Fridays should be Demons Day

Having spent a couple of enjoyable years in Townsville where every Friday was Tropical Friday and the wearing of a Hawaiian shirt was the done thing (all in the name of fun), I have the idea that every Friday, through the footy season at least, should be Demons Day.

The way I imagine this would be every Friday we wear either a Melbourne scarf, tie, beanie, jacket etc to and from work or have a scarf hanging out the car window etc.

I'll be kicking this off this Friday morning by wearing my Melbourne scarf on the Belgrave line to work in the city, Flagstaff station, and back again.

I'll also be encouraging as many Dees supporter freinds to do the same.

There has been a recent rise in Dees gear on TV with Ernie and Coxy recently showing our famous colors to the TV viewers of Oz and we should follow suit.

Hopefully I'll see some Dees colors on the train this Friday.

Cheers

I have been doing this for the last few years whilst living in Adelaide and have never been more proud than the day a young boy came up to me on the train and said "My Dad barracks for the Crows and he makes me as well, but when I grow up I am going to barrack for the Demons because I like Flash & Aussie".

The boy would've been no older than 6 and he was on his way to private school for the day.... You should've seen the smile on his face when I replied "Well this is the 2008 membership scarf and I want you to remember the day you became a true Demon supporter"..... as I put the scarf around his neck! "Keep it in your bag and put it in a safe place until you are ready to tell your Dad" I said....

One of the greatest days of my life that was!

Wow that's so cool, almost tear Jerking. There is still life in the demon yet. Austen has been the recruit of the year no worries

Just a reminder to anyone interested that tomorrow is Friday Demons Day. So if you can scarf it, tie it, beanie it or even flag it for the day it would be great

I work in Chapel Street and the increase in the amount of people I see wearing Melbourne scarves since our win against Brisbane is amazing!

Funny, the number of expensive cars with Melbourne stickers in Brighton (where I work), has remained the same :lol:

If I was allowed to I'd wear my Melbourne scarf to work and convince all the rich snobs that annoy me to spend less money on unflattering clothes and more money on the MFC.

Well, I'll just add it to monday through thursday.

Actually, I give it a rest once or twice a week, just so people at work know that I'm making a choice to wear the scarf, not just tossing it on every bloody morning.

Anything that boosts our visibility and makes it easier for us to spot and celebrate eachother's commitment to the club is good.

Mate. Every day's a demons day for me. I have 3 scarfs and a gurnsey in my car, as well as the stickers. Melbourne is a cold place and I always wear my scarf when it's cold.

The boy would've been no older than 6 and he was on his way to private school

Private school? Any chance we could get him in the new 150 club? Seems like demons supporters DO have a type, even when they're from another state. And they don't even have any snow in SA... do they?

Well done though KrazyJay. The story sums up so many things, not the least of which the kind of selflessness required from us if our club is to be great again.

That said, could you imagine if some guy slipped your son a crows scarf, or shock-horror, a pies scarf? He may as well try to make out with your wife... I can't think which is the worse line to cross....

You're a true demon KJ.

For all my uni exams i did a few weeks ago I donned the 98 melbourne jumper (The one made by canterbury). It's a long sleeve and cause of those chilly mornings in the exam room, it's the only thing i'm proud to wear while keeping myself warm.

I didn't see any other Dees colors on the ride in this morning as I Dees scarfed it all the way to Flagstaff, I know they're out there somewhere

I was lucky enough to have my Dees supporter status woven into the ever changing & booming limerickish lyrics of the Flagstaff Doggies supporting Big Issue seller as I strode past. Cheers to him for his merry ways.

I have to say I have enjoyed the first half of Friday Demons Day

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
