There is no point us winning 6-7 games and getting pick 3 etc and finishing 14th....

We need the big Fijian for a couple reasons....

He will be a very good player and has potential to be for us what Buddy is to Hawthorn

Marketing, despite finishing last, the Big Fijian will be a great marketing tool and members will jump on

We wona spoon back in the late 90's.. unlike some clubs who havent won one for years its not such a big deal.

Bailey knnows the club will back him so the spoon wont eman he gets the sack...

I still dont think we are good enough to tank... Unlike Carlton last year who were good enough to win some of those later games but chose to tank......

just make sure that the big Fijian is is Melbourne colours next year....

I don't think the club is losing any corporate support at all. These deals are generally signed for a 2 to 3 year contract and any negative movements will be quickly replaced if we go into a new season having just acquired a couple of gun kids in the November and pre-season drafts. Added to that a list that would be much more confident than what we had this year.

I agree.

As you point out, there are recent examples we can point to when sponsors cite our on-field problems as reason for bailing.

No Carroll, Wheatley ...

Wheatley's got plenty of seasons left in him.

We have to continue looking at the horizon and make sure that we maintain our team is predominantly young.

On Sunday we had 4 teenagers, 3 20yr olds, and 8 between the ages of 22 and 24.

No free games to the younglings but we must keep the 27 and over crowd to a maximum of 8 (Wheatley, Green, Bruce, Robertson, White, and McDonald are immovable. Yze and Holland would have to be considered long shots for an extended run, and Carroll, Neitz, and Whelan would be somewhere in the middle).

If we win games so be it, but we must keep our focus on 2009 and beyond (maybe more focused on the 'beyond' than the 2009).

How about, win 12 out of the next 15, cementing 6th and win through to at least a semifinal in Neita's last year.

Spoon is off-field suicide for this club.

Lets not get carried away here.. Don't get me wrong, it was a sensational comeback and win. BUT, lets not be blinded over one game.. We still need to sweep the floor with alot of players.

We'll be lucky to win 4 games this year.. Write it off and go for draft picks!!

Hypothetically, if we somehow scraped into the Eight, but got destroyed in Adelaide or something in the first elimination final, would people here be upset at another random finals appearance from a team that obviously has no chance at winning the flag? I know I wouldn't. For me, the feelings I had leaving the ground on Sunday are why I barrack for the Demons. I personally could handle us never winning the Premiership again as long as I could still feel what I felt that day. For me, the journey, the hope, is worth more than the destination. I would never condone "playing for draft picks." That is tantamount to cheating in my book, and totally against why I go to the footy. I go to watch us win games of football, whether it be five in a year or one. Am I crazy? Maybe.

What I want ( not necessarily what I think will happen)

Win the next 15 straight to finish 16-6 which would see us top 4...I think

Win our first final to get a week off.....

Then another resounding win in the Prelim

Then Grand Final glory.

YAY.

Ahhhh What a Dream.

I was going to watch the dees youtube video again but my wrist is sore.

Thats crazy. Write off the season and lose a cool million doing it?

You guys are so focussed on a high draft pick bringing about immediate success on and off the field, whether thats Natanui or not. He may be marketable, he may bring supporters back to the club, but we will go backwards in doing so.

Win as many as we can and restore the pride in the jumper. We have asked for that for so long haven't we?

Get our hands on Pick 1 or 2. Doesn't matter which one. Rich and Naita look the goods, one of the other would be very handy. Would love Naita, but do not want the spoon on our record books.

Would like to see another 4 wins. (against collingwood, hawthorn, essendon, carlton) Not going to happen, but would be nice.

Posted

Basically. 4 wins, tiges and blues (and preferably everyone else) to win more games.

I usually like the idea of NOT winning a spoon, but given the soon-to-be future, we're going to need the priorities...

Posted

Yea I've gotta say sorry guys. I see arguments for both winning and losing but geez if I didn't love watching that game. Screamed til my throat was sore (voice just came back today), met Barrass outside the ground (It was amazing) followed by many beers over the bridge at transport and a kick around fed square. I'll take the 15 wins. Sure it won't happen, we may only get 14 wins, but no matter how good any kid is I will not sacrifice that feeling that I get by seeing the guys in victory.

Posted

And beating the snot out of North in round 17. Never known of a more irrelevent club in the AFL.

4 wins would be ideal from a draft perspective, as we'll be entilted to concessions next year.

I personally think we'll win 6 games and finish 14-15th.

Let me be blunt. I don't care if your beer tastes like [censored] for the rest of the year, I want us to build for a REAL TILT at a flag in 3 or 4 years.

The plan according to the Goldenmonkey.....

Players- play with the same guts and determination you showed in the second half on sunday every minute of every game you play. In short PLAY LIKE DEMONS

Dean Bailey- If fast flowing footy with quick delivery to forwards is part of the game plan, fantastic job. If not, Why not? It works.

Supporters- Hold on tight because if the above happens Melbourne WILL be a finals contender this year.

We are only 3 games out of the finals. Other than Geelong, Hawthorn and the dogs it is a tightly run finals race this year. Melbourne can make a finals push, we have had similar losing streaks before mid season and still made the finals, I can't exactly remember which year, either 2005 or 2006.

The players have their confidence back, this was all that was missing from the Demons winning formula. Now it's back, the rest of the pack better watch out........

THE DEMONS ARE ON THE LOOSE!!!!

Posted

There is nothing better for the club, long term & short term, but to win the Flag. I want the flag and i want out team to play the way they did Sunday for the rest of the season.

Posted
To be competitive, have pride in wearing the jumper and to win as many games as we can!!!!

WIN 4 AND NO MORE

With the two new teams entering the draft system if we don't get the good picks now we are royally screwed!

Posted

Adelaide away, Hawthorn, St.Kilda at the dome, and Collingwood.

We will be 1 and 10 (maybe 2 and 9 with QB) heading into a game against Richmond at the dome (tougher than many people think).

Then Sydney at Manuka, the Lions at the G, Dogs at the Dome, Freo over there, and North. Maybe the Lions could be a W.

Essendon should be a W, then Geelong, WCE at the G, Port Away, and then Richmond at the G.

I think we might beat Collingwood, Brisbane, North, Essendon, WCE, and Richmond.

But if we play like we did in the 26 qtrs before the last two, we will beat only Ess, WCE, and Richmond in Rd 22. Sadly this option is our path to a reward (priority pick.18).

WARNING: Indulging Demon Fan

If we play like we did in last half on Sunday: St.Kilda, Collingwood, Rich, Sydney, Lions, Freo, North, Ess, WCE, and Rich are all beatable and that take us to 11 wins and probably the eight.

What, so we finish in the middle of the pack and pick up another Daniel Bell at 14? This years draft does not run very deep. They think that the top 3 are standouts and you could throw a blanket on the rest of them. For the sake of our future, we need to draft extremly well this year. Don't forget, the new clubs will be allowed alot of concessions in the next two/three drafts! VERY IMPORTANT.

I don't remember Geelong having heaps of years of failure "rebuilding" before they were all of a sudden PREMIERS. At the start of last years season, did any of you think they would become 2007 premiers?

Geelong had the luxury of picking up several 'star's' via the father/son rule, effectively giving them an advantage very similiar to priority picks.

The only time the Ablett brothers got mentioned was when they started to play well. Just because they are pick number 1 doesn't mean they will work in your team.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
