Got to hate trade week.

This would have to be the most frustrating, useless week in the football calendar for supporters.

It is mainly full of misinformation and plain crap.

It should be renamed "trade day" as nearly all trades seem to be done from Thursday afternoon until Friday 2.00 pm.

The thing that amuses me is that 99% of footy fans think trade week is put on to entertain them.

Well its not.

Frustrating, yes. But I think it's necessary. Trade week was never meant to be for the public's entertainment. If it as one day, clubs would not have sufficient time to talk with all clubs properly

I have edited the post to refer to supporters.

I like trade week because you get a lot of very silly threads that make you ponder the worth of a player.

As long as you understand almost all the talk is just that, talk, then it's really no different from the usual stuff posted. Just a lot more of it...

Though, they should limit the week to just three days. Apparently the coaches and much of the recruitment staff don't even turn up to the first 2 days.

I must be in the other 1% that gets their amusement from your predictions. Keep them coming, I am bored.

I love reading all the crap, half truth and rumours that go on, I think they do need the whole 5 days, let's face it they have probably been shopping around players before this week and it still takes them days and sometimes not enough time to get trades done.

You still make a valid point about the length of the trade period. Surely two days plus half a day to finalise would be enough?

I disagree

Trade week is a game of circular dominos. It starts theorectically form a known position but in reality its an illusion.. Clubs have their starting positions but they seldon allign....Its a bit liek shuffling a deck. It takes quite a few goes and a good knock to get the cards back into shape. Trade week is a bit like the Sprint in cycling.. Everyone knows where the finish is..but you want to get there in shape and in "your" time.

It take some time..and considerable thinking to mull over the various offers and their knock on effects. No-one in their right mind is going to make a snap decision.. Futures and life altering moves are at stake here.

I think anyone who considers that this is a slap dash effort is being a tad unrealistic!!

Better to have a full week of frantic activity now and keep it somewhat contained, than give not enough time now and have these things spilling out over the rest of the season (it's bad enough as is)

But yeah, the week itself stinks thoroughly.

I hate that the information is so sketchy and so many non-stories get thrown around.

I couldn't care less if they have a day or a week to do trades. We all know it ends at 2pm on Friday so why worry about it? We will find out what has been done then. A positive from having just one day is that it might stop the flogs who ring up radio stations and write on internet forums with the most ridiculous trades while claiming to be in the know.

Would PMSL if YM's "absolute lock" was just that and we did manage to snag Pick 4 off the Port Fairy Power.... I for one would have no problem with massaging YM's feet for a week solid if it came true!

My god.... I just realised how big a statement that was!

Actually its 100% not fun. On here we have;

a ) countless plebs getting their knickers in a twist because Yze_Magic is baiting them, and they are falling for it,

b ) even less intelligent plebs suggesting the most unbelievably ridiculous trades 'just for fun',

c ) a totally unreasonable sense of excitement that something significant might happen.

At the actual trade week we have;

a ) a few optimistic recruiters and list managers testing the waters, with most too timid and gutless to follow through with a deal that might be condemned by the unwashed,

b ) a very reasonable, and perhaps for some, sobering, realisation that absolutely nothing signficant will happen.

There is almost always at least ONE decent trade done..... And I have a feeling that we may just be involved in it..... But of course we all must wait till Friday to find out..... But my gut (which is slowly filling with beer as we speak) is telling me that this may just turn out to be a relatively important week in the redevelopment of our club....

Either that, or it is telling me that KFC Zinger burgers don't mix well with VB.... And if it so, then I shall find out well before Friday! HAHAHA!!! :P

Someone once described Trade Week as a bunch of blokes sitting around a table eating biscuits and waiting until Friday to try and fix the FAX machine.

But I like it.

It makes Demonland hilarious.

So must I. I usually enjoy YM's posts except when he says lock it in. I like the thinking, (his posts encourage some of the time), but generally enjoy his enthusiasm. I dislike the crap directed @ people who take a view out of the mundane orthodox.

going by some of the names being thrown around, some posters must think MFC are using trade week like a pooper scooper...... walking round behind other clubs pickin up their [censored].

HA!!!

Yep. Other peoples' scraps off their tables. Everyone's salivating over Prismall, and I speak to Cats supporters who say he's one-paced, can't mark overhead, and is yet another extractor with a bung knee!!!

I'd rather a shiny new draft pick... No disrespect to Brent.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
