Essendon v Melbourne

Took the only two blokes that played infront of the ball last week and left them both out of the side (one through injury admittedly - although the "hamstring" virus appears to have spread from Green to Miller).

You'd have to think that Newton is on borrowed time with Bailey if he got the arse despite our only competent tall forward also missing out. Good to see Maric get another crack, despite a limited impact last week. If Daniher was still coach he would have been straight back to Sandy.

I never thought I'd say this at the beginning of the year, but thank Christ Green is back in.

If we don't win another game all year, I'd like us to win this one.

We will smash Essendon. I cannot believe their backline - Mal Michael and Dustin Fletcher will be in a world of trouble against our smaller forwards. On top of this, the loss of Lucas (who I rate extremely highly) for the Dons will spell disaster for their forward line. I think that Jones was dropped because of his lack of pace, which could have been exploited by the Dons' speedy midfield if he'd been kept in the side.

Miller's loss is pretty big, but his role can be covered well by Matthew Bate, so it should not pose a huge problem.

Demons by 45 points.

Colin Sylvia to kick 4

Matthew Bate to kick 3

Austin Wonaeamirri to kick 4

"I think that Jones was dropped because of his lack of pace, which could have been exploited by the Dons' speedy midfield if he'd been kept in the side." - Chook

Interesting. I also think that ("copping the most attention from other clubs through the middle" - Neita3000) has lowered his effectiveness & confidence, and has done some bodily damage as well. An opportunity to determinedly work back into the tempo will to wonders. On a semi related note, I'm becoming more and more impressed with our versatility even, as it is, in its infancy. DB on target.

All I can suggest is that very few of you take up poker !!! lol.. Seldom is anything what it seems...especially a footy team trying to try and yet trying to accomplish what they must !! If you dont get that...then you simply dont get what is going on ;)

Its about balancing longer term aspiration with short term jobs...all the whiles giving a handful a shot at either redemption..or a chance !!

Basically a juggling act with sherrins !!

Last time I checked Bell and Jones dont play the same position. Each player that has been sent to Sandy has been sent to work on a facet of there game.. Jones form has been mediocre at best and his high disposal games have been clanger city. It will not hurt him to get some relief at a lower level and work on aspects of his game. Each time this has happened this year the player has returned in better form/polish than prior to their departure.

Last time I checked it was regards to form. No one can tell me Bell is in better form than Nate Jones.

I wonder when Clint Bartram will get a spell in the 2s.

Because of the defensive side of their games? That's the only things I can think of...

This is the closest thing our side under Bailey has come to tanking.

Hardly.

Jones and Bell are two totally different players.

They've got Michael, Fletcher and Ryder in their team, we've just lost Miller and dropped Newton. I think PJ/Jamar will play forward, and Ryder will play on them, and then I guess Fletcher might go forward. So maybe Garland will play on Fletcher, Warnock on Lloyd, Martin in the forward line?

Im predicting a win. We just need everything to go right.

Bate needs to produce a performance similar to his against Sydney in Canberra. We also need some pace through the middle.

This is important, we have dropped 3 slow guys for 3 faster guys.

Wheatleys speed is seriously under rated.

Wona is quicker than we realise.

Green has solid pace.

I think we will see a midfield rotation that provides speed and endurance for most of the game.

Buckley might get a run purely because of his spped.

Davey will play midfield.

Mcdonald and Dunn will 100% play midfield their endurance and stopping ability will be needed against Hille and Watson.

Bartram might get a run as well.

Naturally we will also see Bruce/Green for a few stints.

I hope we [Essendon] don't have a late change.

Hey ash, love your work and all but I just can't get over the fact the you're one of them, What makes things worse is that your posts are mostly well thought out and accurate, I just don't understand how you could be part of the scum.

Lobotomy at an early age?

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
