WHO HAS NO SENSE OF DECENCY FOR HIS FAMILY. HIS STUPID COMMENTS AND NICKNAMES ARE BORING AND OLD. HE USES HIS POSITION IN THE MEDIA TO BULLY PEOPLE.

If I ever meet you Hunt i will stick a surf fishing rod up your behind.

Ahh what an idiot.

And then we responded and hit the front later in the quarter. Was probably the highlight of the day.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
