Who should be our top recruiting target??

Bear in mind what we would have to give up, ie: more 4 prismall than Rosa..

Posted

Does he have the skills to become a handy forward if needed?

I wouldn't want to pick up an inflexible ruckman

Prismall is out of contract. Cats will get what they can to trade him.

Warnock will be a dee next year. Ox on the radio couple of weeks ago seemed to suggest he had inside knowledge and it was pretty much deal done

No one other than Warnock, and only then if we can get him in the PSD for very little.

We are not in any sort of premiership window. We are re-building with youth and developing the AFL's youngest list. From 2009 early draft picks will be at a premium with the advent of the Gold Coast, so this year is a premium. We should be looking at maximum drafting of quality young players through the National Draft, trade out and/or retire all the remaining list cloggers (including the player who is the subject of your avatar).

We certainly shouldn't be recruiting any other club's second-string cast-offs or expensive prima donnas.

I don't want to pay much for him either, but don't underestimate his upside. It's massive.

We should be looking at cast offs if they are from the most dominant team in the game. The cats have had little injuries, meaning some of their fringe players would be very handy to have, and given the cats lack of cap room, you would think they would come at a bargain price.

Warnock is the main target. He will come cheap, and he has lots of development left, making him a very handy prospect.

I don't know that it's "massive". It's certainly a lot better than our current stocks, and it depends on how much importance you place on a lightish tap-rucking bean pole with some ability to be a forward presence, compared to our present lot who don't seem to be a resting forward's bootlace.

Then it depends on what we need to offer. Of course getting him out of contract with PSD 1-2 would be nice, but would you trade away, say, ND pick 17-20 to ensure the deal?

Prismall would be better for us than warnock.

We already have a good crop of young midfielders.

McLean, Jones, Grimes, Maric, Petterd, Dunn, Bartram, Sylvia and even Moloney.

Nah, it's massive. He's 206cms (although it's been stated elsewhere he's now 207cms) and weighs 94 kg. He's put on 20 kilos since arriving at the club. His playing weight in a year or two will be 100+ kg. He's very skilled and athletic for a player of his height plus he has tremendous running ability. He also gets plenty of possessions around the ground for a young ruckman. He's 21 and only in his second year of AFL football.

As stated, the upside is massive.

I voted for Prismall.

The way i see it is, one way or the other we need to get either Warnock or Prismall via PSD.

Obviously for mine it would be Warnock, as both WC and Freo would not draft him in the PSD (if they finish below us), because why would they draft a guy that doesn't want to play for them. Plus both teams will no doubt draft Natanui and Rich if given the chance.

If Freo draft Natanui, that covers the loss of Warnock. That way we get Warnock for next to nothing with our PSD pick. That leaves us with getting Prismall. Geelong would want a pick. I'd offer Melbourne's 3rd rounder or a mid 2nd rounder if we trade a player to another club.

Simple as that!

He did it again today..

Hope he is right!!

For me a tough choice between warnock and prismall, but in the end went for warnock

1. Warnock- 51%

2. Prismall- 49%

Yes, I heard that too. It doesn't mean that it's an absolute monty to happen though. There is alot of water to pass before he is signed. But he does want to return to the sporting Capital, and he prefer to play with his brother...if possible.

For the Record, I think we would give up less by getting Warnock than a Prismall. But Prismall I think will stay at Geelong. He is a back-up at present for their midfield. With Ablett and Ling out this week, Prismall will play.

While Ox may think Warnock is coming to the Dees, I heard on MMM that Warnock would be at Richmond.

It was while a Freo game was being covered from over in the West - not sure who the commentator was, but might have decent mail, being over there.

That's interesting... as it stands now, with the ladder, I'd prefer to be in Melbourne's position than the Tigers. They can join the queue however and try their luck. Who are some of the WA boys in the Tigers line up?

Pettifer? :lol::lol:

Heard that too. He's a WA commentator who SEN uses when they travel west. I think its Tim Gossage?

Richmond won't get him in PSD but if Richmond put in a bid with draft picks, that could force our hand.

Warnock. That said, if we get Prismall I would be just as happy. We certainly need a skilled mid just as much as any other type of player, a 206cm AFL ready ruck is a real rarity though so we should do everything possible to make that happen.

It will ultimately just be a matter of what can we orchestrate rather than who do we prefer. The likelihood of pulling off 1 trade let alone 2 is already slim.

Not interested in speculative trades such as Boyle or Murphy. Neither have shown any worth at AFL level as yet.

Posted

i reckon we should try to get another draft pick in the top 15 and draft Tyron Vickery.lol. I've only seen him play once, but seemed very agile for a 200cm ruckman. reminded me of david hille, can go forward and is a good tackler around the ground. if someone knows more about him, i'd be keen to know his weaknesses

Posted

He'll go top 10.

And it will be basically impossibe to trade for a top 10 pick this year.

Unless we want to part with Green or McLean.

I'm pretty sure that that was a fair while back. Much water to go under the bridge and I very much doubt that he'll do a Ju$$ and demand Richmond.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
