If it has been posted here, I haven't seen it yet. Thanks mate, much appreciated.

No worries :)

Ye, it was only posted on the AFL website today.

Yeah Watts looks a clear standout. WOuld love to get him. Just hope we get pick 2 or 3 so we dont 'have' to get Naitanui

He has that basketball 'hang time' when he jumps for a mark. He's at the top of my wish list. If we get Watts and say a Walters or Stephen Hill with our second, I'll be grinning ear to ear.

After looking at the tape of both Watts and Rich...................i was more impressed by Rich!

Booming kick & tackling is impressive.

Would definately take him over Watts

Although that last pack mark from Watts was great

Posted

looks like Rich has a good brain & will be a star, but I think we need a full potential watts more.

dam do the people who have the final call on who we pick have some pressure on them, one of the top 3 this year will end up a mega star, and another 2 could flop badly!

On a horses for courses basis Watts would be better suited.

Maric, Grimes, McLean, Valenti etc etc etc can all play in the midfield but Newton aside there's not really anyone on the list atm that looks capable of being a 6'3" + marking forward.

Can't rely on the smaller guys to kick goals every week (which is why the Bulldogs are much better with Hahn returning from injury, Welsh and having Hudson/Minson up forward)

I know what you mean Bingo. However i think because of a lack of Tall forwards that we will target Watts.

yesterday I was leaning toward Watts.

But after weatching that Natanui video I am back on the bandwagon.

What a freak.

i really want us to get a quality key forward who can take contested pack marks, i think we need that a lot, but you are right. that video looked scary...

Just had a look at the vids again. Lewis Johnston looks amazing. Great kick, Great Hands I'm surprised know one has mentioned his name.

Watts reminds me of a young David Schwartz in the way he takes a mark.

But Naitanui is freaky...his reflexes and attack on the man with the footy are amazing.

.

If he is as good as the pre-knee 1994 Schwarz, the MFC rebirth will be well and truly underway.

I don't care if he can't kick. The fact that most people have Rhys Palmer as rising star favourite should tell you how much weight kicking ability holds at these boys' age. If you're a beautiful kick, well and good, but it is definitely something that you can improve in a season or two (Daniel Cross anyone?). Niknat is a NikNUT. A disgustingly good athlete for his size. Rich also looks impressive, but something about him screams SYLVIA (can't quite put my finger on it though).

Watts appears to have nice hands - that pack mark against 3 Vic Country opponents was a beauty. Seems like a contender, but at this stage, it's Niknat by a dread.

Posted

Nik Nat for me, there is no way that someone with that size and athletic ability couldn't be developed into an Adam Goodes or Buddy Franklin. I would love to see him take marks like Watts though. Rich strikes me as a bit of a Dylan Smith (former pick 6 who had stints at Freo and Nth).

Nik Nat also speaks well and appears to have a good head on his shoulders.

Posted

I don't mind McKernan... Looks a class above, but would his skill set translate?

Posted

I was looking at McKernan also, he looks the goods, and has a good solid build already which may speed his progress up.

NikNat's attack on the footy and athleticism is impressive, Rich knows how to find it, but I'd like to see how quick he is as I think the Dees need a bit more pace through the midfield.

Watts looks like a solid option also. It's a tough call for mine at this stage.

Except both those were drafted with outstanding football brains wheres Natanui is coming from a fair way behind in that regard

Some points I took away:

Natanui!!! His attack on the ball carrier is breathtaking, like a huntsman spider attacking prey. Ruck tapwork is good, but his pace and agility look amazing, the new Adam Goodes, if he can just get his fundamental skills up to scratch he's gotta be a big shout for number one.

I'm looking primarily at the talls and was very impressed with McKernan's size, long kick, marking ability and pace. Almost the complete package there.

Watts does look good, but didn't see anything that put him clearly in front of anyone else on that video.

Rich is Libba with a Shaun McManus wig! Very nuggety but I very much doubt this kid's going to be picked in the top two. His size is a big concern for mine.

Sidebottom looks pretty mobile for a big man as well. Love ruckmen that can cover ground and take contested marks, looks an ideal replacement for Jeff White.

Wish they'd show more of the kicking skills of some of these players.

Here's my priority list

1. Nick Nat

2. Watts or McKernan (couldn't split them based on that evidence)

4. Sidebottom

5. Rich

If we could pick up two out of that list in the draft, I'd be thrilled to bits.

Paul Cahill from SA looks like a good tall as well. Good overhead and great speed.

Agreed. I like the look of him - perhaps an early second rounder?

Is he related to Jack Cahill who coached Port Adelaide?

Did you make that list by watching 2 mins of footage?

I myself can’t wait to watch all the televised games on Wednesday

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
