I'm not quite as hopeful as I'd like to be; if he doesnt name us as a preference specifically (and it sounds like he hasnt so far) then we're probably last in line. From Freo's perspective, they'd much rather deal with Carlton or the Tigers right now than deal with us- much more likely to get something good for him. If we get him, fantastic, but I wouldnt want to bank too much on it.

warnock to leave freo

From realfooty.com.au

why do my links never work???

Posted

I think Robbie would want to help freo get some compensation and i hope our pick 30ish is good enough.

If boxhead or Richo come flying in with their 1st pick, maybe 2nd, things could get murky as freo will want us to match it.

If we use pick 17 or 19, he will be a demon for sure. That included with the threat of PSD, i don't see how we're last in line.

This guy is a must get for the MFC. If we miss out on him i think that him and Judd both opting for other clubs will tell us alot about where this club is at in other players eyes.

And you need to be told ?

Carlton are clear favourites as we speak. Can we change his preference ? I hope so.

warnock and pick 3 for pick 1

a.davey psd

would be great in a perfect world!

Once again...

IS Alwyn Davey out of contract..?

Cos otherwise it'll be damn hard for us to get him in the PSD...

What makes you say that? Pratt's wallet?

When you consider that Pick 14 was good enough for Wood then 17 should be good enough for Warnock (still untried in my humble opinion).

What pick does Cartel have? about the 9 mark I think, would they be prepared to trade this for Warnock?

Posted

surely we will give them pick 1 for pick 3 and warnock(we dont lose anything because we still get watts)

then we still have 1 in psd and 3, 17, 19 national d

From realfooty.com:

Steve Icke:

"I think he's one of the more outstanding young ruckmen coming through.

"The fact he led Fremantle's ruck division for the latter half of 2007 (when Aaron Sandilands was out with a groin injury) and did it very well (was impressive).

"He's been in the system for three years now and he's been working with Aaron Sandilands which has been really good experience for him."

But the Blues face a tough task to secure the 206cm Victorian, who has also attracted strong interest from Melbourne, where his brother Matthew plays.

Warnock also shares a strong bond with former Dockers coach Chris Connolly, who is now Melbourne's football operations manager.

The Demons launched a brazen bid for Warnock's services in August, when Connolly, coach Dean Bailey and a group of players made a powerpoint presentation to Warnock, whose season had already ended due to a shoulder injury.

Melbourne collected the wooden spoon this season after notching just three wins, meaning they will have first pick in the pre-season draft and could pick up Warnock without having to compensate Fremantle.

Icke said Carlton were yet to decide what they could offer Fremantle for Warnock.

"There's probably no point even thinking about it until such time we find out about what his intentions are," Icke said.

---------------

Carlton know they're a long shot which gives me hope that we may actually achieve a win here. I'd be happy with Pick 1 for 3, we need a Watts or a Rich, let Freo develop Naitanui.

Watts. it doesnt matter if we have 1 or 3, we will be getting watts mate. Freo and wce won't touch watts if they have picks 1 and 2.

fingers crossed robbie comes to us

great, we still could have pick 1 in PSD!

This business about swapping pick 1 for pick 3 doesnt make sense.

The theory seems to be that since its such a sure thing that we want Watts, West Coast want Rich and Freo want Natanui, then we can swap picks with Freo as part of a Warnock trade and still get Watts. But even if it IS a sure thing (its not; regardless of their intentions right now Freo or WC could change their mind by draft day), then Freo must know that neither us nor WC are after Natanui, so they dont need pick 1 to get him, so the trade would give them literally nothing.

Am I missing something?

God i hope he picks us.

If he picks Carlton and from all reports they are the front runners now, i will be mad

No one is front runners..

Ive learnt over the years, with these things, you just never know, but I know we'll be the most keen, and do have an ace up our sleeve like NOrth did with the Rawlings chase..

I have a really strong feeling on this, but we'll just have to wait and see...

We WILL have 2 give up something though, Chris JOhnson has been mooted around add a pick to that i imagine..

I'd say we'll have to give at least a top 20 pick.. forget the Draft, it will be done via trade..

Just said the press release on SEN, asked the OX if he is coming to the melbourne demons and he said quite shyly- you would think so......

Yes, OX has thought this for a while..

I have a great feeling... a really great 1..

Blues wont land Warnock AND Kerr, and Kerr is their top target, so IMO its us and tigers..

We hold the Ace though..

while i understand what you are saying, and it does seem that way, i really believe that you cannot place that type of risk on 'what you think' or on what WCE, who will be getting shafted in this deal perhaps, say...

if we make this trade, we need to confirm with freo who they will take in the draft (preferably in writing) and we need to be happy with either of the other two, knowing we get warnock as well.

if freo want rich, and we dont want niknat, then this trade does not happen, even if we believe WCE will take nat leaving us watts, because there is the chance we get screwed.

also, has watts nominated? are nomination dates before or after trade week?

Posted
Am I missing something?

yes you are....

WCE want Naitanui and with all likelihood will take him with pick 2. By upgrading from pick 3 to pick 1 Freo get the opportunity to take Naita before WCE do.

Nonetheless this trade shouldn't happen. If Rich or Naita is genuinely the best player in the draft we should take him.

Last year, Kruiser was the 2nd,3rd or perhpas even 4th best player to be drafted. Carlton really need a ruck so they took him at pick 1. i'm not sure if i rate this highly... if Cotchin turns out to be a brownlow winner and Kruiser turns into a decent ruckman, how will carlton look????

I don't want to same thing to happen with Watts

Yes, OX has thought this for a while..

Big mouth OX is a little more sheepish about Warnock to MFC than he has been meaning......

How do you know? I would not put anything past Carlton. If they are in the game, its definite watch your cards and your money. I dont think Richmond offers a great ticket given the knives now moving around Wallet's back.

We hold the Ace though..

We hold a 2 of Clubs unless Warnock says he wants to come to MFC and agrees terms and we negotiate an attractive deal (from MFC's side) with Freo.

All Melbourne need to tell Robbie, is if he wants to be the no. 1 ruckman for his new club, he should pick Melbourne, as Kreuzer will be no.1 at Carltank for quite some time. Simple as that!

Listen Rhino..

Im really over your damn ridicule of everyones comments..

Instead of mocking everyone else, how bout u actually go out on a limb, and make a decent point of your own..

I know because I know, thats how.. OK

And we hold the Ace, im reffering to Having Matty Warnock.. which in terms of poker, means we have slightly better chance of winning the pot, but u never know..

But yes, we also can offer him no.1 Ruckman status right now, which is apparently high on his list of considerations..

Hows that Rhino, ok??? or do i need to PM u my posts 1st??

What and make them up like you do? I'd rather deal in the facts.

Lame. In other words you dont so I know you are blowing the breeze.

Its hardly a trump and Carlton may have few more.

Spare me.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
