From the above article:

STYNES' TICKET

Guy Jalland LLB: Sydney-based with strong media executive background including his current role with Consolidated Press Holdings. Life-long Demon fan.

Stuart Grimshaw: Experienced banking and financial services executive, currently group executive of Premium Business Services.

Peter Szental: Founder and owner of the Szencorp Group, focusing on water and energy efficiency solutions for the built environment.

Don McLardy: Highly experienced executive with an extensive history at Melbourne Football Club.

David Thurin: Managing director and owner of Tigcorp, which runs retirement communities. Has a medical background and is a long-time Demon supporter.

Russell Howcroft: Chairman and chief executive of the advertising agency George Patterson

apparently there's also a mystery 8th member. time wil tell.

So far ...so good.. now we just await the plan. Word has is par tand parcel of the new way forward are new Sponsors.. and more of them. This is a definite requisite and quite frankly an underachievement to date, with all thanks to Primus , Volvo etc..we just need more. Im interested in teh preseason membership initiatives. Hell i'm just interested to find out about it all.

That is one of the most heartening articles I have read about the Melbourne Football Club in a long time!

I am damn sure we are in for some exciting times over the next 12-24 months....

Good luck to all involved and may you bring our mighty club back from the depths to once again be a force to be reckoned with!

:D :D :D

does anything make this board any more qualified than the existing board? not having a dig just interested..

also i put my money on the 8th member being garry lyon, or someone very big like a don argus. the other member will be the big card.

Although I disapprove of the way in which the existing board members have been treated in this process, it is certainly a relief to read those names!

If Stynes and his group can present a good plan for the club to the board tonight it looks as though this will indeed be a "seamless takeover."

It also, looks like the club will be in pretty good hands, although I can't help thinking that there is a place for Phillips.

Here's hoping that Stynes will heed the advice of current board member Michael Coglin and "retain Phillips, for his expertise, experience and continuity, given that the club already had installed a new coach, new chief executive and could have a largely new board."

After all - It's not like it would cost anything to keep him!

My only concern with Stynes is he has made no mention of the Stadium situation as yet (unlike Paul gardiner who had indicated that a Boutique stadium could be on the cards).

It is all well and good to try and increase supporters and members, but we have the lowest supporter base of approx 200,000 and the higest conversion rate of supporters to members (which I would like to point out means that Melbourne supports are not fairweather, there just aren't that many of us).

It will take a long time to to increase the supporter base. However a change to our stadium situation could mean millions in increased revenue which could be instigated in the short to medium tern, this is the single biggest off field issue we face at the moment.

it depends on the plan that put forward and how they carry it out.

I am concerned who the 8th member is unsure or reluctant to commit to the cause. A "name" will get you so far. Its what they can commit to the Board.

Your onto something Deanox. But it wont be Garry.

It was mentioned in the article that he couldnt get them all together at short notice. One of your mentioned names is a very busy man.

Also, there are no Pratts. However, their spare change from one week of spending could wipe off our debt considerably.

:)

I have it on very good authority that the new board members if elected are going to contribute $'s from their own pocket as a sign of how fair dinkum they are. It won't be enough to clear our $4m debt, but should get about 10-15% of the way there. I believe we will see new sponsorships as well.

More should be revealed tonight.

2million $$ contribution is what i keep hearing

there is a thread about the dollars on demonology. Someone RobbieF knows has kicked in $200k and has joined the 150 club after a phone call from Jimmy Stynes.

Is fact as well although names cant be mentioned not just made up like some stuff on the net. RF is my old man and I know who he is talking about. This guy was offered a spot on the ticket but does not want it at this stage.

I think its bloody marvellous that anyone kicks in some money. Thankyou.

( Do I dare raise the cusiosity of why now ? I know thats pandoras box.. but curious )

Anything that deals with the crappy interest we're paying and retires debt is brilliant news.

I guess the Footy show will be compulsory viewing tonight.

No need to mention names but one of the list is a Gandel ( almost as good as a Pratt or Smorgon )

Apparently he is worth 1.8 Billion.

I would say that Gandel is on par with Pratt and Smorgon.

Do we get a discount at Chadstone if we're Melbourne members?:lol:

It's good that we can finally have some names to work with. As raised before, the current board does have some very good credentials too, so it's going to be interesting to see what these men can bring to the table in terms of money, sponsorship, unity and progress. I like that we've got an advertising guy in there to replace Gardner. I think promotion is a very weak area when it comes to the MFC and that has to be rectified.

Whats that! Free Willy (FREE MASON), Is big willy comi'n to town?:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

There's a Freemason's private hospital. Maybe to save money we're getting a deal done with said hospital, given that half our list is in and out of doctors on a regular basis

We could save thousands in medical bills and groin tablets :P

$200k?

Holy hell. If I send a thank you card to the club, do you think they could forward it.

BIG credit to the guy, not only for the sizable contribution but also for getting the ball rolling. It doesn't take many people 'kicking in' at that scale to make a HUGE and RAPID difference.

Also suggests the Stynes-mobile is getting good traction early.

I like the team, I like it a lot.

Dad has been on this blokes back for ages to join the 150 club and to kick some of his sizeable fortune into the club. He has had other priorities in his life of late, and just didn't think that in the past they were on the right track. I guess guys like Stynes just have a certain knack at getting money from people who would not otherwise get involved.

I think that'd be a massive part of it for most people.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
