  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We have young and still inexperienced players and we will lose close ones in the future. But when the close ones happen id like to see more "F##k we nearly did it". And less "Im over this club that gives me nothing". Demonland really only goes the latter.

Although I have hardly done the former, I keep my whining internal or in-house now. It was a lesson when I overheard my sister (swans) tell a friend when she thought I couldnt hear "He barracks for Melbourne, its like he is caring for a disabled brother".  Im sure a few of us may have had similar unasked sympathies thrust upon them over the past 40 or so years.

We will be the envy of other club's supporters soon and they can get [censored].

Being positive and supportive isn't accepting mediocrity.

Depends what you're supporting.

And then there's the classic divide really.

Is the glass half full...or half empty ? It's asked in a manner which suggests either or....but not both.

The truth is something at 50% is both (half full and half empty ) it just depends on your reference point

So it is with adjudicating success and failures. I'd suggest any number of opinions/ views/ standpoints can exist simultaneously with all/none/ some having validity.

It's also very possible that you can be critical and supportive. They're not mutually independent.

If something is working at 80% ability/ efficiency/ results then it's entirely reasonable to want the extra 20 and bemoan fault, especially glaring  and highlight perceived causes..

Anything that hasn't achieved maximum...is mediocre.

And that's not good enough to win Premierships.

I acknowledge you can also commend the rising from 50% to 80 ( or whatever ) ...but thats not ( for mine ) the goal .

The goal is to win...and especially one particular game. Getting there needs skill ,determination , application and design.

I support anything that improves that and also disapprove that which doesn't..

On the subject of Barracking however;  I'm Melbourne , I'm Melbourne through and through ;)

unsure if your post was directed at me Dr as it mentions things from my post, but just to clarify, I have never let my anxiety or frustration out on any player at the games. I usually sit there quietly with radio in ear and cheer the good moments, I use Demonland to vent like many others, but am always supportive.

Not directed at you specifically mate just a general comment. FWIW I don't doubt the love and dedication everyone on here has for the club, we're all Demons tragics. I just hate the constant negativity sometimes - I don't mind negativity in reaction to current events (ie "we played rubbish on the weekend") what I can't stand is the bleating about the past ("we've been crap for my whole life, we'll never win a flag, this club is soft" etc etc)

I also get this site is a good outlet for some people. I can let some odd comments slide but when it's repetitive and the same thing brought up in every single post it's draining to read. I've been negative in the past myself notably during the latter days if Schwab's reign but I feel that I had good reason to be at that time. We've currently got a great young list, a very good young coach and stable admin for the first time in my life. I guess I just don't understand why people would still be negative considering all that instead of just enjoying the ride.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying. But I also accept that success doesn't happen overnight, it is a journey and there will be hiccups on the way. When those hiccups happen it is ok to be disappointed but to me it's disheartening when, for example, supporters start calling for a second year coaches head instead of acknowledging he is on a journey too and has done a pretty decent job to date.

Sadly these days cynicism gets equated with wisdom and answers are pre determined even before the questions are asked. Evidence is cherry picked to suit one's biases.

Blind loyalty can be dangerous and one might be doing a disservice to the club by taking this attitude. Some were more than willing to come in here and talk up how 'great' the players were performing when they knew that they were absolute dross. We all know why no one signed up to Doctor Who's 'new and improved' version of Demonology either.

Criticism is fine should observable results lead you to an undeniable conclusion. It's why most of us on the board came out against Neeld by the time of 148

However, the stuff with Goody on the thread mentioned earlier has been cringeworthy and is more reflective of 1980's Richmond than the club we want to be. I think that some of the usual suspects in that thread pot Goody for their own ego. In their own minds, they see themselves as the last honest truth tellers when they are more Randy Quaid from the Major League movies.

I think that is true, but we have tended to wave away all criticism from sane sources because of the extremism of a few posters that I literally don’t see anymore (ignored).

The beauty is in the grey and Goodwin is a smart and talented footy person with good relationship building skills. He has struggled maturing a team whose expectations jumped because of the level of talent that has been flooded into the club and the way the players have embraced the contested footy and aggressive ball movement.

If we had split the games we lost by less than 10 points. We would be 15 and 6 looking at being a win away from a home prelim...

I didn’t expect that in year two of Goodwin.

And I also didn’t expect that Hawthorn result and said as much at the time...

What a strange thread. The simple fact is everyone on here is a fanatic who have stayed thick through a hell of a lot of thin. Why on the eve of our best results in well over a decade would fanatics not support the Dees?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
