Green put up for trade!

Brad Green now appears set to be offered up as trade bait, with contract talks coming to a complete stand still this week..

That is the report out of the club today, according to numerous people at the club, and in the media.

1 highly regarded journalist from the Australian even going as far to say that the demons are considering 2 offers that have been put to them by fellow victorian clubs already.

All I could get out of him was that the club showing the most interest was Essendon.

It now appears more likely by the day that Green may just move on, as the club is refusing to extend their offer to a 3 year term.

Although both parties are hopeful something can be worked it, time is of the essence, and the odds are now tilted towards Green departing.

A club official yesterday told some reporters off the record that the role of captain was not part of any current negotiations by either party.

Brent Prismall has now un-officially been offered a 2 year deal, with the option of a 3rd, pending performance, by the demons. The clubs comment on the matter has been simply "weve spoken to him yes, and he is currently weighing up his options".. Over 5-6 sources have re-affirmed that this offer is in place.

One Geelong reporter went as far to tell me today the Prismall has agreed to terms, and is confident a deal will be done in principle by early next week.

In other mumblings, Chris Johnson appears likely to be traded back to WA, with the Eagles seemingly showing the most interest, and Melbourne have placed a "not interested" sign above Jared Rivers' head, after receiving several inquiries regarding the Key defenders availibility.

Melbourne are also still very hopeful of being able to land Fremantle big man Robert Warnock, believing that they have the ability to offer Fremantle the best offer for the Ruckman. Reports also suggest that Warnock has told Fremantle that he will only deal with Melbourne and the blues, leaving Carlton as his no.1 destination, and the tigers out in the cold.

Disgruntled Hawk bigman Simon Taylor is believed to be another option for the club, with Taylor rumoured to of already asked to be moved on at seasons end.

Ryan O'keefe, the Key Sydney stalwart, has been made the subject of a big play by the Western Bulldogs, its believed he has been offered a 4 year multi million $$$ deal, even larger than the one the dogs unsuccesfully offred Russel Robertson Last year, this time however, the mail is that they may have their man this time.

Other players that may be looking for a new home are: Ashley Hansen, Brent Reilly, Farren Ray, Sam Butler, Leigh Fisher, Kane Tenace, Ed Barlow, Jason Davenport, Brad Fisher and Mitch Clarke.

Thats all the latest mail as of 8pm,

Nudge Out..

I just...

It doesn't quite make sense to me. There are so many reasons to keep Green and for Green to want to stay. Veterans listing to begin with. Possilbe B&F winner traded over one year on a contract?

And CJ out, just as he's getting some form and maturity, when his market value still hasn't moved up to match, and he's a frickin' father-son selection with good skills in a team crying out for skills?

In fact, two of our better skilled players leaving when skills are our number one issue just seems odd all over.

nudge, thanks heaps for the update

i really appreciate these comments

firstly: does that mean the club is not interested in rivers or not interested in trading him?

secondly: would anyone really want to give up a top 20 pick for robbie warnock

there is no way i would give up a top 20 pick for warnock OR prismall

yes, trade green if we get anything under pick 20: will not accept pick 24 from carlton if thats what we get offered

do not want that hawthorn bloke

i do not want recycled players

we cannot accept mediocrity

get draft picks/project players instead/with more age on their side

Yencks- Simon Taylor could be good for us- we don't have a ruckman! apart from PJ, who is better roaming forward or back

prismall and warnock i'd still take, psd is still an option for both. no deal has been done yet!

and carlton wouldnt want green nudgey said essendon

i reckon pies might be interested

oo i won't dump my membership because that's just being childish and chucking a tanty

but yeah, fair enough to say that bruce is in the same boat as green- however, green has more trade value.wouldn't be too sad to see either of them go, cos we know we'll be getting something decent for the future. draft picks

that's what we have to build this team around. unfortunately, anyone over 25 we should get rid of, but another unfortunately, is we cant get rid of them all in one year

If the Demons dump Green but keep Bruce I may not renew my membership.

Don't be so simple. Green is out of contract; Bruce has 2 yrs to go on his, probably at about $1.4m for the 2. Even if we trade Bruce, we will be up for some of the 1.4. Trading is not about keep him, dump him. It's about $'s and value given existing contracts.

We all know you don't like Bruce, but that's the way it is. Supporting a club is above individual players.

Couple of odd names in that last list (players whose clubs have put time into even though they've been injured a lot)

Ahh, you're a Demonland Offseason virgin.

Nudge has a wild imagination; he is the king of posting heaps and heaps of trade rumours that almost sound plausible but almost never turn out to be true. His posts should be read as fiction only.

Bailey got off to a great start by dumping that frontrunner Travis Johnstone.

He now has the chance to offload another overpaid marshmallow in Bruce.

But according to this thread, they are putting the gutsy and skilled Green on the trade table.

Sorry but that just doesnt fly with me.

Green has been 'gutsy' for one year IMO.

We do need to have a ruthless attitude and if something decent is offered for Green, I think we should take it. I am thinking around pick 20 would be fair.

I don't really care to watch us with Wheatley, Bruce and Green carrying the load if we finish last again.

reality is we will almost definitely be bottom 4 next year, so lets invest in the best young players we can find.

The Hawthorn model sounds good to me. get some tough skilled young players at almost any cost, then we can have a real tilt once they have a few years under their belt.

Wrong, he doesn't exaclt have a chance... it's not Baileys fault Daniher put Bruce on a massive contract.

If Bruce was to go we would recieve little for him because oh his age, and be paying a shitload of his contract.

I'm not a fan of Bruce but i'd rather keep him (unless we get any pick in the top 25).

Green and say a bundle of pick 35 may get us a pick in the 8- 16 region, which would be awesome for the club.

nasher, i have a lot of respect for you but in my second demonland off-season, i have still not read anything that nudge has written that has turned out to be untrue

he hears rumours from people and he updates us

in fact a lot of the stuff he has written this pre-season (eg club interest in alwyn davey) has had a lot of truth and he was the first person to mention it...

he admits that it is rumour and he hears it from people and that some of it is unnoficial so people shouldnt think everything 100% is going to happen...but i would rather hear these rumours than not hear them

he hears a rumour from whatever proffesion he has, and puts them here

i think the "fiction" comments are a bit harsh because he is admitting that they are rumours that he has heard

i dont think he makes anything up or anything of that sort

Would happily welcome Mitch Clarke, Brent Reilly, Adam Thomson and Brent Prismall!

Defintily do not want to depart with Chris Johnson. Big part of our future.

Trade Bell for either Reilly or Thomson.

Trade Miller or Petterd for Mitch Clarke.

Green, Sylvia, Bartram all tradeable!

Dont really want Warnock! Prefer Vickery with our Pick 1.

Like last year?

When I didnt hear anything much at all, thus, I DIDNT POST ANYTHING!

Go on, check..

Im just putting out what I hear, not making any outlandish claims, and Im not saying those players are on their way to the dees, just that they may be on the move..

I guess I just dont understand the negativety, ppl like to know this stuff, this time of year is crazy, clubs offering deals left and right, and yes, 99.4% dont come to fruition, but its interesting none the less..

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
