Its Time to go.....

Anyone who wants to trade Green is stupid. Full-stop!

And as btdemon said - you have decided you want to trade anyone going well. Although, I do understand where you are coming from with Jones, he is young, committed and we can work around his deficiencies IMO.

And I think a lot of people on this forum have no understanding of how trading works. It's highly unlikely we will be involved in more than one or two trades in a normal year. This year, with a very good batch of U18s and GC17 coming in next year to plunder the draft in 09, clubs are going to be very very reluctant to trade.

Retirements - Neitz, finalised

--------------- Yze he must have recognised the games too quick for him now.

--------------- Holland writings very much on the walls

--------------- White I hope he's decided to go so we can give him a good farewell.

--------------- McDonald not sure yet, but with Green & Miller stepping up as leaders & McLean, maybe don't need Junior so much.

McDonald won't/shouldn't retire. the rest...yeah probably

Yeah I know, but we have to make space on our list to recruit this year from the U/18's & to have a crack at RWarnock.

Id like to think there will still be room for Junior to add depth next year. Probably only next year..but he is terrific. Others can learn from him.

Retire - Yze, Whelan, J Mac & White (If not traded)

Trade - White (hopefully will have wither Warnock or Natanui to fill the gap), Wheatley (not as good as people seem to think), Bruce (still has some value), Carroll

Delist - Weetra, Messon,

Promote - Wooz & Valenti

Captain - Brad Green with VC Jonsey & Bruce if still on list

What about Brock.

I would much rather see Brock and Green co-captains.

I think its something the club could really promote. Having two young players as club captains.

Newton has ability, absolutely no doubt about it.

What Newton doesn't have is the attitude to make it at this level, as far as I can see anyways.

Above the shoulders he is weak, he has clear selfish tendencies and he doesn't work hard enough.

The contrast between Miller and Newton is huge. Newton has more natural talent, but Miller works incredibly hard and puts in all game long even when the delivery is crap and the ball is not coming his way. That's why Miller will still be playing into his late 20's, but Newton probably won't make it beyond next season... and I desperately wish he would.

Sign up Newton for the next 5 years, while we can get him cheap.

Tall lquick eading forwards who can take contested marks are hard to find.

Newton has just turned 21 and is at an age where he will start to improve at`a rapid rate.

Newton was bottom age when recruited and is coming on as expected.

I cannot fathom the morons on this site that want to get rid of him.

Who do you propose we replace him with?

I see a future forward line of the following:

HF: Miller Watts Davey

For: Sylvia Newton Wona

Bate and Maric as back up support.

As for trades, i would put up for trade Frawley, Bell and Bruce.

All three have some value.

Bell is the only one i would keep if we couldn't get something decent for as if he eventally gets his head right he could be a gun.

Frawley is now surplus to our needs and is well and truely behind Garland, Warnock, Rivers and Martin as tall key backs.

Bruce isn't in our future plans. Trade him now for anything while we can.

I agree definitely with Bell and Bruce.

Frawley a possibility, although I am reluctant to trade a young key back taken with pick 12 in just his 2nd season. However, he looks to be a very limited footballler unfortunately.

some very strange suggestions and opinions in this thread for sure.

regarding newton: i have only seen the first half of the game (had to get to work, and the other half is on tape for tomorrow) but from what i saw never did he get good delivery, a number of times did he look to chase, attempt to tackle and put pressure onto the player with the ball. he was obvously instructed to play deep, with miller and co pushing up the ground. in the first half, how many times did the ball get past the 50? no wonder newton wasn't seen much...yes he has stuff to work on, but if davey and mclean were playing would the disposal to him have been better?

and on that point i move on to jones.

lets first remember some facts about jones. he is 20. he has played less than 50 games. he is a tough, hard, in and under midfielder. he is not a silky outsider finisher, and it shows in his disposal. he obviously has a lo to learn, and has a number of areas he can work on in his game, especially disposal.

but, if you were someone who bagged jones' game today, id like you to tell me who our number 1 midfielder was today (not best on) and the answer is probably jones. he led that mifield today and struggled hard for it all day. when you add brock and davey to the midfield, jones falls down the pecking order. he gets less attention and he can be more effective.

he is just a kid. and he stepped up and threw his heart and soul into it today, never said die and didnt shirk the issue. ever. what more can you ask?

I thought Newton was good today. Would have had close to 10 marks?

He is a natural aerialist, no doubt about it.

JUICE--- Not got enough, too slow, poor decision making, no 2nd efforts. Good mark but thats it, clearly not up to AFL level, and has had his chances to show what his made of... Dont like lazy footballers, his work rate is poor!!! Get rid of him...

No way. You can't say that based on today's game. There was barely a forward 50 entry in the first half. Prefer to wait and see. Remember it was his first game back from injury and niggles.

Must be persisted with.

He took 4 contested marks today: I think that is a good sign.

Has ability and hopefully over the coming weeks we will all see it.

4 contested marks is what we need. If you look at the stats at some games this year, that number is usually our total for the whole team.

I would be interested to know how many inside 50's we had yesterday. Does anyone know?

So not only was the quality of ball inside 50 poor, but the total supply was also low.

Newton took 8 marks, including 4 contested.

Pretty damn good for his first game back in the seniors since Rd 1.

The Bulldogs only had 5 contested marks for the whole game.

Dare i say it, but Newton, in my very humble opinion, has the potential to be a more dominant Key Forward than Neita.

Alot of backmen have limited games but at this stage his development has been excellent. He's had some big jobs this year and done some well.

Things like Skill and Strength which are his weaknesses can be worked upon.

I can't beleive anyone would think of writing off Frawley at this early stage. Garland ring a bell anyone?

From all reports Frawley was well beaten on the weekend for Sandy.

He is surplus to our needs.

Trade him while he still has value for something we need like draft picks or some pace in the midfield.

I can`t believe the lack of intensity Newton shows... Such a hack.. How long do we gota give this guy?

He's a total waste of space. There is no room for improvement in this kid. Seriously. I'd rather have Carroll or White playing instead of him, because gives absolutely nothing and there's no positivity coming from him being in the seniors.

Newton has no real future.

he may be good in the air, but no afl player can expect to be successful when he is completely useless once the ball hits the ground.

i dont like Newton at all i see very little if any promise in him becoming a good afl player

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
