Jack Grimes

Has anyone heard where Jack Grimes is at?

Talk was some weeks ago he'd be up to speed by about now.

Last I heard they were putting him through his own personal pre-season before they bring him back onto the list, as he didn't do one with the main group.

While Valenti is still getting a game you'd think he might still be a while off although I have a feeling Valenti may get dropped this week. Will wait and see.

Grimes, along with Rivers, were the guests at the aftermatch function, so it was good to get a first listen to the kid who everyone at the club appears impressed with. He spoke fairly well, and mentioned that he'd started almost all of the training now, and would be back 'in a couple of weeks'. He was disappointed he didnt get a chance to play a game with David Neitz, given that his team he supported before being drafted was Melbourne, he said he was incredibly nervous walking into the locker room wiht all his boyhood idols. Said he was a midfielder and sometime half back player, so not sure where the club plans to try him out when he's fit. Can't wait to see him in action...

I'm not 100% sure how the rookie list thing works, but Grimes was replaced on the list by Aussie. And Neitz was replaced by Valenti. So i think if he returns, he takes Aussies space. Again someone might be able to clarify better but thats the way I believe it works...

Thanks DD for that, good read.

I'm sure they would be able to swap it round so Aussie stays on the senior list.

One would think Grimes would need a few games at Sandy before being considered for senior selection. That being the case there is a good chance we can place an older player on the LTI (should one get injured or require surgery to be ready for next year) or have Holland/Yze retire to free a spot on the senior list for Grimes.

Iv'e heard that he will be playing for Sandy very soon. Probably not this week but the one after.

It's terrible that Robbo got injured but because he is out for the season that means that Wona and Valenti can both stay on the senior list when Grimesy comes back.

Got news from one off his mates mums, she told me that his lower back is better, but still about 6 weeks

away, but he will play this year.

Get him right before we play him, last thing we need is for him to have a recurring problem for the next 12 months as well.

why dont we just seriously rest him for the whole year? dont kno why he has to play this year after a long back injury

There's no point resting him if he's good to go, that will just delay his development. I agree that there's no point playing him unless he's 100% though.

Even if he's 100% fit but doesn't have much match fitness up I'd like to see him get two or three games at the end of the year, just to get a feel for the pace and intesity of AFL footy. Give him something to aim at and build around for 2009.

the last thing we want is for one of our young guns to miss a preseason - look at syliva.. he is yet to complete a full preseason!!

would like to see him but he is a 10 year player for this club, so why set his career back in a year where there is nothing to be gained except the number 1 draft pick and of course blooding our youngsters!!

i would rather see maric, stef martin, etc play...

Nasher- Can you or anyone else clarify this?

The rules I have seen pertaining to rookies specifically say they can be elevated to replace "long term injured players".

No mention of retirements.

I also thought I heard one of the journalists (may have been Caro) mention this.

If so did this mean that Valenti wasn't dropped, but went back to the rookies when Neitz retired?

Immaterial now with Robbo's injury, but will interesting if Grimes comes back.

It all depends on just how bad the back is and whether playing Grimes is a significant risk or not.

If he's fit then I'd rather we play him [even if sparingly] as we need to know what we've got in young Grimes as it could make a significant impact on what cards we play come PSD and draft time.

And yes I'd love to see Maric & Martin in action at some point this year [for much the same reasons as above].

Neitz and Robertson are both injured long-term. Neitz has't just decided to throw in the towel. If we wanted to just pension off an Yze because we felt he isn't worth playing anymore, we couldn't promote a rookie.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
