Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

wow, great cheapshot.

i would suggest green thinking of finals at 1-9 is a perfect example of losing focus, hence putting us in a shocking position to win this weekend. but apparently you know everything about me, so perhaps i shouldn't argue.

i think green's statement is pointless and indicative of the frustrations many of us have had over the past few years, that the players get carried away with themselves. subsequently, the go back and say, this time we won't get ahead of ourselves. we've now won one game out of 10 and one of our leadership group is talking about playing finals, when the only object should be winning this weekend.

but please, explain to me how i am stupid, accompanied with a definition of stupid if you will.

u gotta be able to set goals for urself... some like to go with pathedic easily acheivable goals(win one game)... and others like to go with unrealistic but yet still achivable goals...(get in the finals)

obviouslly green thinks this goal can motivate him, LET HIM DO IT!

fair enough?

that's certainly different to the way you phrased it initially, perhaps you should think about that before your next post.

i can understand why he would set goals like this for himself, but i would say that it is setting goals like this is part of the reason for our current debacle. we set ourselves goals of finals and maybe a premiership this year, and for much of the first few weeks seemed to be lacking in our intensity at the contest. now i'm not saying it's because we set finals as our goal, but i don't see what green saying this is hoping to achieve. i can udnerstand why he would want to, but i'd prefer a leader in the group preaching to take every game seriously, because you do not win premierships without taking each team seriously.

After losing 9 in a row (or even just 5-6) we all began to accept that we were going to miss the action in september for the first time in three years... however... is it all over? is there a sniff? a chance? a fairytale?

To slip into eigth spot over the past five years, teams have only needed 12 wins and therefore 10 loses.

We have currently lost nine games so (let me take this chance to remind everyone of the topic heading, clutching at straws) so we have 'one more loss up our sleeve' and as Brad Green pointed out this evening on Channel 10 news, last year we won 11 from 12 games with the only loss being the West Coast. Can we do it again?

Over the next 12 rounds we have:

Collingwood x 2

Richmond

Essendon

Carlton x 2

Brisbane

Kangaroos

Port Adelaide (aami)

Sydney (mo)

Western Bulldogs

Fremantle (subiaco)

At the start of the season, I would have imagened we could have easily beaten the top 6 teams listed any day of the week. We don't play West Coast, the in-form Hawks, Geelong nor St. Kilda in the run home. The biggest challenges will be:

Port - the game is over there, but after starting the season so well they are falling quickly

Syd - who knows where they will end up at seasons end with a recent lose to Essendon suggesting they are no longer such a powerhouse

Bull - lost to carlton this week and have seemed very vunerable lately

Freo - who knows what they'll field, unpredictable and subiaco has not been there fortress this year like in the past

Are we a chance? Can we escape all these games without dropping more then one game? Don't hold your breath? I'm pretty interested to read everyone's thoughts - when you think can we win 11 from 12 it seems impossible, but if you break it down like i have above - perhaps it doesn't seem so out of reach...

my first post was more of attack on ur negative mindset... and the contrast between ur and greens thoughts/ additudes ...

yet i think could be slighty wrong of him to think about finals.... i still think it is a positive +

and id rather see our players thinking positive...

well in all honesty your initial post was more of an attack on my perceived intellectual capacity, but moving on

yes i understand it is a positive approach, but beating adelaide did not come from a 'last-chance' game to play finals, it seemed to come from the players believing thy could beat one team on one day, and that is a positive way to look at the game.

it is not 'pathetic' to only look one week ahead, it is simply the way players must be thinking in order to reach finals. i like his optimism and that he is being positive, however i would just prefer he direct it to a fierce approach on the pies and the one week coming up. as i said, the teams that make the finals attack each individual week. if the kids going into monday are thinking 'if we win this, we can play finals still' i'd wager that we're a sure thing to lose.

however hopefully green's optimism behind closed doors turns to the little things, because if our boys are only thinking of collingwood and knocking them off, we certainly will

What's going on, is Yze_Magic our new media manager?

Complete spin and definitely not worth getting excited about.

If the players need to believe that making the finals is still possible, in order to play well each week, that's fine. They should never give up on that, just like they should never give up on a win.

But don't let that fool you. We haven't won in Adelaide for years, likewise Subiaco. That's already 2 games we are more than likely to lose, so there goes the finals fantasy.

I hate media Mondays <_<

I think its just the clubs way of letting the supporters know that they aren't going to tank the season. By Greeny coming out and saying this, he is telling the fans that the players still want to win just as much as ever. I for one, support this sort of talk, and think there should be more of it. A positive attitude goes along way towards positive results.

Let me note that this topic is not directly in reply of Green's comments. Its not intended to try and get everyone to jump on board but rather explore the possibility realistically.

This is more breaking down the rest of the season to see how possible/impossible are oppurtunities are. Yes winning 11 from 12 is a huge battle, but looking at our remaining 12 rounds - and also, due to the eveness of the competition we may even (with a solid percentage) be able to play finals with 11 wins, 11 loses - can we escape with only dropping one (or two) games?

I do like your positive spin on things, but I think it's a bit utopian at this stage.

How's about we come back in four weeks and assess. We still haven't played four qs of footy and have a long way to go before this thought becomes a realistic possibility. We lose Mon and we can all together forget about it and as Jaded pointed out the wins in Adelaide and Subi have been few and far between adn with two games there, as well as one in Bris and Manuka it's not ideal.

You'd think the 8 at this stage is made up as far as WC, Cats, Adelaide, Hawks (dang), Cwood (hiss), Sydney (even though out should get bk there). Then there's two spots which the dogs, bombers, roos, freo, power and apparently us are all vying for. Mathematically possible yes, but you're relying on a lot of other teams losing and at this stage being five games out it's pretty far fetched

I like the positivity by Green. Reminds us that Melbourne aren't exactly the basket case we were convinced they were after the Eagles game.

But when its all said and done, to win 11 out of 12 is simply unrealistic in this tight AFL season. Games against Freo (subi), Port (AAMI) and Sydney (Manuka) I've already pencilled in as losses...MFC simply don't win those games. We also face a tricky assignment against Essendon at the Dome in round 13 as well as Collingwood twice.

I think 8-14 is a more realistic goal to achieve. It sounds mediocre but it still means we've won more than we've lost from now on, which is a positive step.

And there is where the problem with thinking about finals is - we've all done it on here wioth our post on this subject. As soon as you start thinking about finals you start thinking about 'well, we can beat them, and we can beat them, but that will be a loss... and so on".

Frankly I think it's where the Demons have fallen down a lot, like dropping two games to Carlton last year - 'we can beat them', 'we are the better team'. And then out they come with a second rate effort.

I guess the big question is, would Green go back home or to training thinking 'I want to make finals, so I have to give everything to win this game, now'.

That I'd be ok with.

'Demons determined to never lose again' doesn't sound too bad

So, Green is still hopeful about a mathematical improbability. No worse than fantasising about winning Tattslotto.

Hardly worth the voluminous diatribes it's receiving, or being given more meaning than it deserves, which is fractionally more than zero.

We lost 7 in a row two seasons ago and still made the finals. We lost 9 in a row this year. I don't see why we couldnt win 10 out of 11 and be 7th or 8th by that stage. Hardly impossible. Challenging and doubtful, yes, but hardly impossible, especially if previous Melbourne seasons are anything to go by.

Of those 12 games left, going on last years effort of 11 from 12, i could only see us winning 10, as we have no idea how to play at aami. The one against freo is another loss. Now that's on last years form of 11 from 12.

No look where we are this year. Nope it ain't gonna happen.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
