Addam Maric

Recommended Posts

Was really looking forward to seeing Maric play today.

Safe to say he had a stinker. Seemed as though everything he did, he made a mess of.

Will he be dropped? I would say yes. He just looked lost out there today. I think he will be sent back to Casey for a spell and hopefully he can press for another chance later in the year.

I think he will turn out ok in the end, but his performace today is a reminder to us all that the rebuild is going to be a long process with lots of hopes, thrills and disappointments along the way.

Looking forward to seeing the real Addam Maric stand up later in the season.

Edit: I add this edit so as to make my point clearer as it seems to have been misunderstood.

I'm sorry if people felt I was merely being critical of Addam's performance on Sunday because that was never my intention. I wouldn't single out a young player like that.

The point I was trying to make was a general point concerning the 'hype' surrounding some of our young players. I used Addam as an example. Jack Grimes is another that comes to mind.

Maric had played only five games before Sunday and Jack Grimes has played just one. Yet you can read many posts on here about how they are going to be great players, even being deemed 'premiership quality.' You can also read how James Strauss and Sam Blease are going to be in our 'best 22 in 2010' before they've even played a game for the Casey seniors.

I used Maric's disappointing game on Sunday as an example of why we should be more measured in our expectations and estimations of players so young. I feel in some cases they have been over-hyped before they've really got themselves settled.

Like I said, the rebuilding process will be long with many ups and downs and the young players will thrill us as much as they will disappoint and frustrate us. Addam's performance yesterday was disappointing, but that's all it was.

He will be better for it and I am sure he will respond when he gets the chance, whether that be next week, next month or whenever.

Like I said, my intention was not to be merely critical of Addam's game on Sunday but to make a broader point about undue 'hype' for our younger players. Sorry again if people took it any other way.

As I said somewhere else, I think he was too aware of how fast the game is. He had far more time than he thought and wound up rushing his disposals when in reality he was under little pressure and could have taken time to settle and think a little about it. Given a week to relax and review his performance, I think we'll see a much better game next round.

Wouldn't be ready to send him back to Casery based on 1 horrid performance. Truth is Addam was able to find the ball very well today, his disposal was absolutley putrid, but that is so far from the norm for him. Whether he was overawed or trying too hard I'm not sure, but he has to be given another chance.

He just looked lost out there today.

Didn't look lost to me. Just rushed everything and lacked poise.

Don't see the point of dropping him. If he has 2-3 more like that, confidence might be an issue and might need a spell at Casey but Maric should be encouraged to go again. The games quick but Maric was playing supersonic and acted like there was 22 Usain Bolts playing for Geelong.

You'll be fine young fella.

why the hell would you drop him,

got lots of the ball,

just stuffed it everytime.

overawed by the occasion?

once he gets settled a game like today he'd have 4 goals against his name.

give hime time now - a shocker doesn't matter at this point.

by Round 12 (the pencilled in Watts game) he'll be fine.

Agreed. Probably a bit hasty in my call to drop him. I admit that.

Would love to see him just calm down a little.

The hype on here before the game was a bit much I think, he was disappointing with his skills and composure but you have to expect some of that, first AFL game for the year.

He'll be back and we'll fall in love all over again.

Kicked/handballed poorly when he is usually a beautiful kick in particular

Showed last year that he has significant ability when it comes to both winning the ball in the air and on the ground and kicking it precisely . This was his first game back. Should keep his place in the team as we are in our development phase this year and as such bringing a developing player in for a week then dropping him would not help his development. I would back him to do better next week. We certainly need more players who can kick it wth the precision that he normally does.

Didn't have a great game disposal wise but he showed that he can read the play well and at least find alot of the footy. I didn't mind his game, clearly he's better than he's effort today but there were glimpses of what he could become.

He sort of reminds me of Armstrong a bit, just a bit classier

Weak.

WEAK.

First game for the year, sixth of career, and you're hanging s#$% on him?

WEAK.

Amen......

Poor game aside, this thread is a pretty bloody ordinary one.

Nobodies hanging anything on him mate.

The whole point of the original post was that we SHOULDN'T be too disappointed with his performance considering all the hype surrounding his inclusion which many of us had been hoping for over the last couple of weeks.

Yes he had a bad game. But he'll be better for it.

Settle down.

I was under the impression it was "Ma-rick", and that he was no relation to the Maric ("Eevarn Ma-ritch") for Adelaide. I'm not certain of that though.

All the things he did wrong today were skills related -- lousy kicks and fumbles -- which are his supposed strengths, so I'd put it down completely to nerves of an inexperienced young player. Deserves another hitout.

I'm pretty sure he's not related. But it's spelt the same. So I guess it might be pronounced the same.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
