I don't think anyone at the club would be considering trading a 20 year old with so few games and so much upside.

Although at the moment the names Garland, Warnock, Martin, Rivers sound like a solid backline we can't be sure. Injuries, lack of further development and it could all quite easily fall apart. Frawley has loads of potential and just needs a few years (that's right a few years) in the system to find his feet and his position. He grew quickly and would still be coming to terms with his size. Patience is not a strong point of Demonlanders. This yeam has developed alot this year but progress may well plateau over the next 1-2 years, as is often the case with young sides. It won't be until 2011-2015 that this team will be competing at the top. Frawley will quite likely be a big part of that. So will Colin!!(sorry, couldn't help but show my allegiance to Col)

Yes, more improvement next year. 2011-2015 is our next window. We should crack 30,000 members for sure next year.

I reckon we'll go close to 33,000 and we'll be carrying 3.5 million less debt. Things are on the up! Oh, and yeh, Frawley will be playng pretty well

Patience has to be balanced with the fact this is most likely the last draft that the talent pool won't be drained before we have any decent picks, regardless of ladder position.

I am not saying we must trade Frawley, just all options must be on the table to get the best result form this draft.

I cannot explain why but I see something in Frawley.

CJ Garland Frawley

M.Warnock Martin Rivers

Green Moloney Morton

Davey Miller Bate

Ozzie Watts Maric

PJ Jones McLean

R.Warnock Grimes Petterd Bruce

EMG: Robbo Sylvia Wheatley Valenti Buckley Dunn Bode Bartram Newton

Actually looks a solid side to me

What is with people making up these stupid sides...

Maric has only played at Sandy and you are replacing him for Robbo or Sylvia ???

Watts we haven't even drafted but will need a year or two too fill out (he is only 17) instead of Newton

R.Warnock we don't have yet and you don't have jamar or white as an emg

Grimes has played three games this year in Sandy reserves... he looks good but you have him ahead of Dunn, Batram and Valenti

You have a Warnock as a flanker instead of Wheatley

What the F*(k

Frawley has good pace and good size, but there are some concerns. He's a poor reader of the ball in flight, he spends too much time worrying about his opponent only to be easily out manouvred. Even smalls like Medhurst have made him look silly in a marking contest.

He has ability, but lacks footy smarts.

We could have had Jack Riewoldt. I wish we did. But Chip has scope for improvement.

This from a bloke who wrote off Garland after about round 2 this year. I am of the opinion that two teams would benefit from a direct swap. Hawthorn have a myriad of developing tall forwards, whilst we have a similar amount of developing tall backs. A win - win trade could be on the table, of course I'm thinking Thorp who has no chance in the current set up at Hawthorn.

Incorrect.

That said, I've put myself out there hundreds of times over the last 6 years and I could count on about 2 fingers the amount of times I might have gone too early, or regretted a stance.

Keep swinging, try hard.

That's because you're such a knowledgeable football brain and deadset legend

Do you think any of us are even the slightest bit impressed?

Go and get yourself a life sheesh

Have look mate, you will notice Green and Bruce are the only senior blokes there. You think maybe that indicates it is our side for a few seasons time? Maybe?

At that stage Robbo will be a fringe player, Sylvia just doesn't have it and if he doesn't improve he'll be traded or in the twos. Maric should be good.

Watts I would select over Newton right now given Newton is useless

RWarnock I hope we get, and if so there is no use for Jamar or White who both may well be off soon

Yes I reckon in 2-3 years I would be giving the last spot to Grimes over all of Bartram, Dunn and Valenti

Yes, Warnock is nearly better than Wheatley right now let alone in 2-3 years

Nobody that you have listed will be in the side in a few years except maybe Sylvia and Newton but they are both rubbish right now

PS Whelan will be gone then too

Apology accepted

If someone offered a 1st rounder in this draft you would have to consider it. With 3 first rounders we could target an extra mid or KPP forward.

The big if would be Rivers, if he doesn't come good it would be risky to trade Chip. Can someone fill us in if Cheeney and McNamara are simular types?

Cheney is a small, T Mc is a tall, McNamara has looked alright at times at Sandy.

T Mc is a tall

Or is he going to end up a little in-between? I get the feeling the coaching dept were secretly hoping for a little growth spurt after we drafted him. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

Frawley needs to be tried off a bank flank. Let him run! Gets beaten on one-on-ones too often in stationary contests. Will give the kid a chance though! Needs to bulk up and look at the ball at all times. But reminds me of Zac Dawson. No too good!

Posted

Frawley has put on 8kg since coming to the club. And will gain a lot more by the start of next year.

How long did it take Warnock to make it to this level?

Cant believe some people on here are asking for him to be traded around. What do you think we would get for him at the moment? I would say a late 2nd rounder at best.

Play Rivers forward. 50 goals a year.

Multiple orgasms.

No we had people crowing when we had Rivers, Carroll, Nicho, Ferg, Bizzell. Fool's gold. Its not the numbers, its the quality of the players. There is alot of promise in Garland, Martin and to a lesser extent Frawley and Warnock.

Just a thought if Rivers comes back fit in 2009 would anyone play him forward???

Yes I would

Great mark, great reader of the game and can kick

Bailey could try him there to see how he goes, but he looks a better reader of play down back.

I'd trade him if another club is keen enough.

Has not impressed me at all.

Just think it's interesting to go through some guys who didn't set the footy world alight early.

Of coarse, as was the same with Garland before him, and now Watts after him, there were 2 different camps.

Camp 1- realises that almost never do key position players influence games until 21 years old, and their body's are bulked enough for AFL footy. People in this camp can see 'elite characteristics' in certain players, like elite pace/agility, or marking or spoiling. These people aren't surprised when guys like Sylvia and Frawley start dominating games because they are able to see that quality is quality, even when they don't have the body to dominate.

Camp 2- judge players on a week by week basis, writing young players off far too early and being frustrated why a 19 year old is showing enough soon enough.

Which type of poster are you?

He is so important to our team, not only his defensive work on key forwards but his drive out of the backline. We really missed that last week.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
