CAMERON Schwab has firmed as Melbourne's next chief executive after the Demons were informed yesterday that Geelong chief operating officer Stuart Fox would not be applying for the job. Fox, who was on a short list of three for the vacant Melbourne position - the others being Schwab and Hawthorn chief operating officer Terry Dillon - informed the headhunting firm charged with recommending candidates on Sunday night that he was out of the picture.

disappointing Fox has withdrawn... I think the club should really pursue him harder if they think he is the man... really make him think about withdrawing his application...

Schwab still doesn't seem interested is the issue, it is fine to want someone but if they have given it no thought they don't want to do it...

Also from the article:

"Yesterday he reiterated those comments and said: "I haven't given it any thought. I need some clear time to weigh up what I do next, and whatever that role is, I want to focus on it for the next eight to 10 years." "

Schwab became the favourite for the CEO position weeks ago when Stynes publicly endorsed his application (e.g. here and here). The whole debacle is a bit "on the nose" if you ask me, and I don't mean in the betting sense.

I understand people's reservations with Schwab. But do you think Jim and the new board would employ him if he wasn't the right man for the job?

The question is, is Schwab the best man out there for the job? His lack of enthusiasm at this stage has me a little apprehenive about bringing him on board, he'd need to know that if he was to take this job, it would effectively be his life for a good 12 months while we stabalise the club.

He is probably not expressing too much of an issue because there is a process to go through and the last thing the club wants is to look like it has skipped the process to emply one of Gary/Jim's mates. Hoping Greg Healy might become available as well.

I may be wrong, or a numbskull, but there are only three options for Cameron.

1) Retire to a hobby farm and raise Angoras. (0%)

2) Land a cushy job at the AFL. (45%)

3) Stay in the cut and thrust and sharp end and get the adrenalin rush at Melbourne. (55%)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
